The Double-D Dance

Bucs OT Demar Dotson showed his dance moves while scoring a touchdown after a botched snap on a field goal attempt today.

Call it the Double-D Dance. And no, get your heads out of the gutter. This has nothing to do with bouncy, unwieldy objects in a clothing-optional establishment.

It was the Demar Dotson touchdown celebration. It was part-Beyonce, part Deion Sanders and all 6-9, 315 pounds of Bucs tackle Demar Dotson.

The Bucs were working on field goals (no, Joe isn’t charting field goals in practice, sorry) when a snap was bobbled and in this particular house-on-fire moment Dotson, normally the starting offensive right tackle, was an eligible receiver. Instinctively, Dotson got out away from the line of scrimmage and the holder, punter Mike Koenen, threw a nifty pass to Dotson from about the 18.

Dotson did the rest, lumbering toward the end zone when he did a little dance to avoid a tackle and high-stepped into the end zone for the final six yards or so.

A former basketball player at Southern Miss, Dotson swore his celebration was not premeditated in any way.

“I don’t know what that was, man,” the always affable Dotson said with his trademark beaming smile. “Whatever that was, I don’t think I will be able to do that [again.] I don’t want to be too proud or too cocky. They should have thrown it to me last year, you know? Hey, I don’t want to be too proud. But if they would have [given] it to me instead of [Donald] Penn, then Penn would have cried.”

“Everybody has their turn.”

Dotson’s moves were the highlight of practice that even got Lovie Smith chuckling in his post-practice press conference, the most emotion Lovie has yet to show.

“It can be practice or whatever — it can be in a drill — but if a lineman gets the chance to cross the goal line, it’s a big thing,” Lovie said. “Demar is a heck of an athlete. He’ll let you know, ‘Hey, I used to play basketball and I’m not your typical offensive lineman.'”

    Another ‘Dunkaneer’?

  2. Tom Edrington Says:

OK, he can dance, but now can he block like a starter in this league?

  3. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I remember him checking in as an eligible receiver several times when Raheem was coach.

    “Penn would’ve cried.”

    I said it last year!

Dotson should be our eligible TE/OT in goal line situations because of his basketball background!

Now I know why! Penn would have crier!

    hahahhahaa

  6. Mumbles Says:

Tom Edrington formerly of Bleacher Report, stop trying to resurrect your career on JBF. Nothing positive about any Buc! Joe throw this parasite off your website!!

  7. Carls Toe Says:

Hottest posse is the Double D posse! DD will catch a TD like the ole passes to Penn!

Tom Edrington. Attempt at humor while trying to portray seriousness, is not a good look. Even so, because you asked a stupid question. Did you not see any film from last year? Oh no, I get it, you’re trying to say Lovie doesn’t have a clue? That’s got to be it because true fans saw Dotson last year… He made it thru the off season cuts… Either way, your comment was not necessary. It clearly shows that you don’t follow our Bucs close enough.

    Another ‘Dunkaneer’?
    ——————–

Considering he came to Southern Miss as a basketball player, he’s the original Dunkaneer… on this roster anyways.

It’s stories like Dotson’s that provide hope for guys like Edwards, Omameh and Pamphile.

Seems like a great guy too.

Last year Dotson graded out higher than any O-lineman for the Bucs and only a few Bucs graded higher on the whole team. He was a pro-bowl caliber player last year, but was ignored. He wont be ignored next year.
