Lack Of Jeff Tedford “Not An Effect”

September 7th, 2014

Doug Martin claims OC Jeff Tedford’s medical leave has not hurt the Bucs offense. Joe finds that difficult to swallow.

Joe remembers writing that the medical leave of Bucs offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford was likely a monster story simmering in the background, lost amid the sleazy Richie Incognito romance and the trade for Logan Mankins.

As we learned from uber NFL insider Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, Tedford had a stent implanted. Since, he has been more visitor at One Buc Palace than employee.

Of course, the Bucs tried to spin it as little more than a hiccup, that by the power and magic of the Interwebs and tablets, Tedford was active in crafting a gameplan.

Well, for those that think Joe was overblowing the absence of Tedford, Joe refers to the first three quarterbacks of the game today.

The offense was as discombobulated as a Josh Freeman-led offense. The amount of boneheaded, sloppy and careless stunts by starting quarterback Josh McCown would have gotten a high school sophomore quarterback benched much less a 35-year old NFL veteran.

Does anyone really believe if Tedford had been a regular at One Buc Palace in recent weeks, and was doing his normal duty today, all of this would have happened?

After the game, Bucs running back Doug Martin repeatedly and forcefully stated Tedford’s medical leave  was “not an effect” on the awful play of the offense.

Look, Martin is a good guy. Joe expected him to say as much. Joe didn’t expect (but, hey, you never know) Martin to say, “Man, if Tedford was here, we would have scored 40 points.”

Joe simply doesn’t buy the waving off of Tedford being away. If that truly is the case, folks are admitting Tedford’s position is unneeded and nothing more than a figurehead gig.

Joe can promise you not one person at One Buc Palace would even remotely suggest that is the case.

    That’s reassuring….cut McCown

How is there a “Lack of Jeff Tedford” if he is in the booth with a head set on?

  3. BucTrooper Says:

A 13 year old with MADDEN would have been about as effective.

Can the doctors put a stint in the bugs offense? Can they check for a pulse? Will the fans have to wait for other teams prevent defense so the bugs can move the ball!!!

Joe, seriously, you are going to blame the 12 year “veteran” McCown’s horrific play on Jeff Tedford not being around? We were led to believe McCown is a leader, makes smart decisions, etc etc. Face it – he laid a loaf today like many of us predicted he would. He’s not good – with or without Tedford around.

  6. RealityCheck Says:

If his absense didn’t have an effect, then I am truly scared to watch the rest of this season. There was absolutely nothing new about that offense. The play fakes and misdirection by the Panthers was way better than anything we saw from the Bucs. And STILL, after years and year and years, we run it up the middle on first down. It’s as if they are contractually obligated to run up the middle on first down.

  7. BucBob1 Says:

Why the secrecy about the procedure? It only led to negative speculation. There is nothing embarrasing about having a stent procedure. If the organization had been more forthcoming, it would have led to a lot more “Get well Soon’s”.

    Lol a cut McCown

    SMH

I really really really hope Tedford’s absence really hurt our offense. I think I believe it to be the case, but I’m so used to us having horrible offenses that it’s hard for me to think that positive. And regardless about what happened today, the Rams defense is no slouch either.

  10. Clintro Says:

    No effect? Not buying it.

  11. RachelWatson'sthong Says:

I love Martin but he played like dookey Son.

  12. Capt.Tim,Back from Davie Jones's locker Says:

They said he had “multiple stents”.
He must of been pretty clogged up.
Still surprised it has caused him to miss this much work. Stents are a one day, spend the night- go home deal

    I know- I have 3

  13. OB Says:

    Joe

It was not the OC that caused McCown to look and play like a deer caught in the headlights and freeze. Maybe he had something wrong with him that caused him to to play like he did, maybe brain dead. He should have been benched and been given time to regroup and sent back in and if he continued to play like he was, benched for good. He is not a rookie although he played like a Pop Warner QB rookie.

So know we will see what our coaches are made of, will they bench the ones on both sides of the ball like they should or just continure to give us happy talk?

Tedford here there or anywhere had 0 effect on Carolina going through Tampa like a dose of epson salt. No wonder they played like sh*t.

  15. RAGU Says:

The offensive struggles were all about coaching. Case in point look at how well Carolina schemed for the bucs front 7. Anderson was two steps back and ball was out. Bucs run the ball up the middle on 1st and second down then have Mccown taking 5 step drop on 3rd down.

Did Mike Shula circa 2000 pirate the bucs playcalling headsets
