“Been Living In That World”
August 18th, 2014The man who first leaked that the Bucs would be running an “up tempo” offense was back at home Saturday night when Tampa Bay’s first-team offense rolled out a taste of it for the home crowd.
Center Evan Dietrich-Smith reminded media today at One Buc Palace that he had “been living in that world” while playing for the Packers, where rhythm and tempo are commonplace for Aaron Rodgers, Jeff Tedford’s’ former student.
Dietrich-Smith said he thought his linemates responded well to the touch of tempo the Bucs’ first-teamers rolled out but said the offense has a ways to go in all aspects.
A week ago Dietrich-Smith said the Bucs only showed about 5 percent of their offense in Jacksonville, but today he bumped up that number to “20 to 25” percent, representing what was shown against Miami. Don’t look for too much more in Buffalo on Saturday, he said, as that runs counter to Lovie Smith’s preseason philosophy.

I really want to see our starting QB Josh McCown orchestrate a long, time consuming drive down the field that results in seven points. We can’t rely on our defense to set up all of our touchdowns for us. McCown has to make things happen.

If the line and receivers don’t do their jobs McCown is toast and we’re in for a very long season. McCown is not going to put this team on his back and carry it anywhere.

Somebody tell Lovie and Jeff its ok to unleash the full offense in the Carolina game…..

Well, okay. They gained 144 yards in the first half playing up tempo. 7 points to show for it. Here’s hoping they’re holding all those points and yards in reserve for the Panthers game.
But part of me doubts it. Part of me thinks this is going to take a while to get going. This could be a rough start to the season before they figure things out. I stand by my earlier prediction of 0-5 or 1-4 to start the season. Gonna be a bumpy ride gents.

And even if they do start 1-4 or 0-5, I’m not going to bail out. I think as the season goes on they’re going to start pulling things together. And by end of year they’ll be playing strong football on both sides of the line.

It’s hard to predict what is going to happen once the regular season starts. It’s totally up in the air. The reason being that so far they have shown so little offense that I’m doubting they will be successful scoring enough points to win many games. I agree the QB play is sorely lacking, the Bucs Achilles heel, imo.

It will be like the Ravens when they used to lose 10-9 or 7-0. Great defense but no offense. I just don’t see us moving the ball against a team like Carolina but the good news is they aren’t going to move the ball against us either. It may just come down to turnovers.

Double top secret probation.

Is it just me or is offseason football starting to sound like dragonball z filler episodes?
OFFENSE NOT AT FULL POWER YET; MUST USE CONSTIPATED ALL CAPS VOICE AND HAVE PULSING TEMPLE VEINS WHILE POWERING UP FOR EXCITEMENT OVER THE NEXT FEW BORING WEEKS

0-5!? I’ll be one sarcastic muthaf’er if the Bucs start 0-5 seeing as how we supposedly have ‘real coaches’ now. I’m not holding my breath for Super Bowl, playoffs, or even a winning season (this year!), but these ‘real coaches’ damn well better do better than 0-5 (unless the Bucs suffer from MRSA again or the starting QB has a meltdown) or the “Fire Lovie!” chatter starts. The team should at least win a couple before the bye week, I think that isn’t expecting too much?

It’s the last game for the starters before the real deal. I’d like to see them come out and win three quarters of football. Fourth would be nice as well to show our backups are not soon to be janitors at my kids elementary school…

Our starters are good enough to win three quarters just like we beat Miami in the first quarter, but you can count on Glennon to blow the game again as he melts down under pressure as usual. Unfortunately we can’t trade him for anything now, after turning down high picks offered for him before the draft. Lovie needs to cut him, promote Kafka,, who is Mr. Clutch the way he scored against Miami, and tell Licht to hire Tebo, who is a proven NFL winner who beat the then Champion Steelers in the playoffs. Then if our OL can’t stop the fierce hits on Josh by Charlotte and the Rams, and Josh goes down, our season isn’t down the drain once again! Remember when I warned Lovie to trade Glennon before the Preseason where everyone would see his incompetence and we would not get anything for him, he didn’t listen and look where we are now–stuck with the albatross sinking us like a dead weight!
