This Ain’t The SEC
September 12th, 2014A lot is expected of Bucs rookie wide receiver Mike Evans. The tall seventh-overall pick is expected to lead the Tampa Bay offense into the 21st Century, even though we are 15 years into it.
Evans has shined at times in practice and made a few really nice plays in the preseason. But his first taste of regular season football on the NFL level? Well, he learned quickly he’s not playing Arkansas any longer.
“The hits hurt more than I thought,” Evans said of playing big boy football against the Stinking Panthers last week. “The game is much faster and whoever executes the game plan better, that’s the team that’s going to win. We didn’t execute as well as we should have.”
The neat thing is that Evans still has that grinding mentality. He (as well as Austin Seferian-Jenkins) really impress Joe in that they don’t want to just be good; They want to grow as professionals and dominate and lead the Bucs to greatness.
So even though Evans admitted playing big boy football for real was an eye-opener, he can’t wait until Sunday when the Lambs come to town. Evans noted that the Lambs play a lot of man-coverage, and he and fellow receiver Vincent Jackson can’t wait to get on the field.
“Hopefully we can make some plays and keep our defense off of the field and score some points on them,” Evans said.

Welcome to the NFL Rook!
OBW, Joe, your mancrush – ASJ, needs to figure out how to stay healthy, the initial sniff test on this guy is that he is injury-prone.

The SEC? When Evans saw McCown flailing around throwing the ball up for grabs, he probably thought he was back in Pop Warner.

And when reads some if the”Fan” comments, he probably thinks he got drafted by Phildelphia, New York, or some other such Cesspool.

@ CTBFDJL:
I think Mike has more pressing things to do than read fan comments.

I hope the O line can figure out how to block and our QB can can somehow look professional. Because this guy would and will be a superstar in a good offense.

Why not. Once the season starts- it’s a fairly regular job, except your weekend starts Monday.
And you work a lot of 10 hour days, if you count the gym time.

Mike Evans saw how McCown was throwing the ball carelessly, I’m sure he was feeling like he was back at his A&M days.

I actually agree with Joe on our O-Line issues right now….I don’t think that the O-Line was the cause of Buccaneer woes last Sunday, and although a (Major) factor, this shouldn’t be Evans’ biggest concern right now. I too am impressed with both ASJ’s and Evans’ approach to the game thus far….I see nothing but positive coming from both of these guys, as long as ASJ can stay healthy!
