Davin Joseph Just Wants To Have Fun
June 20th, 2014It seems the fallout from the era of former Bucs commander Greg Schiano continues. This time, it is coming from roasting St. Louis.
The Rams are completing their final practices before the team’s summer siesta this week and Rams coach Jeff Fisher was queried about his new guard Davin Joseph, formerly captain of the Bucs.
Joseph, drafted by Tampa Bay 23rd overall in 2006, suffered an ugly knee injury in the 2012 preseason and never really covered. He was cut by the Bucs in March.
Fisher claimed he had been after Joseph since he was released and clearly stated Joseph, currently, was added to the Rams roster for depth. But it is what he said about Joseph’s goals that invokes Schiano, at least is does to Joe, via the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
“We had Davin in, in the middle of free agency, actually the beginning of free agency,” Fisher said. “We really liked the visit, was really excited about what we thought he could do for us from a depth standpoint and all that stuff. We gave him an opportunity to come in and compete, but Davin, I think, is at a point now where you know he just wants to have fun. We hit it off well, so we decided to wait until after the draft and we got things put together.”
So, Joseph just wants to have fun? He just wants to have fun playing football? So that means he grew weary of the toes-on-the-line mentality of Schiano and didn’t want to put himself in yet another Marine boot camp football program?
Or does this mean Fisher is undisciplined? Joe is going to guess this was a swipe at Schiano.

I call BS on the Rams. If they (Fisher) wanted Joseph so bad, why did’t they sign him on the spot when they intially had him in for a visit.

Didn’t he have enough fun with Rah regime?

Sure, Joseph is having a ball now. Happens to every guy that has his pay cut from 6mil/yr to 1.75mil/yr. He must be dancing in the street! Next story please!

Winning makes any sport more “fun.” It has been and will always be that way. Winning makes just about any endeavor more “fun” because it is the ultimate payoff for hard work, assuming that there is hard work going on.
Losing on a consistent basis makes it tough for any player, especially if they come from a winning college program to a long-losing NFL program.
Don’t you think?

Davin saw some very interesting years (not in a good way) as a Buc. Can’t blame him to want steadier waters on a team certainly on the up and up.

Not a swipe at anyone. He is at the end of his career and wants to have fun playing a game he loves. Not much deeper than that…

Fisher won’t be having fun when he sees how bad Joseph blocks…..

Agree DallasBuc. Sometimes there are no monsters in the closet regardless of how bad we want to see them.

Agree with DallasBuc, I wish him the best, but I don’t think he’s a quality starter any longer. If he can make the Rams, well done.

Best of luck to him, until game day against the Bucs.

Doesn’t mean he is weary of Schiano coaching….just want to have fun could mean just that…I think at the end of most player’s careers….that is the case. THey want to enjoy every last minute of the sport they love.

Joe watch your step or you will trip on that mountain of a molehill.

Shouldn’t he be having fun with all the cash the Rockstar gave him?

I call bullspit.
Fisher just wanted to “wait until after the draft” because they wanted Joseph to have fun?
No.
They were targeting a player, didn’t get him and were grateful Joseph was still out there.

^^Fisher didn’t say that he waited until after the draft so that Joseph could have fun. He waited until after the draft to sign Joseph if he was still available and they still needed him. Him wanting to have fun is unrelated to the draft. Not tough stuff here guys…certainly not controversial!

Came here to agree with @DallasBuc. Nothing to see here folks.

Pretty sure no-one likes Schiano but I don’t know what that statement had to do with him.

Glad to hear Davin landed on a team and is having fun, but the conclusion based on Fisher’s statement feels like quite the strrreeeeettttttch

Not to mention that 1.75 mill a year is peanuts. Even for a rich guy.
