What Will The Defense Look Like?
June 21st, 2014Of course, many Bucs fans are clamoring to know what the offense will look like. The Bucs have kept the shroud covering the offense tightly zipped. But, what about the defense?
Bucs cornerback Alterraun Verner, by way of the “Custodian of Canton,” eye-RAH! Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune, explained the defense is all about turnovers.
“Not only is Coach [Lovie] Smith defensive-minded, but he’s a big fan of getting the ball back for the offense — and that’s what I’m all about,’’ Verner said. “I’m disappointed in any game where I don’t find a way to hit the football.’’
This will be good to know. The nucleus of a turnover machine is already in place. Under then-Bucs commander Greg Schiano, the Bucs finished fifth in the NFL in takeaways. That’s damn good. But it also shows how pitiful the Bucs offense was last year that even with short fields, it couldn’t take advantage. The results were shameful.
So once again, all eyes go back to Bucs offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford. If the offense can’t take advantage of turnovers, then takeaways become trivial.

I’m really happy to have Verner in the defensive backfield. This guy will play smart and help the Bucs to get those turnovers. The Bucs are counting on his experience and finesse.

GMC,LVD,ATV the Hawk & Red Barron… Giving the ball to ME13,VJ,ASJ & the Dougernaut…..should produce some points.

I agree. I think he has alot of Rhonde Barber’s traits, which is awesome.

The nicknames all sound great but that didn’t produce wins last year either so we’ll see. I’m at least far more optimistic about this season though because I have confidence in the coaching and the QB.

depends on the offensive 3rd down conversation rate…

You are right on RastaMon, Josh will keep the chains moving, but Glennon had one of the worst third down conversion rates in the NFL last year, so hopefully he will be traded by then.

Way too many times our defense disappeared with the game on the line. In fact the offense put us in a position to win at least 3 more games that the defense gave up the winning score in the last waning moments. Don’t believe me, go back and watch the end of those games. Yes, the offense struggled at times but the defense was just as guilty. We should have been 7 – 9, or 8 – 8.
week 1 Jets last 2 minutes
week 2 Saints last 2 minutes
week 4 Cardinals last 2 minutes
week 7 falcons seemed to score at will without White and Jones
week 9 Seahawks destroyed our defense in second half comeback
week 17 defense was totally annihilated and embarrassed by the Saints *the game that cost Schiano his job.

Just remember that the big dog? says turnover are “completely” random. So Lovie and his guys are obviously just wasting their time!

That sounds like Duemik lost his bet that weekend and was looking for an excuse to make him feel better. I’ve heard him say that in a betting context before but he usually contradicts himself by saying you can work on ball security on offense and ways to take the ball away on defense to increase your chances of a better give away/take away ratio.

@Owlykat: Your bias against A SECOND YEAR PLAYER is ridiculous. I know for a fact that you can’t see the future, so why don’t you stop acting as though you are certain MG8 will flop. Get a grip. The HC & GM have decided to keep him on the roster. That’s ALL you need to know. Be a fan. Root for the players that we have, don’t just try to be right. Trust the organization. I know that’s a difficult prospect since late 2008, but they know more than you do. Bank on it.

I like the Dougernaut nickname!
Much more appropriate than having something to do with a hamster. A cringe worthy reference that reminds me of gossip stories about a rodent + some celebrity’s bodily orifice = sexual something or other.

At the very least we absolutely cannot be worse on offense then we were last year

Owlykat,
Mike Glennon has a cannon and is the QB of the future.
Thanks for playing! 🙂

Every defense wants turnovers!
There is no 7%$+’@!$ H in Ronde!

SteveK, if Glennon has such a Cannon, explain why he averaged under 50 mph on his passes at his combine which was exceeded by most of the hopefuls at QB in his class. Even Kafka was in the 50s in his combine beating Glennon’s average by 3 mph. And your fellow mob dreamer Pireatec has yet to realize Lovie also bragged on Reavis and Williams but didn’t hesitate to cut both of them either. Glennon better hope that Josh doesn’t go down hurt in preseason, because he had the lowest QB rating for playing under pressure last year and he will whither under Charlotte and the Rams pass rush and will be cut after the third loss in a row. A lot of fans last year didn’t like what I predicted about loser Schiano before the first game but how did that turn out? Just notice Lovie did not call Glennon the Buc’s Franchise QB of the future! The proof is in the pudding, but when Glennon drowns in it don’t say I didn’t warn you.

owlykat. You don’t know sheet.

First, it’s Piratic. Second, don’t EVER label me. I have made it a point to steer clear of the media-driven QB debate. It does nothing but splinter the fan base. I root for the flag, not the player.
Third, I AM fully aware of our HC’s comments about our former CB & WR, thank you very much. The fact remains that MG8 HASN’T been cut. The other players you mentioned HAVE been cut, and were cut rather quickly.
And finally, do you really believe that MG8 is in any way intimidated enough to NOT want to play?! And you’re even predicting WHEN he’ll be cut!! Again, you are being ridiculous! Stop acting like a child.

Keeping it real. This is the best offense the BUCS ever had by far. And yes Glennon will be gone by 2015. Even if Josh gets hurt Glennon won’t be in a BUCS uniform next year. Bucs are a much better team all around this year. It’s going to be great in Tampa Bay. ” GO BUCCANEERS “
