Friday Will Be A Gauge
August 6th, 2014Tampa Bay fans are geeked about the new blood on the Bucs. They are almost clothing-optional-establishment excited over the exploits of Austin Seferian-Jenkins. They are giddy over Lovie.
Want to make Bucs fans fall into a fetal position really quick? Mention the name “Oneil Cousins” and watch a happy grown man suddenly turn despondent.
For as happy as Bucs fans are about the new coaching staff and all the fresh talent on the roster, they are equally worried about the offensive line.
Now, talk to some offensive linemen on the Bucs and they will tell you the hand-wringing over the line is a bit overblown. One way to document if the Carl Nicks-less offensive line is ready for blocking against real opponents will be Friday night, Bucs right tackle Demar Dotson said.
“I think tht this first preseaosn game, it will tell us where we are at. We will gauge it. It is hard to gauge out here on the practice field. But once we get between the lines in a stadium with live bullets, it tells a lot. It wil tell us where we are at. How far we have come and how far we need to go. Everything will be told after we watch film on [at the following practice on] Sunday.”
Dotson doesn’t buy all the gloom and doom projections. But he did suggests the offensive line is a work in progress.
“We are coming [along],” Dotson said. “We’re getting better every day. Trying to work on techniques and assignments. It’s the little things. The devil is in the details. We are trying to make sure those details are taken care of. As long as we do that, we will be a solid group.”

Folks, they don’t have to be ‘The Hogs’. They just have to be good enough to give enough time for short/medium pass patterns to be completed AND a decent running hole every now and then. *IF* they can do that, the Bucs can have a ‘decent’ offense. Next year they can go after O-linemen in FA and high in the draft.
With the size and speed of Buc receivers (WRs and TEs), mid-range passes can turn into DC nightmares.

Dotson is right, its hard to gauge your play when you line up with slappies like adrian slowborn. We all know the last 2 years that Penn had made a career of it, looking good in the pre-season and then giving up the second most sacks of all tackles in the regular season. Can’t wait for Friday to start the “real” evaluation.

Realist, your name is a misnomer. Perhaps The_Clayborn_Hater or The_Obsessive_D1ckhole would be more appropriate.

Not too high in the draft I hope. High 20’s would be really nice.

Realist, Clayborn really didn’t know there was a hole in the condom when he became your daughter’s baby-daddyy. It was an accident, really… lol

Leave it to Unrealist to get his Clayborn dig in.

Realism, what seems real sometimes is often just a figment of your imagination.

My goodness he is pathetic. I’ve actually come to the point of actually enjoying his commentary though. Makes me feel much better about myself.
