Glennon Talks About Sharing NFC South Lead

October 1st, 2014

mike glennon 1001Dare to dream, Bucs fans. Your official “quarterback of the future” is.

Bucs starting gunslinger Mike Glennon has had his eye on the NFC South standings.

Yes, the Panthers and Falcons are leading the division with 2-2 records. Carolina is reeling after two losses and has the Bears at home. Atlanta heads to a hot Giants team. The Bucs head to New Orleans to face the Saints, who join the Bucs at 1-3.

By 4 p.m. on Sunday, in four short days, the Tampa Bay area could be talking playoffs.

“Whoever wins our game could possibly be tied for first in the division,” Glennon said this afternoon at One Buc Palace. “It’s wide open.”

Glennon is correct. But there a massive roadblock in front of the Bucs. The Saints haven’t lost a home game with Sean Payton as head coach since some guy name Josh Freeman won there to close the 2010 campaign.

But Joe will dare to dream this afternoon. Wouldn’t it be something if the Bucs found themselves 2-3 and in a three-way tie for first.

Lovie Smith said on his radio show this week that he’s a big believer in “momentum.” That sure would qualify in a big way.

Hold on. I’ll say it first. Brees will shred the secondary. Graham will catch 200 passes. Glennon can’t take the pressure and etc. etc. etc.

  2. BucFan20 Says:

    Any given Sunday!

  3. robert9 Says:

we aint winning the division. Glennon may light it up, but Brees will do the same. this will come down to which defense can come up with a couple turnovers

  4. Kingpin1 Says:

Bojim! You sure are a ray of sunlight! Dude you might berightbut come on man!! Have a positive attitude for at least this week I think we deserve it.

  5. Dan the Bucs bigst fan Says:

Joe I am proud of you reversing yourself on MG. I left the site for the better part of a year because I just could not understand why anyone as so against a rookie who threw 19-9 and seemed very accurate with the ball. Im happy to be back on the site daily and appreciate that you are ma enough to admit you wrong. Lets g beat the Saints.

  6. Biff Barker Says:

Gruden’s recent comments about the T2 were damning.

Gruden knows how to attack the T2 inherent weaknesses.

Payton and Gruden are offensive soulmates.

The Bucs better figure out a way to sustain drives and score points to have any shot at winning.

  7. Tackleblockwin Says:

We must get the run game going to win this week. I think Glennon will do fine, but we need the run game too.

  8. BlakeJohnson Says:

Yeah as much as I want us to get a win, Unless we figure out a way to limit Jimmy Graham from totally destroying us, it ain’t gonna happen. We’re gonna have to get at least 2 turnovers, capitalize on them, and dominate time of possession to have a shot at this game. But nothing’s impossible with MG8 at the helm! lol Lets Go Bucs!

  9. Architek Says:

The sky is the limit because this division is mediocre – really the NFL is full of parody so the Bucs really need to capitalize on this game.

  10. Buc1987 Says:

@Kingpin…BoJim was in the live thread on Sunday prematurely predicting a Bucs loss near the end of the game…Actually said “since we lost this game today”. Before we lost.

So take ’em how you wanna.

@MGM …Just think about it for a second. All this week Mikey is getting 1st team reps. Just like last week. It’s very important for this kid to get 1st team reps with so many new players. He should have no problem with hitting Vincent though as long as he doesn’t drop it too often.

I won’t predict one victory this whole season and probably for awhile. Because I think right now the Bucs are like Forrest Gump said. You never know what you’re gonna get.

Any given Sunday baby. I believe. Go Bucs!

  11. Buddhaboy Says:

Maybe lovie will come up with a fansy defensive scheme that the saints are thinking they will. or he will continue to see if his guys “get better” in his scheme.

That really is it, what it comes down to Sunday. Look for stills and cooks to have big days.

  12. Buc1987 Says:

@BlakeJohnson…maybe we need to play Schiano-ball for the first quarter and unleash Goldson on Graham….HARD! Let the Glazers pay the fine.

  13. ShutTheBucUp Says:

If he walks into that dome and leads the Bucs to a victory, I shall dub him Mike “The Golden Giraffe” GLEGEND. But I have a sinking feeling that I’ll be heavily drinking by 4pm.

  14. Buc1987 Says:

Let Graham know that if he wants to get some in the middle then it’s going to hurt. Take the 15 yrd penalties flags. They’re going to score anyways. Just keep hitting him… and Brees too. Graham can’t do much if Brees is lying on the ground.

Yep I’m sick. Bring on the Aint’s.

  15. Jeagan1999 Says:

I’m just happy that the Bucs are playing competitive football now, after the disastrous start we got off to. IF…we can beat New Orleans and Baltimore….and those are both BIG “IF”s”…and go into the bye at 3-3…THEN I will start entertaining the idea that we may be able to win the division and go to the playoffs! Right now I just want the defense to get healthy, the offensive line to continue to gel, Our WR’s to get over their “dropsies”, and MG8 to continue to show everyone that HE should have been the starter from day 1!
    #MGM!!!!!!

    Unleash the Ginger Cannon!

  17. Brian D. Says:

    We got this! Statement time!

  18. SAMCRO Says:

Wait a minute. Wasn’t it not more than 4 days ago, a lot of the local media claimed we were doomed, and a winning record was completely out of our grasp at 0-3? Bunch of Chicken Littles’s. This is why I think the local media is this teams own worst enemy. The media is a big reason why the stadium doesn’t sell out. With all the negativity coming from the local media constantly, it’s no wonder why casual Buc fans give up on going to the games based on what they hear, and read.

I mean who wants to go to a game when the local media keeps telling you your team sucks every single day? Don’t believe me? Walk up to a TB resident and ask them what they think of the Bucs, and most, except for the really informed fans, will echo exactly what they have heard, or read from our local media, and it’s not good. I’m not suggesting we sugarcoat everything but the constant beratement and negativity from the radio and print media is not conducive to building a much needed 12th man.

I go to every game, and the most common theme I’m really beginning to notice is the negative attitude a lot of our fans have, even before the game is played. People begin booing almost before the first play. Hell, the opposing team fans really don’t have to say anything, we’re harder on ourselves more than they are. I’ve never seen so many Buc fans behave like this, even when we went through all those consecutive double digit losses for ten years. Between fantasy football and the negative press, it is creating a subculture of impatient know it all fans, and it’s not good.

  19. WalkdaPlank Says:

Technically, if Atlanta and Carolina lose and the Bucs win, the Dixie Chicks and Kitties have tiebreaker rights over the Bucs. 🙁

  20. Kingpin1 Says:

It will be very difficult to go to New Orleans and win no matter how good you are. So this would be HUGE if we come out with a win and would turn the season around. Don’t know about everyone else but for this week and maybe only this week I’m believing we got a shot at the div. Gotta Believe!!

  21. Eric Says:

    Love Glennon’s attitude.

  22. MR. T Says:

    Jeagan1999

Have to agree, if we can win the next 2 games then we can speculate seriously about winning the division. The Steelers mistakes certainly helped us to win on Sun. but you can’t count on that in the future, we’ve got to play a lot better especially in the secondary.

  23. buccanAy Says:

@SAMCRO You are exactly right, and I’ve been saying the same thing for awhile…..local media don’t seem happy unless the Bucs are floundering, and seem to go out of their way to portray them in negative light. Much of the vitriol for Glennon comes from local yacks. Heard Gary Shelton was retiring and thought..the door cant hit his fat ass fast enough. By far, worst local sports media I’ve ever encountered.

As to the game…hopefully, Lovie is on the phone to buds Marinelli and Kiffin, to find out what they did to stop Brees. I don’t think the ‘Boys have more talent on D than we do.

  24. Milenko Says:

When is the last time we won in Pittsburg?

  25. Kevin#1 Says:

If Josh Freeman could do it…Mike Glennon can do it. Louis Murphy has got to play like he did coming back last week and the team cannot afford any of VDrops usual butterfingers…

  26. Brandon Says:

As the premier and founding member of the Mike Glennon Doesn’t Have What it Takes Club… the MGDHWITC… I too love Glennon’s attitude and have never questioned his work ethic. His feet are definitely improved in the pocket and in Sunday’s second half he showed more movement and toughness in the pocket than he showed all of last season. He also took some good shots on intermediate passes and generally looked like a competent QB capable of leading a franchise. That was one half… I hope this is the week that he proves me wrong and goes and dissects the Saints on the road. I just hope we don’t fall victim like the Redskins by putting all of our eggs (and hope) in one basket (or backup).

  27. Buccfan37 Says:

Architek… the NFL is full of parody. Don’t you mean parity? Parody is your laughable attempt at criticism of Glennon.

  28. Barry Says:

Very simple keys to the game for the Bucs. 1) front 4 pressure all game. 2) 20 plus carries for Martin for over 100 and Bucs win. Listen here, these ain’t your daddy’s Saints. You can run and throw on NO defense, and you can pressure their OL. Bucs get penetration all game, they win. Don’t fear the Dome.

I agree 100% accept I like Shelton. I don’t think he’s a d*ck like Jones is. Shelton is not nearly as harsh as Stroud and Jones.

  30. SausageKingOfChicago Says:

I want my Bucs to win, but let’s be realistic. Pittsburgh had a easy TD drop which would have put the game away. Plus they gave us another chance with a horrible punt. We should be 0-4. The Saints always win at home, so we will be 1-4 (and should be 0-5).

  31. Buc1987 Says:

SausageKing…mmm the Bucs had some drops too in that game.

  32. Buc4life Says:

Doesn’t matter what the Steelers did or didn’t do. The fact is the clock hit 0 Bucs had the lead..Bucs win. And we can win this Sunday..Any team can win and the Saint’s are garbage this season…Go Bucs
