Mike Evans Comes Schiano, Sapp Approved
May 9th, 2014Sitting side by side and smiling on the NFL Network studio set last night was a funny sight. Warren Sapp, the man who threw more public daggers at Greg Schiano than Joe lobbed at Sabby The Goat, was alongside Schiano talking about the Bucs drafting of manbeast receiver Mike Evans.
Sapp was as darn happy man, reiterating that he believes the Bucs have plenty of talent in place on defense and the system will work, so it was time to get offense.
The former leader of the New Schiano Order talked about how defenses will have an immense challenge matching up against Evans and Vincent Jackson.
Kurt Warner probably had the most poignant comment of the night, calling Josh McCown the happiest Buccaneer, and Warner is excited to see back-shoulder throws to the Bucs’ dynamic duo.
One thing Joe loves about the drafting of Evans? It should really push Jackson to another level, assuming he’s the extraordinary competitor coaches and past and present say he is.

All we need now is jarvis Landry in the 3rd round .

NOOOOO……
A Sabby PIscatelli reference this early in the day!! Way to go there Joe.

Pablo is correct.

Evans makes sense for long term reasons too. I think VJax has been great for the Bucs, but age and a fat contract are not a good thing on the NFL. Evans is the heir apparent for when Licht decides to cut ties with VJax’s big contract. Sad but it’s a business

Perfect for the slot. Not a burner, but with his routes and hands Landry is perfect for the underneath routes opened up by the Twin Towers (love the nickname). Total chain mover and quality character.
Not so high on Marqise Lee. Health+iffy hands+inconsistent play=Kelvin Benjamin being picked over you

We have a great shot at picking up either Marquise Lee or Jordan Matthews & if we go Guard…Joel Bitonio
I hope we go Offense again with this next pick….

Don’t anyone be shocked if we choose a punter in round 6 or 7…..we would free up some cap space for other needs.

Very Entertaining Site today Joe.
Would love to see Bucs get some Road Grader O-Lineman tonight…..

I remember reading scout reports on Glennon saying that he throws a top notch back shoulder fade. Maybe this was L&L plan all along to build an offensive system where Glennon can flourish.

Jeremy Gallon in the 5th will be just as good if not better than most of the receivers in the draft… The kid gets no love for some reason. He had a truly special year last year and Michigan’s offense was so up and down it’s amazing… Steve Smith Clone.

How can you argue this pick?! It was a no-brainer! Now, whoever is at helm(QB) has someone to throw to. It should bode well for McCown and Glennon.
I’m with 007, we need to go get some o-line help today.
May 9th, 2014 at 9:05 am
I kind of hope the Bucs do draft another WR on day 3…speed guy maybe? Day 2 though has O-line and pass rusher (DT, DE, LB?) written all over it. Unless there is a QB that drops (still think MG8 truly is in the Bucs starting plans), seeing as it’s nice to have good QB competition and McCown is a one or two year mentor/backup after Glennen beats him out in camp

I hate back-shoulder throws! Why not hit a receiver on the fly??? Oh that’s right…you need separation from the db to do that!
May 9th, 2014 at 10:36 am
Yeah forget back shoulder throws, i mean only the best quarterbacks in the league use them. Only wide receivers like Megatron and Larry Fitzgerald uses those silly back should throws/ catches.
@Bman c’mon fool. Back shoulder throws are extremely important no matter what kind of player you are. If you always looking to run past the defense all they need to do is stay over the top. Most corner are fast, not a lot of them are big. I would rather have a guy who can run past them when needed but is unstoppable when the corner has the “advantage” of being over the top. Back shoulder throws are now one of the most important throws in football. Wake up man

What is a back shoulder throw? A pass thrown to the back side of the defender when his back is turned. There is no reason to throw it if there is separation. Of course they are useful, but to design an offense based on a back shoulder pass is ridiculous. We used to have a qb that would throw a back shoulder throw when his receiver had two yards of separation.

Sapp was happy because he could tell Schiano to his face, Tampa 2 Buc Football was coming back to Raymond James Stadium. I think 99 was barely OK with Evans, he was wishing for a trade up for Mack.

If Evans becomes the man beast, it will signal the last year for Jackson. Strictly dollars and sense. now having said that i am not sure of Jackson’s future dollar cost but it will be a point of contention in the future.

@passthebuc- Nice optimism! The echoes from Radio City Hall are still reverberating and you’re talking about VJ’s possible departure!
Relish the moment brother! This will be a great tandem in 2014.

I’m really skeptical of Evans. His highlight videos seemingly show him making most of his catches in super tight single coverage with little to no separation from the DB. He does not have breakaway speed and is no YAC guy. He also only played two years in college and lined up every play on the right side of the formation. The highlights show very few acrobatic, or soft hand catches, and like it or not Manziel’s throws were deadly accurate. If you want to see a truly dynamic playmaker with NFL tools – size, breakaway speed, soft hands, explosiveness, and running ability, check out Watkins’ highlights.
The caveat to all of this is I’ve not seen coaching tape and do not evaluate talent for a living. Blah, blah, blah. These are just my really basic observations. Hopefully he is another Keyshawn; no way IMO, is he Calvin Johnson. I’m concerned he is just Mike Williams’s replacement. Is anyone else concerned?

“I’m concerned he is just Mike Williams’s replacement. Is anyone else concerned?”
Of course. When you draft a receiver that only has 69 catches for 1394 yards and 12 TD’s last year you’re terrified……

All smiles

If Sapp & Schiano approved it you know we got the wrong guy. We should have gotten Johnny Football.
