ASJ Not Worried About Playing Time
August 22nd, 2014While Bucs fans are understandably excited and giddy for the play of their rookie tight end, the monster that is Austin Seferian-Jenkins, right now he is not the No. 1 tight end. Read what you wish into it, but fan favorite Luke Stocker started last week.
As a pass-catcher, ASJ is an absolute freaking mismatch nightmare for both linebackers and cornerbacks. Even so, ASJ won’t start until he grasps elements he is learning on the NFL level. And he is fine with that.
“I just think it is just keep getting reps in practice and keep getting batter, ” ASJ said. “I don’t know about playing time. All I can do is do what I do and do my job in practice. I am more concerned about learning. Playing time will come.”
The way ASJ talks, it sounds as if the offense is one big family, that every member, especially the tight ends group, doesn’t hold back in trying to help teammates with tips and advice.
“The cool thing about our group is that everyone pushes each other,” ASJ said. “We interject when we see things on the film room. Everyone. It is a really healthy competition and really refreshing to be in there and everyone wants to get better. We are a tight knit group.”
ASJ noted there are just a couple of things he needs to work on and once he gets a handle on those elements, he will be fine in the NFL.
“Blocking and footwork and technique with my hands,” ASJ said. “Once I get [those] down, I will be all right.”
The thing that impresses Joe about ASJ is not just his physical ability, but his attitude (not to be confused with ‘tude). ASJ knows he needs work and isn’t shy about admitting it because he wants to be a complete ball player, not just a one-dimensional guy. That’s a dude with lofty goals and standards.

Joe’s “mancrush” will do it the old fashioned way: He’ll EARN it!

Joe
Do you see an attitude change since Lovie has come on board? This sure sounds like someone is mentoring the young players.
They will blossom this year.

Love ASJ wish him a brilliant rookie season, but Joe what is up with Mike Evans how is he handling the nfl transition is he putting in extra work off field ?

The more I hear about this kid the more I love him as much as lovie. He just keeps working and busting his butt
without being a distraction

anyone get the feeling this is all a big ruse?
I.e. come gameday the offense will look different. ASJ and Tim Wright on the field at the same time and locker on the bench where he should be.
I sure hope so. I really don’t want to see dungy’s/lovies offense ever again. would much rather see some chip kelly action or saints type offense

What is the likelihood Brandon Myers is cut? It seems like we never hear anything about him and isn’t Stocker and cheaper option that can be that “blocking” tight end?

He will be the top tight end on this team when it’s said and done.

Is Luke Stocker really a fan favorite or is this some kind of joke I’ve missed?

Stocker’s not cheaper if Myers’ contract is guaranteed, which it almost certainly is, at least for this year.

Have to admit, the new uni’s are starting to grow on me…
I’m excited to see the mismatch problems ASJ and Tim Wright will cause from the TE position…especially in our division…
