Licht: No Playoffs Equals Failure

There were a few times Joe nearly had a seizure last season, and this September moment was one of them, when Greg Schiano proclaimed he would need more than two years to load up his roster properly.
That kind of thought process is a foreign language to Bucs general manager Jason Licht.
Speaking to ESPN blogger Pat Yasinskas last week, Licht explained that a Chiefs-like turnaround is expected.
Licht was with Arizona last season when the Cardinals went 10-6 but didn’t make the playoffs.
“We made some strides and it seemed like people wanted to throw a parade for us, but the fact of the matter is we failed because we didn’t make the playoffs,’’ Licht said. “Being 10-6 would be great for the Bucs this year, but the goal is making it to the dance. If we had any other goal, I’d be very upset.’’
Joe loves the mindset. Schiano’s always-a-one-game-season mindset had a very high school feel to it. It’s ok to have high goals and expectations. A lot of good can come from that. The “Race To 10” mantra under Raheem Morris is a great example.
One thing Joe gleaned from his many chats with Darrelle Revis was that Revis was always thinking about the playoffs, whether it was how he was preparing his body, or the context in which he would answer questions; it was always with an eye on performing in January.
It’s great to have leadership that brings that same mentality. Win now.

Playoffs are the goal. Thnk goodness.
Can’t wait to see the roster shakeups next year when we clear damn near 20 million from Nicks and Goldson’s guaranteed money expiring.
Extend gmc, and sign a dn good free agent. Looking forward to the new Bucs, craptastic uniforms and all.

Now that John Manziel and his dry humping an inflatable swan antics has been relegated to Joe’s “Morning Cup of Joe”, it seems the seal clubbing of Greg Schiano has now taken precedent in a great many articles.

I love the attitude, but we haven’t had our first game yet. At this point they all talk of how great things are going to be bc there have not been any setbacks they are responsible for. If you recall, Schiano claimed to be in a win now mode in his first year, not so much in his second one. Don’t get me wrong, I am not being negative Nancy, I love L&L, just being real.
Somewhat still on topic, did you see how the USA soccer coach said they have no chance at this point? I mean WTF? I used to coach and I have NEVER heard a coach say that about his team, NEVER! “We are the underdogs”, etc., but NEVER a complete takeaway. Crazy

Its one thing to hang your hat on a coach that has a winning record and reached the big dance.
Quite another to talk big with a college coach from the Big East, who never even won his conference.

If the Bucs win ten games I am going to be happy, but I am glad to hear that Licht is aiming for the playoffs! L & L have already brought a new era to Buc Ball. If they play their cards right this can be the start of a dynasty.

I love this guy, every coach and player on this team should have this mindset. IIts been such a breath of fresh air this offseason, I think the reason shiano procrastinated about winning and the way our roster was set up, was because he was trying too hide his short comings as a coach.

I’ve got high hopes, but the NFC is a gauntlet; as tough as I’ve ever seen. We really need to win our first two to get a good jump on the division and conference. Nice to see a regime that doesn’t tell us to be patient, and it could inject some fire back unto the fan base.

The actual goal for this season is to win the Superbowl, not just make the playoffs… Once you reach playoffs, the goal changes to winning the whole damn thing. And I fully believe that we have the talent and coaching to do make it happen.

Umm, I’ve been a fan since 1976, so the only rule I can pass onto the younger and newer fan is? Patients is a virtue my friend! But every-now and then we do have our day in the sun! I do feel we’re headed there with L&L but to think we can turn this ship around in one year might be to much to ask? But with that said, I do love the fact that he said it. it only means they’re not settling for anything less! That means it’s a bottom-line for all of them! All I can say since 1976 is, GO BUCS…

I look at the old uniforms now….and I’m glad they made the switch. The helmets ALL DAY LONG look fantastic when compared to the older style pewters. Big logo looks MEAN!!! Helmet design is baddass. Uniforms themselves I admit look a little like a fast food chain or a nascar sprint car but hey it’s new and I like em!!! Can’t wait to see those things flying around on the field as a TOP 5 DEFENSE BABY!!!WHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

We have a shot, as long as McCown is behind Center.
His mobility will compensate for a bad O-line.
If he goes down with injury, we will look just like last year.
And that would be a Loooong season!
After watching “the Statue” getting smashed, behind the one unit on the team that may have gotten worse at several spots, we’ll all be crying that we didn’t draft a QB.
Not drafting Manzeil will suddenly look like the worst screw up in Buc History, by the Time Glennon is recording his 6th straight “5 plus sack games”

That’s why you don’t hire mediocre coaches from a mediocre conference that beat their own chest about turning around a crappy team that never even won the big east.

Pretty hard for a coach (Schiano) who has never won in this league to be making bold statements without a few eyes rolling. Better to let it just happen and allow the credibility to develop on its’ own. Raheem lost me when he became a “playa”. Schiano lost me after the kneel-down play he believed was an innovation. On the other hand, Lovie exudes a quiet confidence that is deafening. There’s not a big difference in talent between teams. Confidence in the plan goes a long way in player’s willingness to execute it. This year just feels better. Having been a fan since 1976 like Go Bucs, I have developed patience, even if doing so came close to making me a patient in a metal ward.
