Depressing Injury Report
September 12th, 2014
It is not even the second week of the season and the injuries are mounting for starters at key positions. Joe is nervous.
The Bucs released their final injury report of the week. Joe is confident this will have Bucs fans reaching for the nearest bottle of adult beverage, or run to the nearest watering hole wherever they are.
Woody Cummings of the Tampa Tribune has the details.
The Bucs have ruled DE M. Johnson (ankle), TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins (ankle) and CB Rashaan Melvin (ankle) out for Sunday’s game

So the Bucs’ starting defensive ends very well could be two guys they cut the past two weeks, Scott Solomon and Larry English. This is not good at all, but whoever starts couldn’t do any worse than Michael Johnson and Adrian Clayborn. They got about as much pressure on Stinking Panthers quarterback Derek Anderson as Joe did sitting in the press box.
Man oh man oh man. Just what do the Bucs have to do to get an edge rush. Geez. Do Bucs fans have to start sacrificing roosters or something?

So much for cutting down on hitting in the off-season. Seems like there are more injuries now. Players need to get in ‘football shape’ and the only way to do that is hit a bit more in practice.

Regarding all the injuries, albeit without all of last year’s MERS situation, Lovie will soon know how Greg Schiano felt last year. Not so much fun.

You know, things are pretty bad when just before the 2nd game of the season you are thinking (“glass is half full”) about who we can draft with what will be a top pick, if not #1. Thats bad.

I’m actually not concerned. Like you said joe they didn’t get any pressure anyways. Bring in the back ups and maybe one of them will shine. Which would be huuuuge.

All the hype and optimism I had in my pre-season bucs balloon is quickly deflating. Injuries, Tedford, piss poor opening day performance. Why does this always happen to us? We can never just go into the season and play all out smash mouth football. IT’s like our players ar sunder a curse for the first three quarters every year and every game. Then in the fourth quarter they come too and realize they are playing in the NFL. I hope this isn’t the case Sunday. I’m tired of it. I think Gruden put Voodoo on this organization when they let him go. Him and Brooks must have had some kind of black magic ceremony. Someone needs to talk to those guys and ask how to break the curse. Either that or the stadium is built on some ancient indian burial ground. Something I don’t know but this sucks. Glad fantasy football at least gives me something to cheer for every weekend.

There is no answer were just not that good or deep,, the only way it do draft well and dominick set us back 3years… u cant miss on 1st or 2nd round talent ever! Unless u have a top 5 qb that will makeup for all the crap on ur team..

I’d be surprised if GMC actually WANTED to come back next year, regardless of contract talks. Why play for the sackless, no pressure, no pass defense Buccaneers when he could go play on a team like the Texans or Rams or Dolphins with a guaranteed tremendous edge rush?
He’s getting no help from this line, and that is the depressing part.

It seems ironic that after writing a piece about Jenkins IR is “Addition by Subtraction” to lament over an unproven CB being ruled out and continual blogs concerning Johnson not being productive, that Joe is “depressed” about the injury report. ASJ’s injury status is of concern, but if holding him out Sunday against the Rams means that he is effective Thursday against the Falcons, I’m for it. When you look at players like Dotson and Rainey that started from nothing, I’m glad players without big contracts or draft status have an opportunity to show what they can do.

1) it fíng depressing to witness how this site is actually censoring. Freedom of speech? (and no, it wasn´t about way off topic stuff and long texting – just simple samples to show how the NFL works….
2) the 2nd string O-Coordinator even admitted the (obvious dump) strategy the bucs had against the Carolina: to run the ball against one of the best front 7´s in the NFL with a so-so Oline; despite the obvious weaker secondary of their Defense(!)
COULD IT BE THE BUCS STAFF ACTUALLY PULLED A SHIANO BASED STRATEGY LEVEL? GAMEPLANING LIKE WTF?

4) BIGGEST CONCERN:
why are the bucs trying/failing to get “an identity” espicially on offense?
How about simply trying to beat the other teams defenses with mismatches; trying to attack the weaknesses?
instead, on a SHIANO LEVEL OF STUBBORNESS, THEY TRY TO FORCE THEIR WAY – TO ESTABLISH “THE IDENTITY – RUN FIRST” WITH A SO-SO OLINE…. IN A PASSING LEAGUE

Logically thinking, if the Bucs defeat the Rams it will be a huge surprise worthy of a fan riot and a parade. To me it does’nt look as likely after being a near sure thing a few days ago. Hurry up Sunday, I gotta get off this seesaw of emotions. A Bucs win would work wonders for Buc land.

As much as I disliked the Teflon Dom as a GM I do not blame injuries on him. I will be honest and say that I was glad that we snagged Bowers in the 2nd round at the time. The guy was projected to go NO.1 OVERALL before his injury. But that was a pre-existing injury, you don’t have control over what happens after you sign/draft players.
GMC, Clayborn, Carl Nicks, etc. All of them were good at what they did before they got here and got injured. Luckily GMC came off fine.
I have no problem with the Evans pick, without Mike Williams we needed a guy like Evans, who is a Vjax clone and was a stud at A&M. McCown is more of a Lovie guy IMO, but if you want to put him on Licht I won’t blame you.
All the others are injuries, the GM cannot control that. Verner and Mankins, proven players that were needed to fill big holes here in Tampa. Sims and ASJ were due for big roles too.
The biggest crime L&L are accused of right now is taking a wrecking ball to the O-line, outside of the Mankins trade.

I’m actually optimistic. Everyone who thinks that lovie was in charge that’s good because maybe now Jason can go get the players he wants that fit what lovie wants to do, he’s clearly lacking in talent evaluation

Obviously, you’re not a doctor. Hitting will keep players from tearing biceps and spraining ankles, etc…. yeah, in freaking fantasy land. Injuries happen, they have always happened, and they will continue to happen, even if we took every pea brain’s ridiculous advice.

Players dropping like flies! Is it any wonder? They’re not even allowed to contact one another in practice according to the rules. The NFL has wussified the league due to all the over regulation. It’s done the opposite of what the regulations intended. Bring back two a days or should I say three a days. The hockey players need to teach the football players about toughness. They get hit in the face with a puck going a 100mph resulting in a broken nose and want to get right back on the ice. Football players pull hamstrings just walking. Wussies!

Johnson and Jenkins are not long term injuries are they? English actually got a sack and performed well in the preseason. Did any of our other DEs?
I was hoping Clayborn would have a good year, but this was to be his last chance, so time to move on.
If we get a 1st pick next year (not gonna happen), Lovie will use it on a DE. So hoping for a QB in the next drraft is a waste of time.
I would rather not give up after 1 of 16 games.

I see Gholston is not on the our for Sunday’s game list. Hopefully he can get some meaningful playing time under his belt, that always helps the younger guys. I think he has a real chance at locking down that end position eventually.

Gholston should have started at LDE. He can handle the job. Means is not good enough, but I want to see what English can do. Bowers, when healthy, is a good backup for GMC. If our Safeties don’t have good games this week, I am for starting Major Wright and Tandy against the Falcons. However, every defensive coordinator we face is going to figure out how to exploit Foster until Lovie puts Lansanah in there! On Offense if our Shrimps keep getting a yard a carry, missing blocks, and getting stripped of the ball, we need to start using our battering ram FB wear down the Rams Defense. He can make yards on his own. Go with double TEs to keep Josh from being harassed. Put Patton in there as a deep threat. Tedford is well enough to sit in a booth and call plays!

Also I don’t know what this fascination with Means is all about. He is not even good enough to be a backup player. Yes Lovie said he was a “prototype” but I think he meant that in terms of the way he looks, not plays. He unfortunately stinks.

My biggest hope is that we don’t embarrass ourselves during Derrick Brooks Ring of honor game. This game has a lot of eyes on it because of this ceremony. They owe it to the legends in attendance to put on their very best effort. I am not as much worried about the injuries just yet (out side of ASJ) Johnson was Garbage and i am excited to see what Gholston can bring to the table as a starter. Clayborn going down and replaced wit Bowers, well let’s just say I am “MEH” about it. Don’t know why Jenkins was starting over Banks anyways so happy to see Banks back in the starting line up. Also having Mankins back is a nice boost for the offense.
