If they can get him on the cheap, why not? EDS has established himself as the leader of the Oline, and does anyone think Mankins will put up with that crap?
I agree with Patrick. Rishaw Johnson could be the answer, but it’s too soon to know…. He definitely has the potential to be a force inside for us though. He’s definitely got that mean & nasty demeanor that I like for Olinemen
We’re way better off now with Johnson and Mankins.
I don’t know if I buy into the propaganda that
Richie will poison the locker room, however
locker-room chemistry is very real and very
important.
I really don’t know at this point.
I’ve been beating the “free Richie” drum,
but maybe I’m wrong.
Incognito should be given one rule… the only people he is allowed bully are the opposing defensive linemen.
Of course I am having a second thought here.
If Richie does play again, then every single game he is going to go up against D Linemen who are going to be gunning for him because of his comments. 16 games long… he may eventually crack and wear down from that and become ineffective.
I’m tired of the TB media(looking at you Joe) acting like signing Incognito would be a nightmare for team cohesion or the locker room. Incognito’s problems in Miami happened on a team that he was established and(for obviously the worse) a leader on. He would be coming to Tampa on a vet min. contract with likely very little guaranteed money so that the team can separate easily if need be.
Yes, here is why. Regardless of Joe’s bs about “he is a name we recognize”, 1) Incognito is a talented guard, he would be an improvement over any other G we have but Mankins. 2) He would be cheap bc no one is going to take a chance on him and give him big money. 3) He costs us a hell of a lot less than Mankins; outside of the est. $2M/yr, we don’t have to trade a player or give up a draft pick. 4) His addition would give the Bucs one of the best lines in the NFL and give us depth.
I promise you, Richie will be on his best behavior – he knows this is it for him.
It pays to sometimes take a chance on a player. Look at Brandon Marshall. Lovie gave up two 3rd rd picks for him, which at the time was a lot considering Brandon had 2 domestic violence issues, DUIs, etc. He was on his way out of the league just like Incognito. At the time of the trade, Brandon got psych help and cleaned up his life. Now look at the trade and Brandon was a steal.
Hey, I wonder if Licht can negotiate an NFL rules exemption with Goddell to allow Omamhen and Cousins to play the other guard position at the same time. I think the double team may be able to block a D tackle at least some of the time.
Going to be a tough move for Logan, he may take time to get right on the MENTAL side of things. He loved NE, he had many friends, probably feels a bit betrayed though. I say yes to Incongnito. Logan would keep him straight I believe. Sign him, we have 7 million left.
One injury on the line and we are right back to square one. Bring him in. Any BS and just cut him. There is no way he is demanding anything significant in terms of salary.
It’s worth it with the “win-now” mentality being expressed by Licht and Lovie. A lot of big personalities here to keep him in check.
Regardless of Joe’s bs about “he is a name we recognize”

Lol. I throw that comment in the basket with “we’re jealous
of Manzells ability to ‘pull'”.
I the same way that I was right about Manzell I look at
Richie primarily as a talent upgrade who was victimized
by political correctness run amok.
HOWEVER…Richies long history of being a jackass worries me.
Guard is no longer a glaring need.
The young guys can now develop behind an icon.
Listen Hoss,
I don’t let any channel on the idiot-box dictate
one iota of anything that I think about anything.
Political correctness is a real problem.
It results in a shift of values.
Think of the media as the biggest bi-poster/
sock-puppet/ multi-account on the planet.
It’s a handful of people making their opinions
seem like the opinions of everyone by playing
to peoples desire to be part of the crowd.

I asked Joe, months ago, to tell me why Richie would be a bad fit. He said, “If I have to explain it, you would not get it” – in other words, I am a dumb ass. LOL
Yes, Richie got all the blame for the deal in Miami when others that were involved are still on the team. But he is an ass. I think Richie is not stupid enough to misbehave and make his exit from the NFL permanent.
I just hope mankins is ready and willing to give his all for the bucs. From the sounds of it he was contemplating retirement in the next year or 2. This move could push his retirement up early. Reminds me of the Jake Plummer trade. If mankins does have the ability to be the best LG in the game, it’s just a matter of his will. I love the trade to acquire him, I’m just a bit worried about his reaction of the shock of leaving NE.
*I* would not want Richie in my locker room for the reasons I’ve stated in previous posts, but with the addition of Mankins, there is now an added issue. *If* Rishaw Johnson were to beat out Richie, for the other guard position, how would Richie react? There is no doubt, in my mind, that Richie sees his next job (if he’s offered one) as his chance to get back to the ‘big’ money. How will sitting behind another player help him?
I would play out this year, as is, and go after linemen in the next draft and free agency. But, then again, this is Lovie “I Never Saw an O-lineman I Liked” Smith. 🙂
I’d pass on Incognito. Once a repulsive jerk as an adult it won’t rub off. His writing is on the wall and it’s in permanent ink. Let some other team put up with his BS.

Absolutely

Get Incognito on the cheap and all of a sudden guard is a strength (and deep): Logan, Johnson and Incognito.
August 27th, 2014 at 11:49 am
No. It is no longer worth the bad press.
August 27th, 2014 at 11:55 am
Yes, if we can get Incognito cheap, why not ?
Sign him with the understanding that if there is ANY drama from him, he is gone.

With Mankins and the Center proven leaders, they will control Richie plus Lovie is a hammer.
