iPad Data Reveals Summer Slackers, Workers
August 4th, 2014A typical training camp day for a Tampa Bay Buccaneer starts at 7 a.m. and wraps up about 10 p.m.
There’s eating and meetings and more meetings, and lifting and eating and study and meetings and practice and meetings. This ritual continues for a few weeks until the team leaves its assigned Tampa hotel and gets into a more typical routine.
There is an occasional day off.
But in the spring and summer, before training camp, things are different. Players have extended time off and a much lighter schedule. They also have a team-issued iPad with the playbook and “cut ups” and all kinds of things to study.
And yes, the Bucs are tracking who’s looking at what and how much.
Bucs general manager Jason Licht talked about the precision data available, during a sitdown this evening with the dean of Tampa Bay sports radio, Steve Duemig of WDAE-AM 620,
Licht explained that players can’t just turn on their iPads and surf around a little and go watch, say, a movie in the other room. The Bucs brass knows what’s really going on. Licht said there are tests — unclear whether they’re on the iPad or in person — that serve as the ultimate barometer for how hard a player is working on film.
But Licht made it clear that the some players have impressed with their iPad usage (no names mentioned), and the team as a whole put in a surprising amount of work before training camp.
Of course, winning the iPad championship is kind of like winning the draft or free agency, it’s absolutely meaningless, though still interesting nonetheless.

That’s a good question. This is an intermittent issue only for some mobile-only readers. (If you know how to solve the redirects, you can become a very rich man very quickly.) Joe has ZEE-roe control over them.
Here is how to get around them quickly:
Droid: Hit the back button.
iPad/iPhone: Hit the home buttom then click on the Safari icon. Voila, problem avoided.

I wish people would quit complaining about ads on a FREE site. Especially when it’s arguably the best bucs coverage available.

Soooo after seeing Joe fight with this issue a while, I decided to look to see what we as users can do to limit this “issue” if we are bothered by it.
I recently experienced it on my iphone 5s. I closed my mobile browser completely (by double tapping home button and swiping up on the app). I then went to “Settings” -> “Privacy” -> scroll all the way to bottom to “Advertising” -> click “Reset Advertising Identifier” -> bottom menu comes up up, click “reset” -> turn on “limit ad tracking” -> (I then reset the advertising identifier again as a precaution -> then backed out of settings to save them.
Best thing about this is it does not limit the ads coming from JBF so I still get to support my favorite free Bucs site and its ads so Joe gets some brewski money.
According to apple, the ad tracking will no longer allow advertisers to place an ad based on your information, but will still post ads that have nothing based on what you are doing on the internet. So for all of you seeing the random mail order bride ads, you might get something educational instead.
So far in the last hour I’ve clicked about 20 different links on JBF and restarted my phone a few times and i have yet to have an application pop up, but still see ads and get to view the site flawlessly.
Appreciate your comments. But again, this is an intermittent issue only for mobile readers. Of course, those experiencing get frustrated, but it’s a very tiny percentage and Joe is always investigating.–Joe

it may not be a great predictor of results, but it is probably a great indicator of how bought in your players are. i bet the previous coaching staff had good data on how often Josh Freeman chose to look at film when he didn’t have to
