It seems another former Bucs standout could be landing in New England to help the Patriots make a playoff run.
Free agent guard onetime Tampa Bay captain Davin Joseph visited the Patriots this week, per BSPN. Wouldn’t that be a kick in the ass if Joseph landed in New England on a league-minimum deal and revives his once strong career while the Bucs search for his replacement?
Joe wishes Joseph well, but Joe would be unsettled if Joseph joined Bill Belicheat while the Bucs rolled the dice on the dynamic duo of Jamon Meredith and Oneil Cousins at right guard. Hopefully, the Bucs will draft a promising right guard and Joe won’t have to think about such things.
Hours after Joseph was cut, Joe was at a public facility where a birthday party was being held. Joe randomly encountered a prominent Bucs staff member there who explained to Joe that Joseph’s 2013 game film was dreadful.
Yes, Joseph was coming off surgery and an infection last season, but after that conversation, Joe’s confident there’s no hope for a Joseph return to Tampa in 2014.
Again, Joe wishes Joseph well.

I don’t see how we are better without Joseph considering his replacement is Meredith/Cousins. We could have re-signed him at a much lower price after cutting him. He is a leader and a good player when healthy. Offensive line moves this offseason were questionable at best. I see nowhere along the line where that constitutes definitive improvement.

Last year wasn’t the only one where Joseph had bad game tape. He just never lived up to the hype. Even when he made the Pro Bowl he was far from dominating in either the facet of blocking.

Good for him if he does. Seemed like a good guy who if anything is left in the tank Belichick and staff will get the most out of him

Joseph’s play was beyond dreadful last season. Not having him on our roster is not keeping me up at night. Dominick’s days of holding on to players “hoping” they come back strong off major knee injuries is long gone. Wish Davin the best, but just not here. If he does get signed somewhere else, it will be for pennies on the dollar that he was making here.

Is it just me or does it seem like the same 3-4 teams just keep exchanging players with one another.
Between us, the redskins, patriots, and bears we just keep rotating players back and forth with each other.

One bad year was all I saw from him. Was otherwise very much an above average Guard. I can confidently say Meredith shouldn’t even be a back up on this team. So the solution is in the draft for 1+ Guard so that rookies will fill the holes? Knowing Lovie’s history w constructing offensive lines, I am very much concerned.

Getting rid of him will prove to be a big mistake in my opinion. Hope they consider bringing him back if NE does not sign him. He will come back strong this year

Wish him the best. I hope he gets a bill of full health and maybe gets a shot at a superbowl. He was awesome for us for years and its amazing how fans seem to forget this. One season of bad tape after injury is not enough in my book to slam the guy as if he were a scrub. I believe Lovie and Light were a little haste on releasing him.

unless there are hurt feelings or burned bridges, we should be on the shortlist for trying to sign this guy back. My guess is he takes one of those 1-year “prove it” deals that seem to be fashionable for veteran FAs who don’t like they multi-year offers they are seeing.
It seems to me that some of this offseason’s bloodletting was hasty. There aren’t enough good players remaining out there for us to spend the cap room we have…at this point it doesn’t look like it would have stymied our plans to keep either revis or joseph + penn, even if the new regime felt they were overpaid they still would’ve given the bucs greater ability to compete over the course of a season than what they will come out of the draft with.
