The Countdown: Worst 20 Buccaneers Of The Past 10 Years — No. 9
July 18th, 2014Endless Top-Whatever lists across the Internet got Joe thinking of the Tampa Bay drought since their Super Bowl glory. Not a playoff victory since! And that motivated Joe to rank the 20 worst Buccaneers of the past 10 years.
Serious deliberations went into this at JoeBucsFan.com world headquarters.
Beers bottles were thrown. Game film came out. Arguments ensued. Chants of Sabby from wild interns were quieted by Joe.
In the end, primary consideration was given to expectations combined with on-field performance. Off-field behavior was a factor, and players were not punished for injuries.
No. 9 — tight end Jerramy Stevens (2007-2010)
A defense attorney’s dream, Jerramy Stevens’ criminal history and multiple suspensions while wearing a Bucs uniforms are huge factors in this call.
The guy was an epic sleaze before he arrived in Tampa (famous Stevens rape investigation by the Seattle Times). But Chucky loved him, so Stevens became a Buccaneer. Seriously, Joe could never cheer for Stevens, perhaps the only Tampa Bay player who was impossible to embrace on any level.
On the field, Stevens and his 6-7 frame couldn’t or wouldn’t block, and Chucky never could seem to figure out how to use him. Stevens was suspended by the NFL for banned substances in 2007 and 2008.
What might be most amazing was the next regime, captained by former rockstar general manager Mark Dominik, brought Stevens back in 2009. Joe can only imagine the conversations between Stevens and Kellen Winslow.
Stevens returned in 2010, but got pulled over in Tampa with more than an ounce of weed in his possession midway through the season while driving to the team hotel the night before the Bucs hosted the Rams. Stevens finally was ousted and never returned to the NFL. He’s been living out a life of madness, legal troubles and mayhem (often with fellow headcase/wife and two-time Olympic soccer goalie Hope Solo) ever since.
Funny that Bucs Hall of Fame defensive tackle Warren Sapp said of Stevens during the dope’s days with the Seahawks, “This dude has been a piece of (crap) since he got in this league and it’s never going to change about him … [He’s] just a punk … Something’s got to change about it but he’s going to get his, guaranteed. You wouldn’t want him on your ballclub. You wouldn’t want to be around him.”
A guy who will forever be known in Bucs lore as “The King of Turds.”
No. 10 — Jim Bates No. 11 — Gaines Adams No. 12 — Keydrick Vincent No. 13 — Dre Moore No. 14 — Kevin Ogletree No. 15 – Sean Mahan No. 16 — Da’Quan Bowers No. 17 — Daniel Te’o-Nesheim No. 18 — Kyle Moore No. 19 – Jeremy Trueblood No. 20 – Michael ClaytonThe Countdown: Worst 20 Buccaneers Of The Past 10 Years will run once or twice daily until No. 1 is revealed on Thursday, July 24.

The King of turds ….

Im getting so excited. We’re getting close to announcing J Free on this list! Joe, you can use the info I posted 2 years ago about how Freeman was in the club every night and how he would never have the drive or mental capacity to become anywhere near an elite QB.
If you make Freeman #1 on this list, you will be my hero.

When we get down to number 2 on the list, let’s add up how many of them were either hired, signed, resigned or drafted by Dominik.
Mark Dominik – #1 (Only time he will ever get a #1 ranking)

Poor Hope. If only her brains matched her looks
July 18th, 2014 at 9:19 am
WAIT A MINUTE! this guy dated Hope Solo??
Dam it is true, all the good girls go for bad guys. We do have a habit getting guys who like to puff the magic dragon.
July 18th, 2014 at 9:21 am
@You Go – married him
And he’s already rubbed off on her. She got arrested recently for fighting family members at a gathering. Keeping it classy…..
July 18th, 2014 at 9:23 am
You Go Joe:
He is MARRIED to Hope Solo… that bastage. And apparently she’s taken up his manners since she’s had issues with assaults now too.
July 18th, 2014 at 9:24 am
Not sure Hope Solo is a “good girl.”

Not sure Hope Solo is a “good girl.”
No but she is a “good looking” girl. Always loved the nude athlete magazine features when Hope was involved.

Is this list only naming starters?
Because there are so many that would qualify for the list.
I’m guessing Dexter Jackson WR will be near the top. Benn as well.
July 18th, 2014 at 10:01 am
Lol. Jeremy Stevens.
Gruden salary was so high it cut in to player salaries.
Therefore poor Gruden was left garbage picking.
.
.
“HOPE SOLO’S GOING PSYCHOTIC!”
Still to come:
Derrick Ward?
Freeman?
Eric Wright?
Chris Simms?
Lordy, what a cast of nasties.
July 18th, 2014 at 10:15 am
The dude may be a dirt bag, but we got him off the scrap heap (like most of the free agents we signed in the gruden era) and he was average at worst. Seems like a top 10 spot is too high!

I just read the worst draft pick ever by don banks on SI longform reads, its about the booker reese pick, great read about how Culverhouse was so cheap, and screwd the bucs for years with the pick
July 18th, 2014 at 10:17 am
I still remember that beauty 3rd and 25 completion Garcia connected with him over the middle, nice catch. Tons of talent but dumb as nails.
July 18th, 2014 at 10:37 am
Should’ve been a top 40 list. We don’t have enough room for all the candidates.
July 18th, 2014 at 10:49 am
This list is awesome. Best one I’ve seen all off-season.
Figured Stevens would be in Top 5.
Can’t wait to see the rest of it.
Nice work, Joe.
July 18th, 2014 at 10:54 am
Seriously good riddance!
July 18th, 2014 at 10:55 am
Nice work, Joe.
You are welcome! 🙂 Joe aims to please.

A good point is brought up:
Is this list based strictly on On-the-field performance
or does the turd-factor come into play?
In the end it’s a littel subjective.
a perfect example would be Sgt Winslow.
Good player but big turd.
July 18th, 2014 at 11:10 am
After reading the archived accounts of “the king of turds”, I never realized he was that sh!tty.
July 18th, 2014 at 11:25 am
Yeah this guy seems like he should’ve been a lock for #1. I would never cheer for this guy either. Like the Rays and Lueke. Can’t wait to see the rest of the list Joe.
July 18th, 2014 at 11:34 am
This list is epic on so many levels.
1.) It’s entertaining
2.) It’s informative.
3.) It will motivate future players to stay the hell off of it.
Suck on the Buccaneers and Joe will add you to his list.
July 18th, 2014 at 12:54 pm
Morris Freeman Dominic should all be tied for first.wrap them up in a little bow and flush them down the toilet.
July 18th, 2014 at 12:58 pm
All things to never forgive by the Buccaneers I don’t think I can ever forgive or forget the firing of Jon Gruden.yes we overpay for him but he brought us the Superbowl in by now he would be paid off and on a normal badass coaching level pay scale.he could have been our Bill Belichick.
July 18th, 2014 at 2:32 pm
You know you’re bad when Warren Sapp is calling you a punk.
July 18th, 2014 at 4:34 pm
” Joe can only imagine the conversations between Stevens and Kellen Winslow.”
Great stuff haha

I had occasion to have this guy in my establishment once. Way over-intoxicated. Ripping off his shirt to show off the guns to anybody else’s girls. Fuming at his nostrils at times. Really over the top “thinking he’s the big fish in a little pond” obnoxious, spoiled brat attitude. Hired driver bangin the car stereo to wake the neighbors next to the restaurant parking lot. Then came back way after 2:00, rattling the doors and yelling to be let back in, to the fright of my alone in the building young closing manager.
