“The Gronk-Type Running Skills”

September 9th, 2014

austin seferian-jenkins 0812Nothing quite like film study to get Joe aroused. It’s not cheerleader arousal, but still fun nonetheless.

Remember that big catch and run by rookie tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins on the Bucs’ opening offensive series Sunday?

Well, it’s all broken down fantastically for you here in a new Xs and Os segment by former tight end Anthony Becht for Buccaneers.com. Check out the link. You’ll love it.

Becht breaks down the 26-yard catch by the young manbeast over the middle, and you get a good look at his “Gronk-type running skills,” as Becht calls them. Josh McCown also deserves kudos for a great throw. Close observers also will note that either Mike Evans or Doug Martin did not run a precise route for the play. Martin is way to close to Evans.

Last night on Total Access on WDAE-AM 620, Lovie Smith lamented how Seferian-Jenkins hurt his ankle early in the game and was limited the rest of the way.

Lovie was glad, however, that Seferian-Jenkins got a big play and stressed the importance of getting rookies involved and successful early in their first season.

The head coach was very clear that his rookie tight end will be a big a critical component to the Bucs winning games this season. That play was just a tiny taste.

    Article needs proofreading Joe

    Huh?–Joe

  4. Jonny 2.3 Says:

But yeah, agree with everything you say. Now if only our O-line can buy enough time and McCown can play calm to locate him and other Dunkaneers more often.

  5. Patrick in VA Says:

It looked like there was a bit of a rhythm developing toward the end of the game between McCown and the receivers. Not sure if it’s because of the softened defense, as has been suggested, but it’s encouraging to see them completing passes. Hoping to see that in quarters 1-3 going forward

ASJ buying your jersey next brotha

Pablo thinks Joe made a typo . What Is Gronk? Joe has some explaining to do ..

Umm, that would be Rob Gronkowski. –Joe

  8. Buccfan37 Says:

Is Seferian-Jenkins ankle injury a problem going forward?

Is Seferian-Jenkins ankle injury a problem going forward?

    Perhaps. Time will tell.

Flying in Saturday from NC, we will win this week

  11. Jim Says:

With the way other teams’ TE’s torch the Bucs, it is about time the Bucs to the same in return. It may also help the Bucs prepare better for opponents.

  12. The_Buc_Realist Says:

Joe If Glennon made wright look like an equal value to a pro-bowl guard, just think what Glennon will do with ASJ!!!

  13. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Only idiots attempt to proofread and correct the writing of those more intelligent them themselves.

  14. FLBoyInDallas Says:

    ^ “than” themselves

  15. DB55 Says:

Yes Joe can you proofread the part where he says “now, we’re going to look at the first touchdown we scored which came in the fourth quarter with 5 mins left in garbage time”. I think he left out the !!!!

  16. robert9 Says:

problem is mcclown still can’t see wide open 6’5 receivers.

how many times did he completely not see them open or wait and take a sack. sickening. when he did hit ASJ the O line gave him enough time to eat a snack before the throw. enough BS about the O line. they played admirable given their pedigree. ASJ looked good, but mcclown needs to go NOW before we get completely demoralized should we lose to the rams.

    Stop making me drool.

  18. Ray Rice Says:

Forest Gump can run all he wants but what good is it if he doesn’t get the dam ball! Joes “Man Child Beast” should stop complaining about a rolled ankle. He should take Mccown and Teddy into an elevator where no one can see and throw left hooks until they guarantee he will get the ball this Sunday! #RayRice

  19. Bobby Says:

Yeah, I did like the way he runs after catching the ball. Hard to bring down.

  20. RastaMon Says:

Speaking of running skills LaMichael James formerly of the 49ers is available

  21. The_Buc_Realist Says:

I know this is way off topic, but where are all the “Trade Martin to the Ravens for a Second rounder” people at. I really thought they would be around banging the drum and articles written ?

  22. Unislookgoodunislookugly Says:

Good article Joe but please refrain forever of sharing anything that arouses you. Reminds me of two old men Ron and Ian constantly sloppering on their mikes daily for girls old enough to be their grandchildren. Pretty disturbing.

  23. CC Says:

We could have Jerry Rice n Montana. Brady n Gronk. Would not matter with this o line.

  25. TimTebowPassingAcademy Says:

Enough with the proof reading crap. Were you able to comprehend the article? Yes? Then move on & talk football. ASJ can be a good player but we need reliable QB play to further evaluate his true potential.

  26. CC Says:

Not only a reliable QB but a reliable o line. The Panthers d line were getting pressure on McCown’s 3 step drops. Combine pressure with a career backup QB = FAIL.

  27. Nick Says:

And Just Like ” Gronk ” one big play and DONE !

Can’t help the club in the Tub !

  28. Tom Says:

“Close observers also will note that either Mike Evans or Doug Martin did not run a precise route for the play. Martin is way to close to Evans.”

I think this is what the grammar police above were referring to-maybe? Should “either” be “neither?” I enjoy the blog. Thanks.
