Rivera Is “Leaning” Or Lying About Cam Newton
September 7th, 2014Update: Cam Newton is inactive!
It’s 1 o’clock and it’s still a mystery whether Cam Newton will play against the Buccaneers in three hours. Of course, the Panthers surely know already and are simply playing head games with Lovie Smith and Leslie Frazier, and the oddsmakers in Las Vegas.
But now the head games have reached the company insiders at NFL Network.
The reporter with a pipeline to every NFL general manager, Ian Rapoport, is Twittering this afternoon that the Panthers are leaning “No” on Newton.
#Panthers leaning toward starting QB Derek Anderson today, not Cam Newton, I’m told. Still time to make a call. But that’s the word now
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) September 7, 2014
Joe’s had about enough of this nonsense. Assuming both quarterbacks are on the field for pregame warmups, Joe will believe in what actually happens when Carolina lines up in their first series of today’s game.

Jay Glazer also saying Cam is out…
September 7th, 2014 at 1:15 pm
Not sure how I feel about this. Bucs have an embarrassing history of letting backup QBs beat them.
September 7th, 2014 at 1:29 pm
Bucs have an advantage for now with a new coaching staff and unknown new offensive scheme, so Rivera is just pushing back with a little gaming of his own. I honestly don’t blame him.
September 7th, 2014 at 1:32 pm
DallasBuc, I saw the same thing (Cam out), and had same reservations as your second post. DAMN, get outta my head Bro!!! Lol
Go Bucs
September 7th, 2014 at 1:34 pm
nfl now is awesome…
September 7th, 2014 at 1:55 pm
Go bucs
September 7th, 2014 at 1:56 pm
Fox running report that Newton will not play.
No excuses for Bucs. Must win.
September 7th, 2014 at 1:56 pm
We will absoulutely destroy Derek Anderson
September 7th, 2014 at 1:59 pm
Hopefully Newton plays…No excuses Mano E Mano.
September 7th, 2014 at 2:05 pm
How close until game time do the inactives have to be turned in?
September 7th, 2014 at 2:26 pm
I don’t think it will matter which one plays. This game will be 85% defense anyway.
September 7th, 2014 at 2:38 pm
It’s called a game time decision, something every team does. It’s not that’s serous and lovie Smith doesn’t deserve to be head coach if he didn’t game plan for cam
September 7th, 2014 at 2:43 pm
Can u smell that? I can…… I smell pu**y…… The panthers are scared… Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!
September 7th, 2014 at 2:47 pm
There is no incentive to lie now seeing as Tampa has undoubtably prepared for Cam all week. No need to prepare for Derek Anderson really.
September 7th, 2014 at 2:50 pm
In watching many of our future opponents games today I am leaning more toward a 10 win season for the Bucs. Falcons, Rams, Browns, Bears, Ravens, Redskins all look bad thus far today. More worried about the Saints (week 5) and Steelers(week 4) games than I was before today. GO BUCS!!!!!
September 7th, 2014 at 3:00 pm
Falcons improved. Can’t believe I’m rooting for them, but I would rather the Saint have the worse record so far as division standings. I KNOW we can beat the Falcons.
September 7th, 2014 at 3:01 pm
Newton is inactive
September 7th, 2014 at 3:01 pm
@MGM4Life
You see the condition Big Ben is in????
September 7th, 2014 at 3:04 pm
Yup, Cam officially inactive.
September 7th, 2014 at 3:04 pm
Broken ribs. I’d keep him away from Gerald McCoy too. Gerald is likely to break a few of Anderson’s today also.
September 7th, 2014 at 3:05 pm
See ya “Superman” Bucs 1-0
September 7th, 2014 at 3:07 pm
If Anderson is the play… lets not have a repeat of a couple years ago. When Chad Pennington couldn’t go, and we lost to freakin’ Vinny Testaverde fresh off the couch.
Annihilate the Panthers!
GO BUCS!!
September 7th, 2014 at 3:14 pm
Steelers going with no huddle offense. What looked like a blowout has Browns back in it in second half.
September 7th, 2014 at 3:20 pm
Cam newton is out. Anderson’s in. Still excited for football but pissed it won’t be against their best.
September 7th, 2014 at 3:23 pm
We now have back to back weeks against back-ups. Time to shine
September 7th, 2014 at 3:31 pm
Damn! Miami is harassing the sh#t out Brady..lol
September 7th, 2014 at 3:32 pm
Joe’s not on the ball today……Cam Newton is inactive and we as readers should not the ones posting it. Come on Joe get on the ball
September 7th, 2014 at 3:53 pm
Lets Go!
September 7th, 2014 at 3:53 pm
Huge advantage Saints and falcons look beatable
September 7th, 2014 at 4:15 pm
Don’t be so sure, Bird. Falcons just tied the game and they are in overtime.
September 7th, 2014 at 4:17 pm
bucfan999, Joe is likely at the game right now.
September 7th, 2014 at 4:19 pm
LOL!!!!!! Saints fumbled and Falcons recovered on 30!
September 7th, 2014 at 4:21 pm
Falcons WIN!
Hope I never cheer that again!
September 7th, 2014 at 4:22 pm
Matt Bryant wins it. Our former kicker.
September 7th, 2014 at 4:23 pm
Watching ATL game wondering if Bucs fans now understand why you need an experienced clutch kicker. Not a position you want to try to save a few bucks on.
