Training Camp Alert
July 25th, 2014The Lovie Smith era opens wide for fans this evening at One Buc Palace. Practice kicks off at 4:30 p.m. and runs until 7. Admission is free.
Inevitably, Joe will hear voices in the crowd saying where’s Mike Glennon what kind of soft practice is this?
The bummer reality of recent NFL labor laws means teams can’t have two-a-day practices in pads and pound each other into the ground like they did when Tony Dungy and Chucky patrolled the sidelines.
The Bucs, per the current training camp schedule, won’t be able to wear pads and get into hitting until Sunday’s practice. Until then, practice will look like what media gets to see during “OTA days.”
There will be plenty of drills by position groupings, but no contact. Lots of fun offense-vs-defense to watch, but without hitting or any real line play, it’s just a really cool brand of flag football.
Joe’s not trying to discourage anyone from attending training camp today and tomorrow. Hardly. It’s a great time.
But if you’re aching to see Adrian Clayborn fight to win a job and lock horns with Demar Dotson over and over, or you want to see newcomer studs Anthony Collins and Michael Johnson square off, or you’re curious to see if Dashon Goldson has learned how to tackle properly, just don’t waste time wondering why you can’t.

In going postulate that there will be an increase in soft tissue injuries the longer they keep contact to minimum. Periodization is an outdated form of training.

I just went through three days of H3LL with my computer and a virus from google ads (not sure what website caused it, so I’m not pointing fingers). It totally corrupted my hard drive and I had to use ‘Kill Disk’ on it to erase everything, including my restoration partition.
I mention this because coming back to “Training Camp” being here brightened my day!
I hope we get some good reports, as always. The Joes are on top of things. I hope to make it there at some point, but it is a long drive and time from my work, which pretty much consumes 85% of my waking hours. Taking the time to go and then having it cancelled because of rain would be a bummer.
So I’ll rely on JBF to get me through! (and whatever video I can find)
btw, Joe…for some reason, my browser is sometimes freezing when I view a post. Happens nowhere else. I have to use task manager to close firefox and return. Just a heads up.
Doesn’t happen on my tablet, only on my laptop.

I’m sure Collins and Johnson have squared off before. Both played their same positions for the Bungles.

The meager allotment of padded practices allowed by the CBA is a big disadvantage for the Bucs with all the roster turnover this offseason.
It’s not so much as to who will start but who to keep for depth on the roster. These guys almost always wind up playing at some point.

Nicks excused for day 2. Sadly, I have to give up on the guy now. Seems hopeless.

And Joe nobody will be asking about Glennon. It will be very easy to pick out the tall guy with the long neck throwing lasers down the field for TDs!!
