Licht Explains Glennon Trade Chatter
May 14th, 2014A representative of a Bucs media outlet went on local radio and “guaranteed” backup quarterback Mike Glennon would be dealt during the weekend of the draft. National media types were abuzz about where Glennon may end up and what the Bucs could get in return.
Even Joe thought it was a good bet Glennon would be traded for a coveted draft pick.
That didn’t happen, as the Bucs seemingly believe they have something in Glennon.
Yes, teams did try to trade for him. Bucs general manager Jason Licht explained to Joe’s good friend, the dean of Tampa Bay sports radio, “The Big Dog” of WDAE-AM this week, that trade talks didn’t get very far at all.
“We never got to the point where we discussed draft picks,” Licht said of NFL teams’ inquiries. “We fielded several calls and had several conversations and those conversations would end when I said we wanted to go with Mike Glennon on our roster moving forward.”
On face value, it would be easy to say no one blew Licht’s doors off with an offer he couldn’t refuse. That’s fair. Joe has a hard time believing any reserve player wouldn’t be moved if a team offered the sun and the moon for him. Especially to a team that craved draft picks.
Now Joe has a friend who works for an NFL broadcast network with a major sports news department. Joe’s contact claims he heard many teams called Licht about Glennon’s services, including teams that would have sent the Bucs multiple picks and/or players. These teams liked Glennon more than the quarterbacks in the draft.
Joe can see the Mike Glennon Mob spilling their coffees on their keyboards as they jump up and down with glee reading that last paragraph. But remember: Dave Wannstedt once thought Rick Mirer was worth the 13th overall pick in the draft, too.
May 14th, 2014 at 7:14 am
Screw Rick Meier, wasn’t Josh Freeman worth a top 20 pick, and Dominick traded up for him.
Too bad we couldn’t get a ham sammich for him last year.
Too bad Freeman’s agent spilled the beans and screwed over our 2013 season.
Thank you Josh Freeman, you’re trash.
Hahaha and the Vikings gave him 3 million for more of the same.
May 14th, 2014 at 7:18 am
You just don’t give up and hate it when your wrong.you and the big dog knows no more than us about football or you would be a coach.
Actually, Joe has no problem being wrong and is wrong several times a year. –Joe
May 14th, 2014 at 7:23 am
I hope Mike Glennon is the answer but I have doubts.
May 14th, 2014 at 7:26 am
You mad, bro?
May 14th, 2014 at 7:27 am
The Dave Wannstedt reference is irrelevant being that Glennon already has a productive season in the NFL under his belt. You have to put down more than one good season in to be proven but what Glennon did last year with practically a scab team was nothing short of impressive. When a guy with 12 games puts up 19 td and 9 int with a XFL caliber team of 3 stringers surrounding him (V Jax being the exception) I’m impressed.
May 14th, 2014 at 7:31 am
The last paragraph was another unnecessary shot at Glennon. If we are going to use examples non Buc’s team’s drafts like Rick Meier, how about an example like another underrated third round non stat friendly QB Russell Wilson won the Superbowl in his 3rd year. And he fought off newly signed (to be the starter) Matt Flynn to win the job.
These gratuitous Glennon shots are getting tiring.
Lot of very sensitive types today. Must be the cloudy weather leading to illusions.–Joe

This is just what I needed…..better than a cup of coffee….dunkin’ doughnut….OJ….bloody mary…..or morning delight….a Glennon article to start my day!!!! Wow….how wonderful!!!
I know, “Joe writes about what interests him”….
Anyway….Hats off to Joe….I know it pains him somewhat to write that other teams covet Glennon and the Bucs like their “bird in the hand” even though some think he’s Big Bird.
May 14th, 2014 at 7:34 am
We are not “spilling our coffee on our keyboards and jumping up and down with Glee” as we have been telling you this for over the last 2 months. And it was more that the MGM, but others as well that said this QB class was no upgrade over MG8.
also, way to back down from your “guarantee” that Glennon would be traded. Slick way to try and now say ” it was a good bet”. Stand by your statements Joe!!!!
Good luck finding where Joe “guaranteed” a Glennon trade. It didn’t happen. –Joe
May 14th, 2014 at 7:38 am
Groundhog Day.
May 14th, 2014 at 7:40 am
Nooooo….don’t stand by your statement, Joe. Admit you were wrong. It makes you both more credible and more of a man. 😉
Joe stands by all his statements. –Joe

This is turning into a very one-note website. It’s like ESPN and Tim Tebow. What did someone say about our backup quarterback today? Let’s go check Joebucsfan.com! It’s MIRER, by the way.
The editing on “Mirer” was done quickly. Sometimes it takes browsers time to catch up. Thanks. –Joe

I didn’t spill my coffee until I read that last sentence. Well, more like threw in my dogs face and kicked him in the balls.
May 14th, 2014 at 7:58 am
It is rather refreshing to have a veteran QB on the roster who understands his role. I’m grateful to have much different scenario this season. McCown’s demeanor diffuses the drama as opposed to creating it.
May 14th, 2014 at 7:59 am
I look forward to many more articles from Joe bashing Glennon, and more whining and complaining on 620 when Joe joins the Big Dog every week. I could care less if Glennon ever takes a snap in a regular season game, but the fact that the Joe’s and Duemig could be just as wrong about this years crop of QB’s as they could be about Glennon makes it all worth while. Cause if Manziel and Bridgewater stink it up Joe and Duemig will just make excuses! Bring it on
May 14th, 2014 at 8:00 am
I think you can safely bet one team was the Texans… I mean how do you come out of the draft with Tom Savage as maybe your QB of the future… I believe they wanted Bridgewater as well at the top of the 2nd round
Other teams I could see calling about Glennon..
Bengals (Dalton’s 1TD-7INT in the playoffs is not a stat you continuously want to hear… Not sure if that’s for his career in playoffs or not)
Cardinals (Thomas is a project and Palmer is 35)
Chargers (Rivers is getting older could use a “QB of the Future”)
Rams (Bradford has 2 years left but hasn’t been able to stay healthy)
Bears (Cutler’s bound to miss a couple games and Trestman values QB2’s)
Chiefs (A. Smith in last year of contract and negotiations aren’t going well)
Browns (before the draft obviously)
Vikings (same)
Raiders (same)
Patriots (same)

May 14th, 2014 at 8:05 am
I agree about McCown. He is the straw that stirs the kool-aid. He is a very important asset to this team for now and the future.
May 14th, 2014 at 8:06 am
Rick Mirer ??? what does he have to do with Glennon and the Bucs ?..Heck the Bucs once thought Dilfer and Freeman were worth First rd draft choices ..Couch , Carr ,Akili, Brady Quinn , the list goes on and on why Mirer … At least Glennon had a decent Rookie year for teams to grade off of to make offers …
May 14th, 2014 at 8:06 am
What does the Dave Wannstedt and Rick Mirer reference have to do with anything lol I guess that counts two head coaches and management teams that think Glennon is the real deal. He is here to stay, get used to it Joe.
May 14th, 2014 at 8:08 am
The Bucs once though Dilfer and Freeman were wroth first rd draft choices … at glenon had a decent rookie year for teams to grade off of .
May 14th, 2014 at 8:08 am
There were many who cruised the bait on the “Glennon is good as gone” scenario. I was one, but felt Glennon could be groomed to be a solid NFL starter here.
Frankly, I’m delighted to have Evans but would have pulled the trigger on JFF or Carr.
It befuddles me as to why we wouldn’t want a guy that has the “it” factor to make the Bucs relevant again.
It’s time to move on, quit the rather chic like bone digging and get behind this team.
GO Bucs.
May 14th, 2014 at 8:09 am
Talking about Glennon so much is downright amusing. I like it. Any mention is better than no mention. It must be painful.
May 14th, 2014 at 8:15 am
@biff
It would probably be a little different if Glennon was the one starting for awhile and Freeman was the new rookie QB.. I’m not sure any QB would like going from a starter to a backup after having a successful personal season then hearing your name in trade talks all summer along with Vet QB’s to come in and take your spot, then use a 3rd round pick to draft a QB(listen to any GM and they expect rounds 1-3 to be starters eventually)… To be told you are a starter on Monday then Wednesday you are not lol… How he reacted wasn’t right but I’d be pretty pissed if it happened in my contract year as well…
Also McCown embraces the teaching role as well and is towards the end of his NFL playing career… Probably wouldn’t be as cheerful if he was 25 and was expecting to mentor someone..
That might sound like I’m giving Freeman a pass(which I’m not) because he was responsible for all the times he missed something… But you are trying to compare two TOTALLY different scenarios..

——————–
Last year’s defense was competent, was it not? Yet, we won a grand total of 4 games. Before you say that he had no weapons…he had VJax at full strength, a young weapon at TE, a decent running game for most of the season. This was mostly the same offense, same offensive line, same weapons (minus Williams and Martin for a good chunk of the season) that saw everybody’s most hated QB ever, Freeman, throw for over 4000 yards and 27 TDs and lead the team to 7 wins despite having a defense that Rick Mirer could shred through the air (last against pass, 29th overall).
Okay, Glennon had a good statistical year, but he didn’t/couldn’t do the little things to help the team win, like throw the ball away, not take sacks, actually complete passes down field when he needed to. Last year, Mike Glennon was the modern day version of Ken O’Brien. Don’t know who he is? He was a #1 pick with the Jets in that famous 83 QB draft, great stats, couldn’t win games. He took too many sacks, wouldn’t take chances when they presented themselves, and always played it safe. He didn’t throw the ball away either… maybe because he had a tie-in on his contract related to completion percentage, so instead he took sacks… or he just sucked.
May 14th, 2014 at 8:21 am
Plus if not for Freeman we might actually still have that moron Schiano preaching his stupid toes on the line crap, doing the dougie all over the defensive line instead of going straight at the QB, the infamous run run pass offense(btw I know I called that out in week 1 or 2 last season and no one wanted to believe me), bullrushing the kneel down play and treating our players like they are freshmen in college… Notice how many players came out and said it’s been a much better off season? They are EXCITED to finally have a system molded to them instead of being molded to a system..
Like it or not if Freeman kept playing he would have won us more games(left the field with the lead twice in the first 3 weeks) than Glennon..
May 14th, 2014 at 8:24 am
Where did my first post go where I list teams that would probably been in play for Glennon?! Comments section on here is soooo very weird sometimes!

“Lovie, Licht, and 90% of the football savvy world see greatness in you my son, I will use my $3M of Glazer money to purchase ‘Fire Freemanites “- Greg ‘Draft Guru’ Schiano

Phillip says:

———————————-
Beg to differ, but you missed the point. Freeman was going into his 5th year and behaved like the petulant child he is. He was a destabilizing force who polarized the locker room and ultimately screwed this club.
McCown is the antithesis of this. He’s brought a calming effect to this locker room and stays focused on football. I just hope his play can match his leadership ability.
May 14th, 2014 at 8:28 am
@Phillip,
Totally agree with you, Schiano completely screwed with Free’s head. Whatever potential success we may have had with Free last year was torpedoed by training camp. Not making excuses for Free, he did himself in – he is weak minded and unprofessional.
May 14th, 2014 at 8:29 am
BTW the MG8 Mob thanks Joe for reporting positive articles about the Bucs future (as in after camp) franchise QB. We will even forgive the occasional backhanded compliments you interject 🙂
May 14th, 2014 at 8:30 am
Not surprising u dog mike as u were a huge fan of Dom. History proved U wrong on dom and will in time prove u wrong on mike.I do LOVE the site though but know you are off a country mile on both of these issues
May 14th, 2014 at 8:32 am
Why are some of you Glennon supporters getting so bent out of shape by Joe having his opinion. He’s entitled to it. Just like you can have yours. If Glennon was really that good, he’d be the starter and they wouldn’t have put a vet in front of him. But we’ll see. He’s only played in 13 games so who knows either way if he’ll be good or bad. But I do know this, if he ends up sucking and they passed on Manzeil and Bridgewater and other QBs who end being good, how will they explain themselves and spin that?
I’m not convinced he’ll be that good, but i hope i’m wrong because he does play on my favorite team. Now that we have weapons and an Oline thats getting better, theres no excuses. Once again, if Mike is really good as some of you say, he should beat the old man in camp. Right?
May 14th, 2014 at 8:33 am
Didn’t Freeman arguably have his best season during Schiano’s first year? Tough to believe Schiano was responsible for Freeman’s downfall when all he really did was draft another QB in the 3rd round to push Josh in camp. Not much of a mindf@*k of you ask me
May 14th, 2014 at 8:39 am
@Biff
Okay you clearly didn’t read the entire comment or you would see that 35 year old QB (on a 2 year contract first year only guaranteed) towards the end of his playing career and also being a backup for the majority of it would have a different mindset than a 25 year old QB who just came off a successful season and has been starting since midway through his rookie season with all the drama and speculation created by his HC(being traded and trading for Palmer/signing Cassel) right after the season ended… But apparently you cannot tell apples from oranges
May 14th, 2014 at 8:39 am
Everything I thought I knew I dont.
We could have had multiple additional picks and JF?
We rejected it cause Glennon is the answer? Our Glennon?????
Wow.
May 14th, 2014 at 8:43 am
The only one who messed with Freeman’s head was Freeman.
Look at both McCown’s and Glennon’s approach to the game. A 14 year Vet and a sophomore cast into the fire both have one common denominator. It’s called professionalism.
May 14th, 2014 at 8:47 am
Joe:
We’re Bucs fans here because we love our team.
We’re sports fans here because we like the news and the site and our own opinions — not necessarily in that order. But we have to hold our opinions lightly because, well, we’re actually not very knowledgeable. We see what we see but not what’s off stage. And we don ‘t have the knowledge or skill — or responsibility — of team leadership.
We’re not “being sensitive,” just being observant.
I have been down on Mason Foster for some time. The coaching staff, it seems, is not. I presume they know what they are doing and wish the Bucs the best.
Josh Freeman and, for that matters, Raheem Morris, were interesting and promising choices with lots of upside, in my opinion. My opinion changed as the results came back.
Last year I thought Glennon was a needled reach and hoped he would never play a down. Then we saw what we saw. My eyes told me that the MGM was right on Freeman. The results showed the kid played by the rules he was given, and played well. I still remember the FSU game where he picked apart a speedy defense. In the Rams game, I was concerned because he could not make decisions fast enough, but he had little help and sure took a pounding.
The new staff — not my opinion, not the fans, certainly not the sports radio media — has reached their own conclusions. They aren’t following my opinion or yours. Perhaps we will remember one day that Joe wanted to get rid of “our Rik Miers,” in memory of Culverhouse’s opinion about Ray Perkins.
What we all can see in Glennon is someone who has taken a pounding on the field and in the press but still impresses the professionals who matter. And that’s not an opinion.
Go Bucs.
May 14th, 2014 at 8:49 am
@Toes
The talk of trading Freeman, constantly hearing your coach doesn’t like you, Carson Palmer trade(reported done deal till Cards offered more), signing Matt Cassel, using a 3rd round pick on a QB instead of a 3rd wr or another weapon for him, Glennon getting a ton of first team reps in training camp, Glennon getting almost all of the preseason…
Oh and to top it all off… Hearing daily how Glennon will be starting the game after the bye week once he was drafted as well…
But like I said I still blame Freeman for missing events but how he reacted played a HUGE part in getting Schiano out of Tampa which I’m EXTREMELY happy about and could NEVER hate Freeman for that… I guess you could consider me a Freemanite for life since he got Schiano fired 🙂
May 14th, 2014 at 8:49 am
The Fck does Dave Wanstadt have to do with anything.??
May 14th, 2014 at 8:52 am
So I’m supposed to believe that he just didn’t get the right offer?? Give me a break. We traded mike Williams for peanuts, we traded zuttah for peanuts, if he really wanted to trade Glennon he would’ve did it for peanuts..Truth is, Glennon is well regarded around the league as a future star quarterback. That’s why teams called. No team called for JF5. But they called for Mr Glennon.
May 14th, 2014 at 8:52 am
Media is creating all of this …. let this play out and let the guy learn.
What he did last year was impressive given the team and coach
I am glad Joe and big dog know so much more than the hired professionals at One Buc Place and they know more than the teams willing to trade for him.
Joe even tries to explain away comments by others supporting Glennon… that is unthinkable that they believe this kid is good and has good tools.
Joe even was spouting off about how McCown should have watched tape last year. Why? That teams is not here. Different Schemes, Different coaches, different philosophy, different players. Who was he going to watch and why … awful
You wanted him instead of learning Tedfords new offense and working with his current team to one night pop in the tape from last year just to watch Glennon….
May 14th, 2014 at 8:59 am
Joe-
Love the site..visit multiple times a day via phone..love the insight on Our Bucs. It does seem u are taking shots at Glennon because your , dare I say, bitter we didn’t get a QB in the draft. L & L are moving forward with Glennon after dissecting every available prospect this year. From reports, sounds like a lot of the league agreed by trying to trade for Glennon. I’m not a MGM member, but I am once he’s on the field.hes a Buc. 3rd round pick with brains, arm, & height. Had waaaaaay to many holes elsewhere to address. If Glennon couldn’t get the job done..licht & Lovie would have sent him packing…see 2013 Former O-Line members for reference. He will be professionally coached this year for the first time as well. Joe, you do great work. Have to trust our new management until we have results we can hold them to…season can’t come soon enough! Have a cold one buddy! GO BUCS!!!

I don’t understand Tampa Bay’s interest in a QB when they have Mike Glennon, I really don’t. – Mike Mayock
May 14th, 2014 at 9:14 am
The Tampa media has to be one of if not the single largest bunch of whiners in the American sports media. It just never stops, nothing is ever good enough. It’s painfully obvious now Glennon is going to be here, hopefully for a while, and all some media members can do is whine and not accept it. Like petulant children when they don’t get their way.
May 14th, 2014 at 9:20 am
@Lou. Well said… none of “us” our experts and we all have “opinions” on who should be playing, starting and on the roster. Even a broken watch is “right” twice a day.

Fictional writing at its best.

I am the first to applaud joe on this article. Very neutral on Glennon.
May 14th, 2014 at 9:24 am
Won’t be long before a media outlet reports MG has a learning disability.
May 14th, 2014 at 9:24 am
Flummoxed more than whining.
Unless last years Glennon was some sort of imposter.
The guy who struggled mightily to break 200 passing yards per game. 90 vs. the Bills.
And were competing vs. Brees, Ryan, and Newton.
My stomach tells me this will go alongside the decision to let Doug Williams go and fire Chucky.
May 14th, 2014 at 9:29 am

Freeman got Dom (and Schiano) fired which got us Lovie & Licht;
Schiano got rid of Freeman and brought us Glennon
Winners are Bucs and the fans

I don’t know if I’m still banned, or was ever banned, because I haven’t attempted to post since the apparent banning.
If I am banned, that’s absolutely fine. I would not change a single thing that I said.
I just wanted to post that it gives me nothing but delight to see more and more readers let their voice be heard on this matter. Loving it. Keep it up!!!
May 14th, 2014 at 9:39 am
Giving the backup QB that you drafted in the 3rd round (that you’ve been jizzing over since he left high school) 50% of the snaps isn’t really proof positive that he’s there to “push” you.
Its funny that as soon as Glennon got in, you stopped seeing the playcalling that was all about “run downfield and let me throw it up and you try to out jump the DB.”
Whatever. It’s water under the bridge now. I was one that was hoping for a QB in this draft (preferably Murray) but it didn’t happen and now we’re stuck (my personal opinion) with Glennon.
Do I hope I’m wrong? Absolutely.
I’ll say this, though. I hope all you MGMers are right on this one, cause next year i don’t expect to be drafting in the single digits and the following year, i expect to be drafting in the 20s.
But until Glennon is anointed the starter on the Bucs, I’m Mackin for McCown???
May 14th, 2014 at 9:40 am
Need to get my Glennon jersey before the price goes up.
May 14th, 2014 at 9:40 am
Sad part is Mike Glennon had a better rookie season than Matt Ryan and he had less to work with, yet Matty Ice is viewed as a ‘Franchise QB’. Glennon had more TD’S in 3 less games (19 to 16), less interceptions (9 to 11), and a better QBR rating. Yet he still is just viewed as a “career backup”
Just embrace Glennon Joe, make it easier on yourself when he finally touches the field and starts lighting defenses up.
GO BUCS!
May 14th, 2014 at 9:44 am
Mike “Cannon” Glennon is the future and answer.
Glad to see out 2nd year QB was evaluated correctly by our new regime.
It’s a darn shame to hear Joes , BigDawg, TomJones, etc all rip on Glennon.
Lol at everyone: media, fans that believed Feeeman was in the “right” and Goennon has no chance.
Just because MG8 isn’t pretty like Josh, doesn’t mean he can’t play.

in 2004, the great Brian Griese, playing 11 games for a real bad bucs team, threw for 20 tds 11 ints QB rating of 97.5.
Shows what a farce the stats are. Unless there are folks thinking Brian was on his way to the Hall of Fame too.
Matty ice led his team to the playoffs his rookie season, clipping our bucs in OT in a critical game near the end.
Other than last year he’s done that every year he has been in the league.
Maybe the cannon can do that, but I have some serious doubts.
Sure hope McCown holds up and we play lights out D. Were damn sure gonna need it.

Freeman screwed his own pooch, and he and his agent screwed the Bucs.
With that said, it’s a new day and we have a much better 1-2 QB punch the. Last year.
I can’t wait for the day that Glennon gets his shot, and takes advantage of it.
I will LOL at all of the Freemanites and their sour grapes towards Glennon.
A new day in Tampa Bay!
May 14th, 2014 at 10:07 am
Good investigative reporting Joe…. and that is quite a complement coming from an old ISU Redbird. So much for the crumbling case the mob is trying to build against you.
Who wouldn’t listen to calls from any other franchise regarding the possibility of obtaining a draft pick bonanza for one of their existing players?
May 14th, 2014 at 10:46 am
“Lay Off Donald Penn”
-These fans must be either taking Pro Football Focus stats as gospel and/or be prejudiced against fat people. Why? Because Penn absolutely was not the problem with the Bucs’ 32nd-ranked offense.
-Regardless, there’s no reason to consider dumping Penn. He’s not the problem. If the Bucs are looking to purge cash on their highly-paid offensive line, then Joe thinks they should look at Carl Nicks, Davin Joseph and Jeremy Zuttah, guys who truly have been overpaid for their performance.
-At worst, Penn is an average starting left tackle. His paycheck reads like that of an average starter at his position, and he’s extraordinarily durable and he’s a leader. Yet this is a guy some Bucs fans want to run out of town?
-So there you go, another voice in Penn’s corner, speaking with ease about Penn’s hefty upside. Joe suspects Lovie Smith won’t look at Penn and see anything but an asset
Sir, Joe has no problem with this comment. But if you are going to make a habit of going off subject in the comments, especially to take shots at Joe, then Joe will have to put your comments in the babysitter bin with many others. –Joe

Backup QB is an important position, IF you’re hoping to make playoff run as we are. The ideal backup young, with potential, and has a little experience. Glennon is the backup. We would have to have been offered more than just his “value” in draft picks to move him. We needed a replacement backup QB! Or the draft slot to take one we liked or loved as a future franchise guy, but sadly they all were gone at the top of the 2nd. Hence no trade! Glennon got lucky that Carr and Bridgewater and even JF were gone.
May 14th, 2014 at 11:00 am
Actually, glennon was unlucky because he’d probably start for a few teams this year. Think if it this way, if Houston offered us the top pick in the 3rd, it makes total sense to turn it down as glennon is better than all qb’s left at this point in draft. BUT, had we gotten a qb in the 2nd or even at 7 in the first, it would have been great value and a good trade for us to take that 3rd.
May 14th, 2014 at 11:34 am
@Joe
Just felt the Dave Wannstedt/Rick Mirer comment was way out in left field. Joe the posters who don’t even like Glennon (for whatever). Are now coming to his defense, because your constently digging at the kid.
Your antagonistic approach is sounding very similar to the way-local media types, were badgering you- when you first lunched this blog-Don’t be them (In regards to Glennon)-You bigger than that Bro
May 14th, 2014 at 11:46 am
Are the anti-MGMGer’s NOW making excuses for Freeman’s mental state? After every time an MGM member or me would bring up everything Glennon was dealing with, they were called excuses.
Freeman ran out of excuses last summer. How do I know this? Because I used every one in the book to defend the guy last summer.
After being one of the biggest Freemanites on this site last summer, I wish nothing but ill will upon him. Making that stupid banner for him last preseason and everything. The effin guy let me down. Proved me wrong about him. So I hate his friggin guts.
So think about that, when people say Joe hates Glennon. Because it’s obvious to me Joe does not hate Glennon at all. He wants what 99.9% of all Buc fans want and have wanted. A true franchise QB. The draft was stocked with QB’s with potential. Glennon showed no flash or pizazz last season. So I can understand why a Buc fan would be clamoring for one of those QB’s in the draft.
I am 99.9% sure that if Glennon were to take the field this season and light it up, Joe would be just as happy as the rest of us.

Are you pathetic Freemanites still complaining about the snaps Glennon got during the pre-season? LMAO… that shit is comical. Newsflash, not sure if you ever watched pre-season or not but back ups play a majority of every pre-season game. Thats how its always been and thats how its always going to be… I can’t believe a year later and you are still bitching about the stupidest crap. Freeman was a loser plain and simple. Thank god that piece of trash is gone.

People won’t let it go Couch. They can’t move on I guess.

Schiano broke Freeman’s heart. Poor Freeman.
May 14th, 2014 at 12:57 pm
Mike “cannon” Glennon is the QB of the future.
May 14th, 2014 at 1:08 pm
I guess some people on the comments section don’t know how coaches usually play preseason games… Ignorance at its finest from people that are clearly MGM… For Starters especially on offense… A series or two in the first game… A couple series or 1st quarter in the 2nd game and usually a half or close to a full half in the 3rd game… 4th game they don’t play… But hey I guess training camp can be just as good as actual football where you aren’t constantly playing against the same teammates… smh
If you don’t know anything about the subject then you really shouldn’t state an opinion..
Oh and for all the “excuses” Freeman has they were actual positives for Glennon (more practice time with the 1st team, way more preseason) you think all those rumors of Glennon starting after the bye week and Schiano wanting to dump Freeman didn’t put a thought into Glennon’s head to mentally prepare himself to start sooner than later? Or hell Schiano himself telling him to prepare himself because he would be starting soon?
Look I HOPE if Glennons time comes as a starting QB again for the BUCS he lights it up like no other QB before him did… But I don’t think he will and want to draft someone who could do that IN THE FIRST ROUND(MAJORITY OF STARTING QB’s ARE FIRST ROUND PICKS PERIOD)…
I wish Freeman well because at the end of the day he is a person still…. And because of the drama and everything else that happened last season SCHIANO is GONE! 🙂

@87,
“Freeman ran out of excuses last summer. How do I know this? Because I used every one in the book to defend the guy last summer.”
LOL. I was right there with you, buddy. Not as loud but the same excuses non the less. I hate his guts now too.
Knowing what we know now, how in the world can anyone defend that puke box?
May 14th, 2014 at 1:54 pm
“Not as loud”
LOL Chef Paul whose not a chef at all. I don’t think anyone was as loud as I was when it came to Freeman. Buc n’ Junkie comes in second.

Hey look I made a rhyme….I might have a future in rapping. I wonder if the Caveman Gang is looking for a new rapper.

The first question on the application is probably, “Do you have an extra mattress? We go through them fast.”
May 14th, 2014 at 2:07 pm
aw man, multiple draft picks? sigh, way to hurt a guy. It’s good to keep him though, in case McCown isn’t throwing enough checkdowns or getting sacked enough.
May 14th, 2014 at 2:11 pm
“We never got to the point where we discussed draft picks,” Licht said…
If that’s the case Joe, why would you find your league source credible? Licht said he never reached talks of compensation.

“The last paragraph was another unnecessary shot at Glennon.”
Apparently reading is not your strong point. It was actually a necessary shot at the Glennon fans, not Glennon.

“So I’m supposed to believe that he just didn’t get the right offer?? Give me a break. We traded mike Williams for peanuts, we traded zuttah for peanuts, if he really wanted to trade Glennon he would’ve did it for peanuts..Truth is, Glennon is well regarded around the league as a future star quarterback.”
According to Licht he got no offers at all, because he did not let the conversations go that far.
And there was a time when Josh Freeman was thought to be a future star and the best QB in his draft class.
So opinions don’t matter. Results do.

How short your memory is. I was still rooting for him AFTER you pulled your support.
May 14th, 2014 at 2:30 pm
@Bonzai
I doubt people called asking about Glennon and not immediately say we like him and know you want draft picks how about this… And it’s not discussing it if the Bucs simply say that’s not enough.. Or he could be lying since it is after the draft and not like anyone else is gonna call him out and say we discussed picks with you over Glennon because then it would just put their starting QB in an awkward position.
May 14th, 2014 at 2:45 pm
The problem with that is the MGMers think L&L are honest, straight shooting guys. That would mean no lies.
May 14th, 2014 at 3:01 pm
I beg to differ Bonzai. I’m an MGMer and don’t think they are straight forward. For example, I think they are bullspitting us by “naming” McCown the starter.

@bif
That might sound like I’m giving Freeman a pass(which I’m not) because he was responsible for all the times he missed something… But you are trying to compare two TOTALLY different scenarios..
———————————————————-
You limit Freeman’s liability to him just missing something—What about
1. the constant whining in the locker room
2. the blaming of others for his mistakes
3. Did Schiano give him some substance to get him in the league’s substance abuse program?
4. blaming Schiano for rigging the vote that took away his captinship.
5.
May 14th, 2014 at 3:22 pm
Thank you Phillip very good points. To act like people who defend Freeman just can’t get over it is just not the case. It just get sick and tired of hearing this made up revisionist history about the guy. The was a good guy and leader of this team for years. He had a ton of potential to be a solid franchise QB and Schiano came in and screwed the guy, plain and simple. I don’t defend the way Josh handled it but I don’t know the whole story but like some I don’t pretend to know. What I do know is the people that go around and trash talking people when they are gone are the same people who will do it to you when you turn your back. They are the type of people I don’t like to associate with and I surely wouldn’t put any trust or faith in.
May 14th, 2014 at 3:36 pm
The QB situation in Tampa is puzzling. the Buccaneers team has never come out and said that Glennon is the future of the team, just Clowney is the starter, for now. obviously if Glennon was the future of the team he would be starting.
Seems to me that what they wanted in the draft didnt workout in terms of QBs. so they are waiting for the next draft or the one after that for the franchise man.
If Glennon and can play like he did in the first half of the Seahawks game %100 the time, everyone will shut the hell up.

would you say this same thing about Lovey coming in and screwing Glennon? Who by the way you haven’t heard any bitching or complaining from, only hard working and complete loyalty to the new sheriff in town.
May 14th, 2014 at 3:57 pm
Stanglassman,
Freeman corrupted the Bucs. He performed an act of treason and ruined our season.
Thanks for sharing your take, and I am looking forward to the conclusion of the NFLPA investigation.
Schiano didn’t ruin Freeman. Get that clear. Freeman cooked his own goose.

“He wants what 99.9% of all Buc fans want and have wanted. A true franchise QB.”
LOL, yes I remember all of that last year, but most know you’re just a great buc fan, right, wrong or not, all just opinion.
Spot on with your post, and hopefully McCown, and Tedford get this Offense rolling out of the gate.
May 14th, 2014 at 5:02 pm
The fact anyone, at all, defends a guy who wanted to torpedo and destroy this franchise is beyond me. Since the NFLPA investigation is never coming out, that should tell you who was behind all the crap last year: Freeman’s agent, directed by Freeman. Schiano didn’t ruin Freeman, Freeman being a mental midget ruined Freeman, period.
May 14th, 2014 at 5:06 pm
@Stanglassman
Thanks man.. Unfortunately tons of other fans on here only want to see one side of the story.. Whether it’s the I hate Freeman he ruined my life or the I hate Schiano fan club… They all speak just one side of the story to make that side seem correct… I could careless because they were both wrong but it led to the firing of Schiano which I’m glad as a BUCS fan..
@Willy
TWO TOTALLY different scenarios.. Comparing a guy entering his 5th year as a starter to a guy who by all accounts shouldn’t have been starting last year and if our front office was telling the truth was supposed to be the back up to our “Franchise QB”
May 14th, 2014 at 5:57 pm
@PHILLIP Are you really that stupid or just acting like it? A 5th year QB should have a lot more maturity than a 2nd year, but we know who had acted like a big boy (strike that) Man. Our new coach has declared most emphatically “QB of the future”. You don’t have to like it – It’s just what Lovey said! Get over it already. Let’s move on.
May 14th, 2014 at 6:34 pm
I take all these little snipes by Joe at Glennon with a grain of salt. Joe is a blogger, the more traffic he gets the more money he can make so obviously stirring up the pot with controversial posts is to his advantage. But clearly he also doesn’t see the possibilities in Glennon that L&L do which makes me glad, as an MG8 supporter, that Joe isn’t on the Bucs staff.
How exactly is quoting the GM controversial? –Joe

Wait wait wait. So you 2 are now saying Licht was lying about teams calling about Glennon? That’s where you’re trying take it now? Jimminy Christmas. Give it a rest already. Keep drawing any conclusion you can hold onto I guess to prove Glennon is worthless.
Geesh pretty soon I am going to become MGM if I have to keep defending the poor kid.
I won’t do that though. Right now I’m part of what looks like is my own mob, seeing how many keep criticizing this move and that.
It’s called the LSM. The Lovie Smith Mob. Anyone want to join me? Because my mob is going to kick the shyte out of all your mobs every day of the week.
May 15th, 2014 at 7:28 am
No I wasn’t saying any of that actually I was just telling Bonzai that I doubt they would say they got to the negotiating part of the after the draft was over because it would just put Glennon in a weird spot like ya we tried to trade you but didn’t get enough that’s all.. Same goes for the team trying to trade for him..
