“We Want To Win The Whole Thing”
May 15th, 2014A giddy Bucs general manager Jason Licht appeared on NFL Network last night, fresh off a truly offensive draft class this past weekend (it depresses Joe to type this, but he knows if he doesn’t, the humorless, thin-skinned, easily-offended, reading-impaired will totally freak out: offensive = all offensive players picked).
Licht sort of celebrated the weekend and discussed the thinking behind selections — and selections that were not made.
Near the end of this video, NFL Network host Charles Davis asked Licht if the Bucs were going to make a run for the NFC South title, which seems to change hands each year. Licht appeared disinterested in the NFC South title and spoke of more grandiose goals.
“I said back at the owners meetings that we are not asking the fans to be patient,” Licht said. “So we are going for it all. We want to win the whole thing this year.”

Love this GM!! No one ever talks about his charisma and all time personality.
May 15th, 2014 at 9:14 am
Joe- don’t let the b******s get you down. Write what you write. There’s a reason your site is the most popular. Part of it is the great mix of opinions of your readers. I left for a while cause I don’t like the mobile experience, but no other site is as entertaining to read. Do your thing. Go bucs!
May 15th, 2014 at 9:16 am
In my mind, even if every single 2014 draft pick fails long term, we still upgraded the GM position this offseason.
May 15th, 2014 at 9:17 am
Should be the goal of every NFL franchise. This Licht guy is a very likable dude, unless you’re a local sports figure questioning him about his future franchise QB
May 15th, 2014 at 9:29 am
10-6. Tough schedule, but with this talent and this coaching I do not see how this is not reachable.

…the humorless, thin-skinned, easily-offended, reading-impaired…”
Must be talking about the MGM….
May 15th, 2014 at 9:39 am
Joseph. That’s about the dumbest post I’ve seen in a while. So if our new GM misses on every pick we upgraded. Put the pipe down and back away from the table.
May 15th, 2014 at 9:40 am
tsk tsk tsk.
Joe, you disappoint me. Rule number 1, don’t feed the trolls. The regular readers of your site know and understand what you mean without you having to explain yourself at every whim. Please, I beg you, please don’t feed in to the negativity. A joke/pun isn’t as good if you have to explain it.
On topic:
Licht is becoming more and more likable by the day. Although I have no problem with GMs and HCs talking about wanting to win the division, it’s a nice reprieve to hear one stick by his previous statements and aim for the top each and every time…especially when his reasoning was, “the fans deserve it.”
My biggest fear (regardless of the QB) is that if Tedford comes out and absolutely lights it up, he could be in line for some interviews.
I’m hoping that he and Lovie have some sort of handshake agreement in that he’ll stay here for the duration of his 2 year contract and at the end of that he’ll either get a raise for his great work or he’ll be fired for his ineptitude at the pro level. Although I’d rather not have Glennon as our “QB of the future,” it goes without saying that the constant change at the OC position does not bode well for ANY young QB (yes, including the QB you all love to hate).
In a perfect world, Tedford would have realized that he’d rather be a highly paid OC for the next [insert length of Lovies time here in Tampa here] years rather than be a HC again…a job in which he said was far more stressful and relished in the fact that he would be allowed to only focus on the offense again.

Dynasty show be the goal!
Go Bucs!!!

Yea, and we are undefeated with L&L. People, a little perspective. We are not even in training camp yet. I love L&L, but (as Lovie himself would say) we were 4-12 last year. Our Oline is a huge question mark. Our OC and QB coach have never coached in the NFL and the WR coach has only had a cup of coffee while with an NFL team. I love you optimism, but just keep it real.

Except for the dubious evaluation of the “cannon”, these guys have done a masterful job this off season.
It has been a bit of a shock to the system watching true professionals at the controls.
If we get lucky and McCown can come close to matching his performance last year, we really got something going.

I heard Harry is already sportin’ a Browns jersey.

Joe, if you posted stuff everyone liked, I wouldn’t read you. It’d be a boring, dull, vapid little site with no character. Even when I think you’re nuts, I’m entertained.
Licht will either be a smashing success or a glorious failure as a GM. I personally admire a guy who shoves all his chips into the game. Sincerely hoping his talk is going to be backed up in team performance.

Joe,
What happened to the audio rebroadcast of the Show with big dog this week?Did I miss the link?
Thanks guys
May 15th, 2014 at 10:04 am
@Lightning, please, that one was below the belt. lol
May 15th, 2014 at 10:04 am
^^^
But will it be a Shaw, Manziel, or starting QB Hoyer jersey?
May 15th, 2014 at 10:08 am
Winning the Lombardi is long odds.
But a winning season and a playoff berth is not far fetched. The NFL as of late has many examples of going from the Outhouse to the Penthouse in one season.
Me personally …
8-8 I’d be OK with it, but want more.
9-7 Winning season. A good start
10-6 or better I would have to pinch myself
But honestly what is the GM going to say? “Our plans this season is to get to .500 football and we stop right there”
May 15th, 2014 at 10:10 am
Sad that Joe has to spell things out in such an obvious way so the simple-minded can understand it. But I guess it’s par for the course in the sports world, where the fan base isn’t exactly known for its intelligence.
May 15th, 2014 at 10:14 am
@Toes,
I am having a Bucs jersey made with Manziels name on the back. I can’t leave my Bucs!
May 15th, 2014 at 10:20 am
Doesn’t seem like the type to run and hide like the rock always did when his team was in one of his famous losing streaks.
Which was every year but one.
May 15th, 2014 at 10:22 am
Just got uploaded this morning. Joe will embed it later today, maybe early evening.
May 15th, 2014 at 10:25 am
@ Harry
I can appreciate a healthy QB obsession as well 🙂
May 15th, 2014 at 10:30 am
Joe were you down when you wrote this and just wanted some pick me ups? Just think of favorite thought, yes her, and that should pick ALL of you up.
It is refreshing to hear a GM say the team’s goal is the big one.
I would buy you a drink if I knew where to find you.
May 15th, 2014 at 10:32 am
If you have any other ultimate goal than winning the Super Bowl, then YOU’RE DOING IT WRONG!
May 15th, 2014 at 10:43 am
Licht reminds me of when I get on an elevator, before I press a button I look at everyone inside and say “Are you ready to take this $h!+ to a whole new level?”
May 15th, 2014 at 10:46 am
Mort totally agree and like to hear it from the GM to have that attitude permeate through one buc, great attitude, and its like joes attutude on JF and taking a gamble and the draft is a gamble and Joe wanted JF and is not a huge fan of MG8, like confidence on this site and with the bucs as a whole, can’t wait for the season Im looking at 11 wins this year
May 15th, 2014 at 10:49 am
@ Jon I think what he was referring to is by “upgrading” he means not having a GM who will overpay for a cornerback while at the same time giving away two high picks in a draft where there are clear voids in the positional personnel. Imagine if the Bucs kept their pick and drafted Sheldon Richardson to pair him alongside Gerald McCoy? that would be a pretty scary combo as opposed to not having a 1st round pick in 2014 and having to fork over more cash a year later to fix the same lines. I liked Dominik don’t get me wrong, but the man couldn’t draft and overpaid for players who he thought would be an immediate fix to a decade long problem of incompetence.
May 15th, 2014 at 10:55 am
As we’ve just seen, Licht and Smith know talent. I have complete faith in them. Go Bucs 2014 Superbowl Champs.
May 15th, 2014 at 10:56 am
I’ll tell you one thing. I’m going to be at that opening game. If the Bucs pull off a victory verse the Panthers, I’ll start a Lovie chant in my section towards the end of the game. Lovie Lovie Lovie!
May 15th, 2014 at 11:12 am
Taking the Bucs to the playoffs or even a winning season in his first year, would be ultimate redemption for the suffering I went through last season.
Lovie Smith would instantly become my hero.
May 15th, 2014 at 11:13 am
This Licht fellow is very likable. With Lovie and the guys we have on the field we may have a winning team for numerous seasons to come. I will be so stoked. Just hope McCown doesn’t slow us down. That guy used to get boo’d off the field when he was with the Raiders.
May 15th, 2014 at 11:27 am
I’m glad he’s very optimistic. While I absolutely believe the Bucs are better than last year, the NFC is just so brutal that making the playoffs is so much more difficult than the AFC. 10 wins might not be enough, it hasn’t been in 2 of the past 4 years. But if the offense can hit top 15 then with the likely top 10 defense, playoffs could happen.
May 15th, 2014 at 11:28 am
If he does win the Division this year, please don’t run the man out of town if we don’t make it by the first round.
Speaking to the shareholders.
May 15th, 2014 at 11:37 am
The schedule is pretty easy this year if you look at it, there are big named teams that are consistently very good but they are down teams like Pittsburgh, Washington, and Baltimore, only game on there that I am 50/50 on is the Baltimore one and they are going through a bunch of turmoil off the field. If they can get to 3-3 in the division this year and the stat that every year since the division was formed there has been a new champ bodes well for the bucs
May 15th, 2014 at 11:56 am
One good thing is that with losing/releasing all of their WRs this off season, the little Carolina puddy tats are going to struggle in the passing game this year.
May 15th, 2014 at 12:00 pm
L&L have upgraded the talent on this roster SIGNIFICANTLY. The amateurs are gone from the coaching staff and front office. The pill-popping head cases and rappers are gone from the locker room. The roster looks solid and full of playmakers going into training camp. Competition at every position. Can’t wait for the pre-season!
May 15th, 2014 at 12:23 pm
Just write joe! I check this site daily and I’m never disappointed.
May 15th, 2014 at 1:55 pm
Poor Joe, he needs write each post twice. Once regular, one Decaf/handicapped friendly.
Meybe you could start a second site for your” Special” lil posters
Could call it “JoeGlennonfan”. You could probably write it in Crayon, and reverse the “Es” and “Rs”
Sadly- I’ll bet it gets more hits than this site. This is an extraordinary body of evidence to that effect.

Joseph Mamma Says
“In my mind, even if every single 2014 draft pick fails long term, we still upgraded the GM position this offseason.”
With all due respect, that makes no sense at all.

Eric Said:
“If we get lucky and McCown can come close to matching his performance last year, we really got something going.”
If he doesn’t then the “Cannon” will step in. I like it.

Viva La Cannon!
