Peter King: Bucs Want Johnny, But…
May 8th, 2014If all things were even, your new franchise quarterback for the Bucs would be none other than Johnny Football, says fight-instigating, barista-training, pedestrian-bumping, olive oil-lapping, popcorn-munching, coffee-slurping, fried-chicken-eating, oatmeal-loving, circle-jerking, beer-chugging, cricket-watching, scone-loathing, college football-naïve, baseball box score-reading Peter King of Sports Illustrated and NBC Sports fame.
The Bucs, said King, want Johnny Football. Problem is, they don’t want him that badly.
Speaking with the one and only Chris “Mad Dog” Russo on the station that bears his name, “Mad Dog Radio,” one of the family of sports channels found exclusively on SiriusXM NFL Radio, King said the Bucs want Johnny Football and believe he is at the top of the Tampa Bay’s draft board for quarterbacks.
However, and it is a big “however,” the Bucs currently don’t feel he is worth the seventh pick in the draft. So, King says, the Bucs are torn.
“I know they like him a lot,” King said of the Bucs’ interest in Johnny Football. “They want their quarterback of the future. They view Josh McCown as a one-year band-aid.”
So if the Bucs cannot trade back just a few spots, does general manager Jason Licht bite the bullet and call Johnny’s name or gamble even more with a lesser quarterback?
Ah, the intrigue and drama of the draft.

Joe get on the phone with Licht right now and tell him to make this move! I am going to be at the Draft party at Raymond James stadium yelling johnny Johnny Johnny johnny Johnny Johnny johnny
May 8th, 2014 at 4:33 pm
They pull the trigger Joe I’d he’s there
May 8th, 2014 at 4:34 pm
I think someone will jump us to get him, if that happens, I hope we can trade back to the mid teens and get Carr. I dont know a whole lot about Carr but tedford wanted him in college so I would imagine things havent changed that much.

Write a story about what jay glazer said. Get your box of tissue ready joe “Johnny lover” Bucs fan.
Please, Jay Glazer responded to a Tweet. He didn’t say the Bucs didn’t want to draft Johnny Football. He said they won’t take him at No. 7. Huge difference! Glazer might say the exact same thing because he’s sure someone else will take him at No. 3, for example. Amazing how Twitterings get the spin job. –Joe

Squeezin’ in article after article on JF…the question is.
If Johnny is gone at 7?
If Johnny is passed up by the Bucs?
How many and how much longer will the “We shoulda picked Johnny articles will there be?
We are still not over Michael Bennett, so I suspect we will have to endure Johnny for some time to come.
That almost makes me want to change my:
Sammy@7 To Johnny@7…..but, I just can’t do it.
May 8th, 2014 at 4:40 pm
I just fear that if we draft this kid, these here internet pages will be stuck together by tomorrow morning.
May 8th, 2014 at 4:42 pm
Joe, call Licht and say if he drafts Manziel you’ll give him a 7th rounder. You know he loves them.
May 8th, 2014 at 4:45 pm
@Matt B
Lol!
May 8th, 2014 at 4:46 pm
If Johnny does that wink and flashes the Pistol to the ladies at his table when he’s on stage with the Commish, I’m changing the channel!!
May 8th, 2014 at 4:48 pm
Not my first choice, but if the Bucs love him, they need to go get him. I say that for you, Joe.
May 8th, 2014 at 4:49 pm
He would be a steal at #7. Big hands, Big Heart, Big Arm and most importantly, Mentally sound. He’s no Freeman AKA Freefall.
May 8th, 2014 at 4:50 pm
Manziel: “want to have fun and enjoy(ing) my life”. The great one’s don’t care about that. They’re dialed-in on being great. Rather go another direction for franchise QB
May 8th, 2014 at 4:51 pm
Good one Matt.
The pick if we stay at 7 will be Mike Evans if he is still on the board.
May 8th, 2014 at 4:51 pm
Big mistake if we take him in the 1st…jmho. But I’ll pull for him and want him to be the best ever if we do…but, man, theres gonna be a lot of tequila injested, ug!

Here’s my final guess at what will transpire this weekend: I am really beginning to think the Bucs move back in Round #1(picking up another 2nd round choice), so another team can come up and get Bortles/Manziel. Then the Bucs pick someone like Aaron Donald-DT, Eric Ebron-TE, Taylor Lewan-OT in Round #1. Jordan Matthews-WR and Gabe Jackson-OG in Round 2. Aaron Murray-QB in Round 3. Jeff Janis-WR in Round 5. Andrew Norwell-OT/G in Round 6. Kevin Pierre-Louis-OLB or Ben Gardner-DE in Round 7.
Guess we will find out in a few hours how this all starts to shake out!

The Bucs have masterfully driven up the price of the #7 pick if there’s any team out there at all from #8 to #32 that wants Manziel badly enough. Now they have to hope somebody, anybody, wants him badly enough to trade up. They’ve shown more leg with these smokescreens than you’ll see on a Friday night at Mons.
May 8th, 2014 at 4:56 pm
So I guess banging models and Hollywood actresses isn’t having fun and enjoying life, like Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers have done.
Interesting that Tom Brady knocked up an actress then left her for a model, and no one says sh!t. But Johnny goes to a baseball game, and the republic is going to collapse.

” if there’s any team out there at all from #8 to #32 that wants Manziel badly enough.”
Looking at you, Jerruh Jones
May 8th, 2014 at 4:58 pm
Nightmare, I was afraid of this. If he is your next franchise qb why not take him wherever you can get him. Pleeeeeeeeease just take Johnny Football and sit down!!!!
May 8th, 2014 at 4:59 pm
“The great one’s don’t care about that.” A more untrue statement has never been spoken. How about Tom Brady jet setting around the world with his super model girl? How could Johnny not be worth it @7 but worth it @12? The question is whether he is a franchise QB or not. If he turns out to be one then he is worth it no matter where the Bucs pick. This is a Johnny or bust draft for the Bucs. If they don;t get him here then when will we ever get a franchise QB?
May 8th, 2014 at 5:00 pm
Waiting for the draft to start is beyond painful!!!!
May 8th, 2014 at 5:01 pm
Mallet trade from pats could open door for Glennon to Pats.
And McCoy ain’t happy about an Aaron Donald selection.
Getting interesting.
May 8th, 2014 at 5:04 pm
Sorry Joe didn’t see your next post covering the Glennon to pats thing.
May 8th, 2014 at 5:10 pm
If we can get Johnny in the 5th round after adding 2 receivers and an OT, I’d be down.

Glazer was on Jay Mohr’s show earlier, and he said there is concern about his height and durability. Doesn’t think the Browns, Eaiders, or Buccs take him.
May 8th, 2014 at 5:45 pm
I’d like to see the Bucs take Matthews in the first, and draft Murry at qb later on
May 8th, 2014 at 6:19 pm
I smell smoke but in this case where there is smoke, there is smokescreen, not fire. Bucs dont think he’s worth #7 pick? Bwahaha. Licht would be humping the floor if Johnny was there for the taking at 7. The Bucs problem is not this, its that he’s likely to go 4 or 5. I will say this. if somehow JF is there to be had at 7 and we pass, I will really cry. I will run into my bathroom, close the door so my boys don’t see me weeping, and I will drop puddles. We need our franchise guy. Im hoping it somehow becomes Johnny.
May 8th, 2014 at 6:23 pm
Jacksonville or Dallas are Johnny’s likely destination. Both are terrible in their own way.
