The Boot
August 19th, 2014The rash of Bucs injuries, in particular to the defense, is starting to unnerve some Tampa Bay fans, and if you believe the words typed by Peter King himself, the Bucs are shopping for secondary help.
Alterraun Verner already stated he isn’t sure if he is 100 percent ready to play Saturday in Buffalo. To add to fans’ angst, it sure doesn’t look like fellow corner Rashaan Melvin will be ready to go either.
Per Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times, Melvin has a wheel in the boot.
Bucs LB Brandon Magee and CB Rashaan Melvin still had boots on at practice as they recover from foot/ankle injuries …

Joe already stated that when he saw Melvin limping in the Bucs locker room following the second preseason game against Miami, Joe said to himself, “This isn’t good.” Melvin just cannot stay healthy and that’s a shame.
Given he is in a boot, even if precautionary, it is hard to see how he will be ready to go Saturday.
In the glass-is-half-full mentality, that means the likes of Danny Gorrer will and should get plenty of work this week.

Not impressed with Melvin after two years of camp talk and what he put on film is not starter quality.

Joe, what about your boy Manziel. WHere did all the posts go? He is starting to look foolish.
Sorry pal. I liked him too. Dont want to stick a fork in him, but he just looks like a spoiled punk. You have to agree

I believe the secondary has HUGE problems……under the “what if” scenario…..Jenkins is unreliable, suppose Verner pops the hammie against Carolina in the first half…….you get the picture….
Banks is the only reliable corner starter at this moment with any skill set.

Juet to help you out, Manziel was drafted by the Browns in May. Joe writes about the Bucs.

I know Joe , I was just giving you a kick in the side. Gotta admit though, Johnny Football looks like a punk. Teams are starting to break him down mentally. Maybe he can get some coolness passed down from Drake. Ha ha. What a celebrity loser .

Injuries are part of the game. Every team has them. No reason to soil your panties. Get them well for the games that actual matter.

I am not a Manziel fanatic but I like his set of skills (wish I had them). Amazing how his haters expect him to go out and look like Marino, Manning or Elway after 2 pre-season games????
I think he will be pretty good with more experience. Certainly will entertain us once in a while.
He acts no worse than Brett Farve did when he was in his last couple of seasons!!
I cant figure out if his detractors are jealous because he gets so much attention, his family is wealthy, he gets paid a load of $$$ or he is so damn athletic ???

I keep thinking back to when lovie said Verners hammy was no big deal.
August 19th, 2014 at 4:03 pm
No reason to rush Verner back too soon. The team needs him but if he tweeks the hammy again he could be struggling with it all season.

I’m so glad you stayed positive! …. a *toast* ..cheers!

So much worry over injuries! I think this is pretty normal for all teams in the league, and so far (knock on wood) we haven’t had a Baker or Dockett scenario – we’re lucky if you ask me.
As far as worrying about the injured players named above, don’t. On this team, there are only TWO players that will get me freaked out if they’re injured: McCoy & David. That’s it. They’re the only 2 players who are pro bowl talent and complete game changers on our team. Everybody else is somewhat replaceable (yes, even V-Jax). So everybody calm down…

It’s the NFL injuries happen to everyone. Stop bashing guys just for getting banged up Joe not everyone can be Ronde Barber the ironman

Hmmm, is Banks really our #1 CB?

Injuries happen every summer so I prefer walking boots to season ending surgery. There’s no one they can pick up that’s gonna rise to the top of the depth chart in two weeks, Leonard Johnson is the only one that needs replacing.
