Chucky Will Not Marry Derek Carr

October 1st, 2014
"You have to be s(p)itting me Mark Davis! You actually want me to work with Derek Carr? Jimminy Christmas, take your sorry arse team elsewhere, man!'

“You have to be s(p)itting me, Mark Davis! You actually want me to work with Derek Carr? Jiminy Christmas, take your sorry ass team elsewhere, man! Tirico would be a better quarterback!”

Periodically, Joe likes to share what is going on in the world of Chucky. You know, the guy who doesn’t get near the praise he should for bringing home the lone Super Bowl championship for the Bucs.

And frankly, the Bucs really haven’t been worth a squat since he was jettisoned that fateful Friday evening in January 2009.

So now that the Raiders are without a head coach, having fired Dennis Allen, Raiders owner Mark Davis has not hidden the fact he is smitten with Chucky to take over the Raiders. The thought of Chucky captaining Oakland brought a hearty laugh from the “Custodian of Canton,” eye-RAH! Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune.

Yeah, that last line makes all the sense in the world. Quick: name a young quarterback Chucky developed. Um… eeerrr… well… um… eeerr… there isn’t one. Chucky hates young quarterbacks. He would much rather work with a veteran like Rich Gannon or Brad Johnson.

Joe is confident Chucky, if he takes the Raiders gig (unlikely), he would demand — and receive — full and total control. So here the Raiders are with a boatload of cash and a high draft pick invested in Carr, and they would have Chucky toss him overboard?

If anything, Chucky would want his brother, David Carr.

Dennis miller says mnf was the best gig he ever had. This is coming from a guy who spent years doing a 5 min skit on SNL (weekend update). I doubt gruden will go back to the 18 hour grind when he works like 5 hours a week and gets paid well to do so.

Davis should call schiano, lol that’s funny. Or better yet Jim leavitts.

  2. phil Says:

First I just want to say Jon Gruden walks on water. He is the best coach ever in the history of the Buccaneers and we never should have fired him. After coaching this team to a Super Bowl he should have been allowed to stay as long as he wanted. But as for Oakland I think they will offer him big money and Oakland has some good young players plus they are suppose to be in very good cap space next year plus have very high draft picks. Who knows Tom Brady may be available in the free agent market.

  3. Jim Walker Says:

If what an ex-employee told me is true as to why Gruden was fired he will never coach again.

  4. Buc1987 Says:

lol Phil…I was with ya up until that last one.

    Do share…

  6. Buc1987 Says:

Dungy and Gruden are a part of my heart, forever. The both of them will always walk on water to me.

You will never see me type a bad word about them on here.

Same goes for Monte and just about every player on the the team from the glory years…

and Bonzai no…that does not include Lovie Smith. lol

  7. Aceofaerospace Says:

Jim Walker, your statement carrys as much water as saying, “If what Santa Clause says is true, John Gruden will never coach again.” Name your source, state your claim, or shut up. Unfounded rumors by unnamed sources is attention seeking BS at the expense if our former beloved coach.

  8. DB55 Says:

    Buc1987

That’s just a tease. What did he do? Did it involve a cheerleader, a player wife?

  9. Aceofaerospace Says:

I guess I should have said, “beloved, former coach”. Not “former beloved coach”.

  10. Biff Barker Says:

Chucky benched the mouth/ego known as Keyshawn.

Then paid him to stay home on the couch… during the season… for good.

    I’m forever grateful.

  11. Bucs Fan Since '76 Says:

I think Gruden remains in the booth for the rest of his career, buuuuuuuuuut, should he get the itch to coach again, I’d like to recommend a certain college job a couple hours north of here. Cool colors, great mascot, huge crowds. And I think there may be an opening very, very, soon. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!

  12. John Herb Says:

Sorry guys. Chucky is NOT the great and powerful oz everyone thinks he is. He was a great coach for getting the most out of his players but all he did here was to take Dungys date to the prom. After the glorious Super Bowl he drove our team into the dirt by ousting key players and destroying morale. He motivated a great team to a win in the playoffs and Super Bowl but that doesnt make him walk on water. The 2002 Bucks are the team Father Dungy built. Chucky was just right place right time.

  13. Buc1987 Says:

DB55 ….Jim Walker’s got the dirt not me.

My cousin played for the SB champs under Gruden and says he’s one of the most fake people he’s ever been around. I’ve heard a few other things too, but nothing TMZ style like Jim Walker has on him.

    Come on Jimbo…spill the beans.

  14. al121976 Says:

Hey john herb, half of that roster was not Dungy’s. also, he did what Dungy didnt with the Bucs, give him Gruden credit

“The 2002 Bucks are the team Father Dungy built. Chucky was just right place right time.”

You do realize how dumb you look right? Not just the word “Bucks” I know that’s spell check and all.

Jon Gruden brought in… what was it Joe? 22 new players in his first season as the Bucs HC.

How can it possibly be Dungy’s team when there were so many new players on the roster that season?

That question is for all the rest of you clowns as well, that think it was Dungy’s team that Gruden won the SB with.

  16. Buc1987 Says:

al121976…don’t worry about that son. lol

I’m on it like Blue Bonnet.

  17. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

In addition to the facts laid out by ’87, Gruden faced his former team in the SB. So, using J. Herb’s logic, Callahan got to the SB with Gruden’s team.

So, no matter how you slice, he had a major impact on two Super Bowl teams. So much, that he even knew their playcalls. That’s how little the Raiders changed after he left.

  18. Steady Mobbin Says:

“The 2002 Bucks are the team Father Dungy built.”

Tony Dungy didn’t draft Ray Allen, Sam Cassell, or Michael Redd. It was Wyche’s team.

  19. AnotherJ Says:

I like, and respect Gruden as Coach, but He’s not good at developing young talent on the offense, not just the young Quarterbacks.

How many Running backs, tight Ends, or Receivers did he ever develop? Remember how he would use to run Cadillac Williams into the ground, Or Throw every pass at Michael Clayon! Gruden never developed young players, He drafted poorly (Gaines Adams, Clayon, He picked Dexter ahead of DeSean Jackson, He picked Gaines Adams over Adrian Peterson, He didn’t move up to grab Megatron! Remember the Bucs had a chance to trade up that year…
All of his best players were vets on the back end of their careers.
He was very good at coaching Vets!

His offense consisted of 5 yard out routes, and handing the ball off…

Bruce Allen & Gruden left us in salary cap pergatory too, In my opinion he wasn’t all that great!

  20. Eric Says:

Can’t fathom Chucky coming back to coach the raiders.

But it would make the league a little more fun if he did.

I miss the thermonuclear sideline meltdowns. And the hilarious press conferences. My favorite was the reporter from Atlanta and he kept asking him “who are you again”.

    And the winning too.

  21. Queezie Says:

@ bucs 1987 Name the 22 players and the impact that they had on the team. If they weren’t named Sapp, Ronde, Lynch, or Brooks it doesn’t matter. The defense set records for turnovers and points scored. So the quantity of acquisitions isn’t nearly as important as the role the players played.

  22. Buc1987 Says:

AnotherJ..yeah you’re right screw him. Who needs that SB? I mean look how he left our team and all. The way he left our team such a mess. I’d give back that SB that he won for us if I had known they way he was going to leave us.

OF COURSE THAT’S ALL PURE SARCASM!

SMDH….some of you people didn’t deserve that SB. That’s quite obvious!

  23. Buc1987 Says:

Queezie…I won’t have to. I’m sure there is MORE than enough bloggers that can name them for you. I don’t have the time to look them up. If I do get the time I will. I can name a couple of key ones off the top of my head that the Buc’s don’t do much that season without.

    Keenan McCardell
    Joe Jurvicious

  24. Buc1987 Says:

22 might be a low number too. I think it’s higher. I have to check. I’m sure someone knows the number.

  25. Buc1987 Says:

    Michael Pittman
    McCardell
    Joe J
Tupa was the new punter I think…

  26. Buc1987 Says:

I know one thing. I was living in NC at the time and when I saw Gruden picking up all those players in the off-season. I got Sunday NFL Ticket for the first time. It was about $300.00 back then too and I lived on a waiter’s salary.

That was the reason why I NFL ticket prior to that season. I saw all the additions to the team and KNEW they were going to the SB that season. I knew it. I’m sure some of us felt it too.

  27. Buc1987 Says:

Sorry to ramble on. It’s what I do.

If Dungy was the coach PRIOR to that season how many of you would have thought we might go to the Super Bowl that year?

And be honest with yourselves. Don’t lie.

When they got Gruden MANY fans were thinking Super Bowl.

With Dungy before the season started most of us would have NEVER expected such things. We would have expected to lose in the playoffs again. AND you all know it.

Buc1987, SMDH @ You… Try not to be such a pompous moron!

You’re no better than anyone else. We all have an opinion!
I’m thankful we won a SB just like everyone else.
I never said nothing about giving the trophy back.

  29. Bobby M. Says:

John Herb nailed it…..Gruden did what Dungy couldn’t do which was get the offense to score. Not to mention Gruden’s Raiders that he “built” were also in the Super Bowl.

Folks also forget after the Super Bowl the Bucs had the cheapest payroll for the following 5 years yet we remained division contenders……Take away good coaching and you have a decade of what we’ve seen no matter how much money has been spent.

  30. JMN Says:

A little early for the Gruden coaching calls. Getting to be like the stores putting their Christmas decorations out in August.

  31. Hawk Says:

I find it interesting that the people who are saying, “Gruden just took Dungy’s team to the Super Bowl”, actually think they are ‘defending’ Dungy. *IF* it were true, that the Super Bowl team was the exact same roster as Dungy’s, then that would be saying Dungy is a bad coach. Same players, different result. In fact, Dungy’s teams got progressively worse each of his last three years. If you want to laud accolades on Dungy, fine, just don’t embarrass him by saying it was ‘his’ team that went without him.

  32. BucBob1 Says:

Gruden, and Obama, are very much alike.

Both have the same birth sign, Leo

Grudens playbook, very thick and complicated (players didn’t like it)

Obama Care bill, very thick and complicated (American people didn’t like it)

Both are very charismatic speakers. (Good bullspiters)

In the end, the American people, and the players, grew tired of them both.

  33. OAR Says:

    Queezie
If it were Dungy’s team…..how come Dungy couldn’t get it done with his own team. Or let me ask you this then, do you think Steve Mariucci or Marvin Lewis (the two coaches that were on McKay’s list for head coach) would have gotten it done with “Dungy’s” team? HELL NO! Thank goodness Mr Glazer said FU to McKay and got the Gruden deal done, behind his back!

  34. OAR Says:

Well let’s see on offense there was Pittman, Jurvious, McCardell, Dilger, Dudley, Charles Lee, Travis Stephens, Battaglia, R. Johnson, D. Barnes, Goodspeed, Cornell Green, Kerry Jenkins, R. Oben, M. Walker, Lomas Brown, and Ryan Benjamin & Tom Tupa(well special teams).
And on defense was Ryan Nece, Jermaine Phillips, J. Golden, R. Warner, T. Wansley, Greg Spires, Corey Smith, D. Claybrooks, and Buck Gurley.

  35. OAR Says:

Truth be told our defense was better in 1999 and 2001. Dungy should have had multiple rings with “his” team.

  36. Not Jim Walker Says:

I guess Jim isn’t going to tell. I hate teases

  37. Dubblez83 Says:

Jeff Garcia can’t wait for this deal to happen!

  38. Kent K Says:

Chucky has no eye for or patience for young players. The only player he ever drafted that was any good was Janakowski. Bad talent evaluater and teacher PERIOD!!!

  39. Jim Walker Says:

All I will say is that the reason Gruden was fired had nothing to do with coaching, and that he will never coach again. If he ever coaches anywhere ever again than I was lied too, and I will spill the beans since there is no point in keeping a secret then. My source was a janitor at One Buc in 2009.

  40. OAR Says:

Bad talent evaluater and teacher PERIOD!!!……….with the most Buccaneer wins and a Super Bowl Ring!!!!

  41. OAR Says:

    Janitor?
Oh really? You guys think I’m just some untouchable peasant? Serf? Peon? Well, maybe so. But following a broom around after $hi+heads like you for the last 8 years, I’ve learned a couple of things. I look through your letters. I look through your lockers. I listen to your conversations, you don’t know that but I do. I am the eyes and ears of this institution, my friends……….By the way, that clock’s 20 minutes fast.

  42. brett Says:

Chucky got them over the hump. That may have never happened with Dungy, because Dungy did not hold the offense accountable. That being said, Chucky only drafted one pro-bowler in all of his years here (Davin Joseph) and many of his former players HATE him (ask Shaun King, Warren Sapp, etc.). Here is his legacy: he got the Bucs over the hump and then presided over the slow decline of the team.

  43. Buccfan37 Says:

Gruden was an OK coach, he brought in offensive talent that led to the Super Bowl win. He was obviously familiar with the Raider team. That knowledge helped to win the big game. I don’t think he will coach again. Much like Dungy, they both like the camera on them exclusively.

  44. Mr. Mudge Says:

Hey Bucbob, stick to football. I don’t want to know your opinion of Obamacare.

  45. Jim Walker Says:

Thanks for the insults OAR. I have my source and I believe him. I am not lying. If I am wrong I am wrong, but there is no need for the personal insults.

  46. Jim Walker Says:

I just realized the Breakfast Club reference….LMAO.

  47. Mr. Mudge Says:

Spill the beans dude. If you have some info, we all wanna know.

  48. Jim Walker Says:

If Chucky ever gets hired as a coach I will tell.

  49. Mr. Mudge Says:

    Lame.

  50. ddneast Says:

Hey Jim Walker, my moms best friend know the guy who walks the Glazers dof and he knows the real reason why Gruden was fired.
He told me Gruden was the second gunman on the grassy knoll and the a Glazers found out.
I mean really, who post something like that.
Listen to what I believe Mark Twain said:
“Better to not say something and let people think you are a fool, than to speak and confirm their beliefs.”
Gruden has been out of football for five years and is making huge wheelbarrows full of money and making Hooters commercials with pretty girls.
Why go back to making less money, work harder and hang around with naked guys.
Now an ex friend of yours told me the last part would appeal to you…do you get my point now.

  51. Buc1987 Says:

    “Pompous moron”

    Name calling?

Your post gave no indication as to whether or not winning the SB was all worth it. You were the one that said “In my opinion he wasn’t all that great!”after naming all the bad things he did for our team. Like he was nothing but bad for our team.

Did you or did you not?

It’s your opinion yep….but opinions are like..

Pompous moron….I LOVE the pompous part. You got that right buddy, but I’m not the moron that thinks Gruden “wasn’t all that great”.

And another thing the Raiders and Bucs have both sucked since Jon left.

Read my other posts. Jon Gruden and Tony Dungy are a piece of my heart buddy. Sorry to upset you, but I take stuff like “wasn’t all that great” personal, whether it’s opinion or not.

Man it’s been awhile since I ruffled some feathers around here. I got Bonzai after me last week. That was a hoot.

  52. Buc1987 Says:

  53. ddneast Says:

  54. Buc1987 Says:

ddneast…he was quoting the movie The Breakfast Club with the “janitor” reference.

I don’t think we’re going to get it out of him.

  55. Warren Says:

Jim Walker – suggestion. Make a fake email address and post it here. Then anyone who emails you gets the rumor in their inbox. If you post it here it will be deleted anyway. I probably won’t put much stock in it but I have to admit I am as curious as everyone else here..lol

  56. BucBob1 Says:

    @ Mr Mudge
I will post what ever I want. If you don’t like it TOO BAD!!!

  57. another J Says:

  59. Buc1987 Says:

    another J …too late.

  60. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Jon Gruden WAS NOT a good coach.

Dungy turned this team around. He may not have made certain draft picks, but he was the one who developed the players and the system. He changed everything about this team.

Gruden rode Tony’s system to the bowl game, and becausse the Raiders were using his system, he won with defense. Tony Dungy’s defense.

Jon Gruden was all excitement his first year, but immediately after things started going downhill. Lying to players, giving his word without keeping it and an inability to develop a young QB OR consistently work with a veteran quarterback…and his inability to have back-to-back winning seasons until his last year…and his excessively rude behavior…it all combined to make him a horrible coach.

That said, I love him on TV.

  61. Mr Magoo Says:

I think Gruden will coach again and that it will be with the Dallas Cowboys. And he will win a Super Bowl with Tony Romo at the helm. I also thank him for ours. It is to our shame that Tampa Bay fans (and I use that term loosely) continue to denigrate his accomplishment by calling them Dungy’s team. There are a lot of ingrates living in Central Florida. Pathetic excuses for fans. Pay attention to Seattle or Kansas City some time and you will see how real fans act. If I owned the Rays I’d move them out of Tampa Bay first chance I got after seeing how people here treat our players and voaches.

  62. Hawk Says:

Tony inherited Wyche’s team on the rise (Sam’s last year was the first single digit losing season in over a decade). Sam’s last three years, the team improved each year. Dungy’s last three years, the team got worse each year. And Sam did it with CULVERHOUSE.
Stats can make anyone look good/bad.

  63. Buc1987 Says:

@Bonzai…I challenge you to wikipedia Jon Gruden and find out exactly what the Raiders were before Jon Gruden arrived.

You won’t look so I’ll tell you in one word. Garbage.

That’s all folks. Nothing more to see here.

  64. Buc1987 Says:

Yes your right. That’s why our team has been SOOO good since Gruden left.
I guess you were blind to the offensive improvement during that SB season. It wasn’t much more than Dungy’s but it was a helluva lot better than anything Dungy put out there on the offensive side of the team..PERIOD!

Sapp said so too in his HOF speech for a reason. Gruden was a BIG part in this team winning a SB and to me anything afterwards is moot.

AS IT SHOULD BE WITH YOU TOO BONZAI. The guy that calls me bandwagon and dismisses Gruden as blah, they could have done it without him. How long did you and I wait to see that trophy being raised?

Welp it’s your opinion I guess.

I guess some fans remember things differently. From what I could tell Dungy was NEVER going to get the Bucs to the SB and all that DEFENSE would have been for not as they aged away. That’s my take. I guess you remember it differently.

  65. Grizim2222 E. Buffalo Says:

For all of Gruden’s offensive genuis, the vast majoirty of games were won with defense. Gruden’s offense cracked the tope 20 in total offense once in 7 years. That year the Bucs were ranked 15. The year the bucs won the Superbowl the Bucs defense had almost scored as many points as the offense. I read a comment that highlighted the players that gruden brought in. Lol. Last time I checked Gruden didn’t coach defense. Monty Kiffin deserves more credit for that Superbowl than Gruden. I find it amazing that most Buc fans that visit this website go on and on about the ineptness of our offense under Raheem, and Schiano and rightlyfully so. But those some of those same poeple have this Gruden nastalgia. Has anyone forgot how he couldn’t develope players and was a terrible gametime play caller. Great coaches develop talent. Gruden never did that. Most time the Bucs had one receiver and 3 tights in, Or was in the I. Run up the middle run up the middle, oh 3 and long let brad johnson or Jeff garcia throw a duck downfield. If on Gruden is a great coach then. Russell Wilson is an Elite QB. Neither is true.

  66. Buc1987 Says:

Grizim2222 E. Buffalo…prior to the SB season. If Dungy was the coach, how confident would you have been that the Bucs could make it to the SB that season?

Because to me not very. Sure we would have made it into the playoffs again and died like always. Then year after year the defense gets older and older.

2nd question : Prior to the SB season after the Bucs signed Gruden how confident were you that the Bucs could make it to the SB that season?

  67. Buc1987 Says:

The 2000 Raiders had the No.1 Rushing team, with the 15th passing attack. In 3 years Gruden took a 4-12 team to 12-4 and the AFC Championship game where he lost to the Superbowl champions, and probably one of the best defenses in history, the Baltimore Ravens. Never mind the tuck rule game against Pat’s who went onto the SB that season.

Under Gruden the Bucs posted a playoff per-game point differential of 23 points per game in victory, tied with the 1992 Dallas Cowboys for the highest average playoff margin of victory by a Super Bowl winner in the free agency era.

“My first impression was, ‘Who the hell is this man that we just spent $8 million and four draft picks for?’ ” Sapp said. “I left the club one night. … I wanted to see if this myth was true about him going to work at 3:17 in the morning. I was sleeping in his parking spot, and I wake up to the horn blasting. I put the car in reverse and rolled down my window. He said, ‘What the hell?’ I said, ‘I just wanted to see if the legend was true,’ and drove off.”

Gruden made two bold pronouncements within a few weeks of arriving in Tampa Bay. “He said we’re going to win a Super Bowl now.”

And by the way last time I checked adding 25 new players is pretty much 1/2 the team.

  68. Grizim2222 E. Buffalo Says:

If Tony Dungy would’ve been able to aquire a a OC like Norv Tuner or Bruce Arians…Very confident. The 02′ Bucs didn’t need a whole lot of help on offense to win that year. That’s just how good they were. But to your 2nd point the defense did age after the superbowl but if we’d had a decent offense not a prolific one, a Decent offense, the Bucs might have repeated. Gruden was brought to Tampa to develope a championship level offense.
He never acheived that goal. and didn’t even come close. Greg Olsen coud’ve won with that Defense.

  70. Buc1987 Says:

Yes DB55…and oddly enough. I always thought the 99 D was better than the SB Champs D.

Grizim2222 E. Buffalo…SIX…6 seasons. That’s how long Dungy had to put an offense out there as good as “Greg Olsens” and failed.

Just answer the 2 questions honestly.

Can either of you answer the questions honestly? Can anyone?

  71. Grizim2222 E. Buffalo Says:

22 players ok. How many of them were impact players on offense? What talent did he draft and Coach up? Gruden also did a poor job of utilizing the talent that he did have. Pittman was a far far better receiver than he was a taking a hand off. Had poor vision. How many screen passes did Pittman get? You know the answer to that, Gruden didn’t draft Sapp, Brooks, Barber, Kelly, Lynch, Mcfarland, KeyShawn, Alstott, he brought in washed up players like Garner, Tim Brown, Drafted players like Dexter Jackson {WR} not FS, Micheal Clayton. I’ll give you that he built quite an impressive offense in Oakland but sir that did not happen by a long shot in Tampa. You know and everyone that ever watch that “little engine that could” called an offense that he put on the field year after year knows it. That’s what got him fired and he should’ve been.

  72. Buc1987 Says:

1st Question: If Dungy was the coach prior to the SB season, how confident would you have been that the Bucs could make it to the SB that coming season?

2nd Question : Prior to the SB season after the Bucs signed Gruden how confident were you that the Bucs could make it to the SB that season?

  73. Buc1987 Says:

That’s 22 players that could not cut the mustard under Dungy. McCardell, Joe J,and Pittman were big additions to the team.

Not to mention the new LS my cousin Ryan Benjamin. lol

3rd question : How long did this team and it’s great defense have to win a SB under Dungy before it was too late?

Because like I said I think their best D was in 99.

    @DB55 Very true.

1987 has a point. Tony did have 6 seasons to get the offense going in the right direction. My question to you is. Why did Dungy have so much trouble getting an Talented OC? What offensive Guru wouldn’t jump at the chance to build an offense with an outstanding young {at the time} defense? Something about that just doesn’t seem right.

Not sure if better coach or if he was just aggressive enough to get over the hump. As for the SB it wasn’t even fair he had the best D in the league and the opponents playbook, terminology and tendencies. didn’t dungy get to the SB the following year with Lovie?

  76. Buc1987 Says:

Look all I know is like I said earlier in the thread. I lived in NC at the time Gruden got hired. I went to sports bars a lot to see the Bucs before he got hired.

I saw them picking up player after player. Which motivated me to shell out $300.00 for Sunday NFL Ticket. It was expensive back then. I told my wife. I’m not missing a second of this honey, Gruden’s putting a together a team down there. I think were going to the SB. I knew it, because of Gruden, not despite him.

I had to fight with her tooth and nail to get that damn package.

  77. DB55 Says:

“When the Bucs won Super Bowl XXXVII in Gruden’s first season in Tampa Bay, he credited Dungy for providing him with many of the pieces to a world championship team.”

  78. Buc1987 Says:

    DB55…honestly on 1?

Come on. Your 90% sure after getting bounced out of the playoffs for 3 years in a row and get manhandled in Philly over and over again that Dungy could have taken the Bucs to the SB?

    Honestly?

  79. Buc1987 Says:

DB%%..of course he was going to give credit to Tony. No need to post it I don’t forget a damn thing about the day I waited 15 years see.

  80. Grizim2222 E. Buffalo Says:

    @1987
You say “How long did this team and it’s great defense have to win a SB under Dungy before it was too late?” Who knows? You say that with the assumption that Tony wouldn’t have retooled and continued to maintain outstanding defenses. That guy in Pittsburg has had quite a run don’t you think? If you wanna say Tony never built a good offense fine. But neither did Gruden. Gruden’s offense was “good enough” to win in 02’. that defense was good enough to win almost every year he was there. But the offense kept getting worse. Mainly because of the points I made. Lethargic and predictable. No clue how to develop talent.

  81. Grizim2222 E. Buffalo Says:

Correct me if I’m wrong but I could’ve sworn that the only 2 playoff games we won under Gruden were on the way to the SB in 02′. I remember getting beat by the Redskins @ home and the Giants @home

  82. Grizim2222 E. Buffalo Says:

I hope he doesn’t go to OAK an Screw up Derek Carr like he did Simms…

  83. Buc1987 Says:

Look I love the guy. My cousin hates his guts, but he played for him. We have fights about it all the time. Well him, me and his dad.

Tony means a helluva lot to me too man, but I’m realistic about what was going on. He tried. He tried a lot. It was time for him to go. I hated every friggin day of it too until they signed a new coach.

I was one of the ones that was cursing them over bungling the Parcells thing and for getting rid of Dungy with no lock in mind. I hated the move. Until I saw who they got.

  84. Buc1987 Says:

    Grizim2222 E. Buffalo…who knows?

Well Sapp(my all time favorite Buc) was declining after the SB and shipped off to Oakland not too long after retired. His skills were declining and it showed.

Lynch….well I don’t think his skills declined all that much, but he did retire soon after playing for the Broncos.

Simeon got hurt. Brooks was on the decline. Barber well we all know that story.

My point is after they won the SB most of their careers declined which tells me Dungy didn’t have much longer.

  85. Buc1987 Says:

If Gruden inherited Dungy’s 99 team and started tinkering. Yah there might have been 2 SB’s. I don’t know that’s just me being silly.

  86. DB55 Says:

    Buc

I was a total homer back then. My “dress up” clothes consisted of a red 99 sapp jersey, a black 55 authentic brooks jersey and a black 99 manny fresh jersey. My boys were going to win every game. I hope we use the black jerseys as our throwbacks.

  87. Grizim2222 E. Buffalo Says:

To be honest I liked John Gruden. I got fed up with the fact that our offense never looked anywhere close to what we saw under his tenure in OAK. That offense was open, creative, and UNpredictable. Tony could’ve coached this team for 15 yrs and won 3 or 4 times had the OWNERS did their job and got hime a real OC.

    Hoptep Buc fans…

  88. DB55 Says:

Totally possible – if he met the raiders again. Ha I’m just fkn with u.

  89. Grizim2222 E. Buffalo Says:

    Hotep… D@mn spell check!

  90. Buc1987 Says:

My final comment on this. I’m willing to overlook anything that happened after the SB victory, because I waited soooo long to see it. 15 years of putrid football and many more years of it before I became a fan. They FINALLY won a SB. Yep to me that’s worth overlooking him spitting in my mother’s face if it were to occur.

  91. Buc1987 Says:

Grrr you guys are making this hard.

Okay I get what you are saying. When they signed Gruden I too expected big things from the O even after the SB and we didn’t get it.

  92. DB55 Says:

Let me put it to you this way I don’t think Gruden could’ve came in and turn the organization around the way that Dungy did. I could be wrong but…

  93. Teacherman777 Says:

    @jim walker

    I can guess.

Chucky was blowin lines of coke!

  94. buc4lyfe Says:

It would show either he doesn’t have the heart to coach or how sorry of a coach you really have to be to be waiting around for a team to fire a coach that has all the pieces in place lol that’s weak. It’s nice he had a huge part book sitting around calling Monday night football but he’s already shown he knows nothing about building a winning team. He likes aging veterans which is what doomed Tampa and his bad drafting

  95. Phillip Says:

I’m extremely late to the party on this one… But Gruden would do just fine with getting a young QB and working with him… He has said NUMEROUS times why he got fired in Tampa was because he didn’t try and groom one as opposed to playing the vet… You think he would go right back to that? Think Gruden is a little smarter than that Joe…

Now is Carr the QB Gruden would want to groom that’s a totally different question…

  96. ddneast Says:

Keenan mcCardell was without a doubt the best WR the Bucs ever had. Vey underrated wherever he went.
