Gene Deckerhoff Talks To Joe
August 2nd, 2014Tonight, Derrick Brooks becomes the third Tampa Bay Buccaneer to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, joining Lee Roy Selmon and Warren Sapp, Brooks’ close friend since high school.
And possibly no one outside of Brooks’ family, his teammates and coaches know Derrick like a guy who grew up in Jacksonville, who never stepped on a football field with Brooks or against him. That man would be Gene Deckerhoff.
The voice of the Bucs is also the long-time voice of Florida State, where Brooks went to school. Deckerhoff has known Brooks since before Brooks played a snap of ball for the Seminoles.
Of course, in the interview below, Joe talked Bucs football with Deckerhoff, but most of the conversation dealt with Brooks. Deckerhoff has broadcast every game Brooks played in since he graduated from high school.
Well, sort of. Deckerhoff will let Joe’s readers in on a secret — with those beautiful pipes. Oh, those pipes. Just click the red arrow below. Audio player courtesy of Joe’s friends at WDAE-AM 620.

There’s no one like Gene. As Bucs fans we get to enjoy Gene call our games. It is music to my ears when he says, “Touchdown Tampa Bay!!! Fire them Cannons!”
Thanks Gene!

@Harry He will soon enough be calling a lot of plays like, “Gleenon rolls to the right and turns on loose, Jackson is cutting across the field and Glennon hits him in stride and he goes all the way! Touchdown Tampa Bay!!! Fire them Cannons!”.
