Meeting The Hero
May 17th, 2014When we were all little, we looked up to at least one NFL player and wanted to be him in some way, shape or form. For some odd reason, Joe idolized Conrad Dobler.
Mike Evans is no different. The basketball-turned-football star and now freshly drafted Bucs wide receiver had football heroes, too. And strangely, one is his teammate now.
“I was a big Vincent Jackson fan in high school and college and it’s great to team up with him and play with him and learn from him.” Evans said. “It’s been great so far.”
Joe isn’t sure what Jackson has told Evans about life in the NFL, but Joe’s going to guess Jackson never taught Evans how to make this catch.
“I just want to learn the offense as fast as possible and get caught up to speed with the rest of the guys,” Evans said about working with the Bucs veterans most of the week. “Play fast, that’s what they told me. Play fast and that’s what I did at [Texas] A&M. That is what I am trying to do.”
So far in his very brief NFL career, one thing has surprised Evans: practice.
“It is not what I expected,” Evans said. “I expected it to be a lot of guys running around with their heads cut off and loud. It’s real chill.”

I think its great ME13 has a mentor that he idolized. It makes up for the somewhat lack of experience of our recievers coach.
Evans has a chance to be one of our best draft picks ever.

Watching the interview video with Evans on the main Bucs site….
I want to know who the cheap bastard is using a iPhone to record a interview?
Joe, was that you? You would think with all the ads on this site you might be able to afford a decent audio recorder.
That photo sequence of the catch he made was nice. Going to be a long summer.

Boy I sure miss Mike Williams – not!

Strange that people are still sh*tting on mike Williams for getting stabbed. Especially since this article has nothing to do with him.

Evans has that Swag we were missing. If anyone starts talking trash, Evans will throw it right back at him! Maybe Sapp was the last Buc with serious Swag.

I always liked Conrad Dobler too. My favorite OL of all time. On defense I liked Bill Romanowski. Bucs need 11 of each.

Romanowski was fricking animal. Saw him once when he was with Denver. Man the guy even scared me and I sure as hell wasn’t playing.
