Jonathan Casillas Gets Punished

Starting strong side linebacker Jonathan Casillas was left home today, remaining in Tampa while his teammates were pounding the Bills in Buffalo.
Lovie Smith made it clear this was a punishment.
Speaking to Joe and other media after the game, Lovie said Casillas “didn’t meet our standards for our football players, so there’s punishment that goes with that.”
Lovie also implied Casillas’ crime wasn’t a roster death sentence. “With Jonathan being back with our football team tomorrow, that kind of tells you how we feel about it,” Lovie said.
Joe talked to another Bucs source who said the matter was strictly an internal team issue.
Joe’s not sure where Casillas stands. The Bucs defense sure was humming with big-hitter Danny Lansanah filling in as a starter.

Michael Johnson is the one that needs to be left in Tampa. I have a lot of thigns to be excited about on this defense. But i am sorely disappointed in Michaels play up to this point. He has show 0 pressure against some supbar LT’s all preseason. I mean even Clayborn is at least getting pressure regularly and everyone seems to think he is a bubble player this year.
At the very least they need to add competition to his side. I say once Gholston gets healthy you put him at RE to nip at Johnsons heels for play time. This guy is suppose to be the premier off season signing to “finally” give us a consistant pass rush and i don’t even notice him on the field.
/rant off. As for the rest of the D I was quite happy with what i saw on the field today.

I/We should probably leave this as an internal matter, but inquiring minds are going to want to know. Obviously, it’s not a big deal as Lovie said.
I did notice something at the beginning of the game that was curious. Bradley McDougald got the start over Mark Barron. Perhaps Danny Lansannah got the start over Casillas and Casillas went too far in expressing his disapproval of the move.
I have no idea that that was the actual reason, but it’s the type of minor situation that could cause a little friction. Again, just guessing here.

Wow, thats pretty strong. Wonder what the heck he did? Yeah, maybe a “stay home” for Johnson would get his butt going more. I focused on him thru several possessions and I am NOT impressed.

I agree the D looks great but let’s remember it’s been against Jacksonville, Miami, and the Bills. I wish we had a chance against a team that has has some offense to get a true gage. I disagree with Joe that although the O-line is still a work in progress played well enough against a team know for a good D.

#2 Gholston is a lot of things, but a quality RDE is DEFINITELY not one of them.

Evidence #1 of how crack destroys the mind. Get rid of the guy that WILL be an impact player for two guys that will be held together with duct tape and super glue this season with their careers clearly on the down swing. That’s the way to build a team. You’re a regular Danny Snyder.

Brandon you obviously have seen the Green Bay highlights. Peppers is still a beast and he came cheaper than Johnson who hasn’t done a damn thing in preseason.
Danny Lansanah looked a lot better than cassillas anyway.

Kudos to Licht for bringing in Lansanah who is superior as as a starter and can play MLB as well if Foster does not cover the seam well. Casillas has value on Special Teams and as a backup LB but is not good enough to start at SLB. That position is Foster’s best position if he is replaced at MLB!
