Alley-Oop To Mike Evans

Joe’s words can’t do this justice, but Mike Evans simply dropped every jaw at Bucs rookie minicamp this afternoon with a catch that made Joe understand why legendary talent evaluator Gil Brandt said Evans has the best hands he’s seen since Calvin Johnson.
Evans was running a 20-yard seam route from the right side in 7-on-7 work, and a high pass came from linguini-armed quarterback Brett Smith of Wyoming.
The Bucs’ first-round draft pick, Mr. Mike Evans, raised his right mitt and gave a quick-twitch jump in stride and hauled in the pass with one hand and kept on running. What was most stunning was Evans’ left hand never came up. It stayed down to keep his balance — one part ballet dancer, one part ferocious bear, two parts Dominique Wilkins catching and slamming an alley-oop.
Yeah, it was just a brief moment against low-grade defense, but it was a glimpse of the “Dunkaneers” Jason Licht referred to last weekend.

Cool to see Evans is already wowing everyone. There’s no doubt the guy is extremely talented. He is imo the best pick we could have made with that 7th overall draft choice. The only thing that really concerned me with him was that he had a tendency to push off a little to much in college, but I dont think it is really anything to lose sleep over. It might even be corrected with better route running. Go get em Evans.

The offense is gonna be fun to watch this season!! Smith sounds 4th Tier, if there is anything lower than 3rd Tier. Then again throwing high is better than short and in the ground. 😉

Thus is why I’ve wanted this guy for months. I can’t friggin wait. With a 1/2 way decent o-line I could sit back there and throw jump balls myself all game long.
Josh McCown should kiss L&L on their foreheads every day if this works out and I think it will.

For those worried about the running game and the o-line. I’m not worried at all. Perhaps the pass is going to set up the run instead of the other way around for once.
Plus ASJ and Evans look like they could be outstanding blockers as well, there’s lots of beef on those 2 guys. This is going to work everyone. Lovie is going to fix our team for us. I can feel it!

Wait a minute, I’m just thinking back and I thought I remember Licht saying that there was franchise QB in the later rounds of this draft and its someone that nobody is expecting. Are we to believe its Brett Smith, or did we miss our chance at him? or better yet, was the whole thing just BS?

He flat out knows how to attack and catch the football. And he’s a physical runner after the catch. Good pick. If he can be coach-able then he can blossom into an elite receiver.

Andrew 1 …but did Licht follow that statement up with :” and we plan on drafting him?”
I don’t recall that he did. Perhaps that QB was already taken as well. Perhaps the one he saw was Bortles.

Licht said he saw a franchise QB in this draft, but it’s not the QB everyone is thinking or talking about. I believe it was long those lines. I don’t think he said “later in the draft”. I could be wrong though.

Yea I dont remember the exact wording, but it sounded like he was talking about someone that wasn’t on anyones radar. We probably will never know who he was taking about, but you gotta think that if they say a franchise QB that they would have taken him.

I told you guys things might change after the draft, because I really do like Evans a lot.

Yes, I think better times are here. I haven’t agreed with all choices but I now see the bigger picture after this draft. Those earlier choices now make much sense. “It’s all right” as my parrot would say.

Last season Panthers at Bucs going inot the game the Bucs are 0-7 and I know damn well the Panthers are going to roll my team over. Cam was already in the middle of his hot streak coming into that game.
It’s a Thursday nighter. So I have a special sign made up that I thought would represent every Buc fan out there. Short and sweet 2 words.
I would wait until it was more than apparent that our team was going to lose yet again and go 0-8. Then I’m unraveling the sign.
Page fumbles the kick return on the other side of the field from where I was sitting. Carolina pounces on it and it’s like the start of the 4th qtr.
I don’t even see what yard line it’s on but the sign is coming out.
I unravel it and raise it to the fans. The crowd cheers and snaps picture after picture of it. So I said the hell with it me and the wife left our seats and walked around the stadium taking pictures with about 200 or so Buc fans here and there for the entire 4th quarter. It was fun. Just the appreciation that I got for that sign for everyone that was there that night was outrageous fun.
People called out the name hey Sapp (the jersey I had on) turn around and I see about 5-6 smart phones pointed at me. It was hilarious.
The best part of it though was I got to hold it over the tunnel as every player went top the locker room. I called to Schiano to look up as loud as I could. I was looking at another player running by when my wife said Schiano just looked up at your sign honey. I looked down and he was just looking away from it.
I was venting. Oh here’s the picture of me and the sign one more time since I didn’t tell anyone what the sign said on it during my entire story.

That’s the short version of the story. Damn. Needless to say I got my picture taken with lots of hotties, with me and that sign more times than Johnny “pull” Manziel. It was driving my wife crazy for the entire 4th quarter.

stangassman… nobody said anything about telling you about Evans. I just said I really wanted them to take him. So it would depend on the outcome of the draft whether or not I could scrap myself up off the floor from last season.
