Time For Kevin O’Dea To Face Music
September 19th, 2014No, Lovie Smith has not done a good job. Let’s not be naive or look at the world with pewter and red glasses.
Yes, the offense is a mess. Joe suggested this would happen when it was announced offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford was sick. Folks either mocked Joe or flamed him.
No, Leslie Frazier hasn’t done a good job either, but he is mostly carrying Lovie’s water. This is Lovie’s defense, make no mistake.
But there is one area of the Bucs that has simply played s(p)itty football these first three games. And those are the charges of Kevin O’Dea, the special teams coach.
It was bad enough his special teams helped flush away a winnable game last Sunday against the Lambs. Tonight, was a flat out embarrassment.
Just who in the hell had the brainstorm to continue to punt time after freaking time after freaking time to Devin Hester? Does O’Dea not know who Hester is? Does O’Dea know Hester plays for the Dixie Chicks now and not the Bears? And after the first punt return Hester had that carved up the Bucs punt team, just what gave O’Dea the bright idea to continue to punt the ball to him?
PUNT THE FREAKING BALL OUT OF F’ING BOUNDS, GEEZ! How freaking hard is that to figure out?
O’Dea is in his 20th year in the NFL. His special teams thus far are a joke. And to continue to punt to Hester is flat out inexcusable.
And if for some reason Michael Koenen was disobeying O’Dea’s instructions, he should unemployed before the Bucs plane touches down at TIA tonight. It’s not like a winless team needs an expensive punter.
September 19th, 2014 at 12:12 am
I don’t even know why they pay someone to coach special teams. These are high school mistakes. Stay on your block, stay in your lane. Don’t punt to an assassin. Special teams problems solved.
September 19th, 2014 at 12:14 am
Yeah that’s it, put it on ST coach. Wouldn’t want Lovie to take any I do responsibility!
September 19th, 2014 at 12:14 am
Another hand picked Lovie failure. His eye for talent sucks.
September 19th, 2014 at 12:16 am
Fire them all…
September 19th, 2014 at 12:16 am
Blow this team up
September 19th, 2014 at 12:16 am
“No, Lovie Smith has not done a good job.”
He’s done an downright pathetic job.
Matt Ryan completed 24/24 passes did I hear that right?
September 19th, 2014 at 12:17 am
Joe you are kidding right……..
You are picking the special Teams coach to be the scapegoat?
You are a coward.
This is All Lovie’s Fault
September 19th, 2014 at 12:17 am
Curse of eric page. Change for the sake of change not really a great idea. How many other auality players ran out of town for hometown heros.
September 19th, 2014 at 12:18 am
Glazers should huddle tonight and sign some pink slips.
September 19th, 2014 at 12:18 am
Oh 21-24 passing. OMG either way.

So, reading comprehension isn’t your strong point, eh?
Who do you suspect hired O’Dea, Raheem Morris?
September 19th, 2014 at 12:21 am
Another blind man. Hope you are not driving home.
September 19th, 2014 at 12:21 am
even if we went 0-16….NO WAY Lovie gets fired. They would be paying two coaches to sit at home and not COACH! Gruden really stuck it to them when he sat on his couch collected 5 million a year and double dipped being an announcer for ABC/ESPN. A real established GM (football guy) needs to be hired to evaluate and OVERSEE the coach. Not the other way around. I knew this situation wasn’t going to work with the L&L club!
September 19th, 2014 at 12:23 am
Trying to think of a worse loss…. maybe when we lost to Oakland 45-0 under Dungy when Shaun King was our QB…
September 19th, 2014 at 12:23 am
I like Buc1987’s idea about putting Schiano back in charge since he is technically still being paid. I’d rather lose with a prepared team that can compete and knows how to use Lavonte David than watch this sht show all season!
September 19th, 2014 at 12:24 am
Yah put the Rutgers coach back in charge.
September 19th, 2014 at 12:26 am
wait isn’t that love first year with the bears what is 5-11 and then on the second year won the division
September 19th, 2014 at 12:26 am
On a side note. The the skull looks more fierce on the new logo nowadays, maybe that will scare a few opponents.

Unfortunately my reading comprehension is just fine. That was sarcasm Joe. Wasn’t that veiled…

Bad news pal, part of the reason lovie took the job was because the glazers offered him final say in personnel decisions. You can’t revoke that after 3 games or even a season.
For better or for worse lovie Smith controls the short term future of this franchise
September 19th, 2014 at 12:28 am
Can we take a moment to remember how great a coach Rich Bisaccia was? He actually brought some fire to the team.

That was then…but hey hold onto the past. Whatever gets you through. This team is not going to do jack squat next season or the season after that for that matter under this coach/GM.
September 19th, 2014 at 12:28 am
Finally able to make a comment, was getting a 404 error for a while. I’m not going to lie, this one hurts. During the week I said we might go 0-5, now I’m thinking it’s almost certain. But, like before, I still say Lovie will get this defense turned around after mid season. You can call me crazy, delusional, or even in denial, but we saw glimpses of good defensive play in this game. If I’m wrong, then you all can rip me a new one and because I’ll still be around. As for the offense… I’m not going to even pretend to have much hope for them lol. But I’ll repeat myself, this defense will get much better.

The Glazers are worth 4.4 billion dollars. Firing Lovie would not hurt their bank account too much.
September 19th, 2014 at 12:31 am
at least I know which team to pick in my survivor league #bucsopponent
September 19th, 2014 at 12:32 am
Andrew 1 you’re crazy, delusional, and in denial. I’m kidding but I don’t think the defense get’s much better this year. They don’t have the talent and the injuries have already piled up. There’s not a player on this roster that can rush the passer other than GMC, and the entire defense depends on pressuring the QB.
September 19th, 2014 at 12:33 am
@RealityCheck…yep.
September 19th, 2014 at 12:34 am
Lovie was making sure hester would break deion’s record tonight to apologise for not picking hester up as FA!
September 19th, 2014 at 12:35 am
There’s a lot of fans that will map out our perfect plan for next year. You draft a QB, get this guy, that guy but I can’t do that. It’s really not feasible. We are sincerely so bad that we need a QB and about 16 better starters including both sides of the ball.
September 19th, 2014 at 12:35 am
If someone mention Schiano one more dam time like he was any better!!!!
He sucked too !!!
September 19th, 2014 at 12:37 am
@ RealityCheck
Hey, like I said, I’ll be here all season. If I’m wrong then you all can rip me a new one and I wont say a word, other then to say you’re right. But before this season is through, you will see some really good defensive play, mark it down. I know even that wont be good enough for some of you, but that will be the start for a dominant defense.
September 19th, 2014 at 12:37 am
i don’t know i check it out on google thats what they said 5-11 on his first year then the second won the division
September 19th, 2014 at 12:39 am
Oh God, let’s all admit Lovie is a bad mistake, and bring back Coach Schiano.
September 19th, 2014 at 12:39 am
In the mean time, strap yourselves in, because it’s going to be much of the same for a while.
September 19th, 2014 at 12:51 am
Andrew- “before this season is through, you will see some really good defensive play, mark it down. I know even that wont be good enough for some of you, but that will be the start for a dominant defense.”
Why bother with such bold predictions that are based on nothing more than hope and what?…a few good plays out of 70? What’s the point? To say ‘hey I knew it would happen’? Sounds like some of your grand predictions about McCown and the other trash FAs during the offseason!

Ahhhhh….how I miss the good old days of Rah’s youngry Bucs led by J5 starring K2, Mike Williams, Blount, Talib, D. Penn, etc!

Freeman & company were good for at least making it watchable in the 4th quarter
September 19th, 2014 at 1:13 am
@ DallasBuc
Need I remind you that I specifically told you that Anthony Collins would be a stud. And what was you’re reaction back then? immediate skepticism, and negativity. You were wrong then, who’s to say you wont be wrong about this too. Predictions work both ways buddy. We’ll just have to wait and see, now won’t we.
September 19th, 2014 at 1:18 am
Joe
All I can say is turn out the lights, the party is over. I have never seen a pro team play this bad, the DBs were at least five yards from any receiver, our play calling was worse than what my six year old grandson would do and of course, our special teams again proved why they are so special.
September 19th, 2014 at 1:51 am
Andrew- Collins was abused tonight by a bad dline. He is not the stud you think he is.
September 19th, 2014 at 2:04 am
I was in attendance for Raheem’s last game, which was in Atlanta and 42-0 in the second quarter. I was in attendance at SF when we lost 48-3. Let me tell you this : this game was worse than both. This team has a perfect blend of bad play, bad coaching, bad luck, and bad effort.
September 19th, 2014 at 3:59 am
Lelsie Frazier SUCKS!! I was so disappointed when we got him and couldn’t get Marinelli! Settling for TRASH!
September 19th, 2014 at 6:00 am
I remember back some years when the Bucs lost to the Jets something like 63 to 30 something at home I believe. This Atlanta game was worse. On the one scoring drive the refs felt sorry obviously for the Bucs and intentionally erred in their calls. The play where Glennon was hit and fumbled but was called incomplete. I did’nt know the refs would show mercy for the thoroughly vanquished Succaneers. Pity party call I suppose.
September 19th, 2014 at 6:31 am
It’s going to be a long season folks !
September 19th, 2014 at 8:31 am
Shi’a no was garbage too, funny how ppl forget. We need this team to re group and re focus. Woke up this morning hoping I just had a bad dream lol, wow how embarrassing. Go glennon!! Go bucs!!!
September 19th, 2014 at 11:41 am
Joe’s right on this one: someone has to be held accountable for last night and from what I can see Kevin O’Dea is a prime candidate! The special teams have floundered 3 weeks in a row and since this was a Thursday night game, perhaps the long week until the next game can be treated like the bye week when one normally sacks a coach and shakes up the staff… I am still p!ssed over the blocked kicks in the Ram game, simply protect the kicker on either one of those plays and the Bucs actually beat the Rams. You have to hold the ST coach accountable!
September 19th, 2014 at 1:53 pm
Fire this guy. He is definitely not doing the job. Hire someone off the street. I mean anyone can have the punter kick to the most dangerous returner in the NFL and the Bucs could get away with paying him less. I am all for dumping the defensive coordinator to. How can the DC not see that with all the injuries we have on the defense you have to make some adjustmets in rushing the passer and defending the pass. If you don’t adjust, you get beat 56 to 14.
September 19th, 2014 at 10:57 pm
Buc1987 and DallasBuc: I still do not get your take on your “favorite ” team. You seem to want to rip people for optimism or hope for a better future for this team. This team sucked out loud last year at 4-12. We are now on our 3rd head coach in 5 years. This coach with a proven track record in this league, whether you like it or not, came in here and dismantled a bad roster and brought in an entirely new team for this season. 40 of the 53 man roster are new.
While I know Lovie and Licht said they expect to win now, everyone should understand that is coach talk. They are building their team with their players. Clearly they are not there yet but who thought they would be? If you did, you don’t know football or any competitive team sport. Hell, Tiger changes his swing again and has sucked ever since.
Derrick Brooks said it would take a while. The defense is complex. Players that have never played together need to trust each other and know their assignments. If you are truly a Bucs fan, then you have seen this before. It happened with McKay and with Dungy. You two sound like Philly fan. Always bitching and wanting to change out coaches. Philly ownership always seems to buckle to their extremely fickle fan base. Guess how many championships Philly has.
