Jason Licht, Beer, AC/DC, Cattle Herding & More
June 22nd, 2014A bunch of important Tampa Bay sports types (not including Joe) had their annual gathering last week to apparently high five each other, dine well and pound scotch on the rocks, and give each other awards while dressed in fancy suits and sneakers.
This year, the “Sneaker Soiree,” as it’s known, also featured a roundtable chat with new Bucs general manager Jason Licht, plus Lightning head coach Jon Cooper and Rays skipper Joe Maddon.
Joe’s got the full wacky roundtable below, via WDAE-AM 620 audio.
Licht was his typical regular-guy/self-deprecating/fun-loving self. Forced to identify things like his favorite song and other memories from his youth, Licht did not disappoint.
Enjoy the audio. Keep an ear open for eternal optimist Maddon giving Licht a “nice” when Licht casually and confidently referenced the Bucs winning the NFC South this year.

I think our win total for 2014 increased the minute we hired Lovie Smith. During the Raheem/Schiano years, we lost countless games by one possession and not doing the small things right. I don’t see that happening as much under Lovie.
I’m not a huge fan of AC/DC but I would like to see them keep touring. I’ve actually never seen them before. Would be nice them at least once.

Licht is awesome. Not only does he have a nice background rooted in player evaluation on winning teams, he’s a great guy.

[Don’t test Joe. — Joe] He did reference the “joes” from joebucsfan. About how one likes soccer and one does not. His explanations of the nuances of the clock and how it works during a soccer game was very informative. [See above. — Joe]
