Another Aggie has the Bucs’ interest
Joe remembers when the Bucs interviewed Texas Tech guard Brandon Carter back in 2010. Carter eventually was signed by Tampa Bay as an undrafted free agent, but a big reason why he was a chosen pre-draft interview was so the Bucs could get insider dirt on Ndamukong Suh and Gerald McCoy.
Joe broke that story (see link above). It was Carter who had success against both beastly tackles in the Big XII.
And that brings Joe to word today from NationalFootballPost.com that Texas A&M linebacker Nate Askew visited the Buccaneers.
Askew is a converted receiver who was hardly a superstar linebacker in college. He’s a freakish athlete, and Lovie Smith craves speed at linebacker, but Askew also spent years in practice at A&M alongside and across from Johnny Football and receiver Mike Evans. two potential Bucs targets in the first round of the NFL Draft. The Bucs sure could learn a lot about those two from Askew.
As a converted wide receiver with 4.46 speed in the 40-yard dash, Texas A&M outside linebacker Nate Askew is an intriguing draft prospect. The 6-foot-4, 241-pounder has a 38-inch vertical leap, a 10-6 broad jump and bench pressed 225 pounds 18 times.
He has drawn steady interest from NFL teams, visiting the Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to a league source, and working out privately for the Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles and the Houston Texans.
Per AggieSports.com, Askew was a first-year outside linebacker last season and had moved from receiver because he repeatedly couldn’t catch the ball. Joe also read a quote from Askew saying Broncos star and former college teammate Von Miller advised him to switch positions.
Regardless, Askew, assuming he has the makeup of a special teams player, is a guy Bucs fans can keep an eye on in the seventh round of the NFL Draft.

He has the size and the speed but is he only a special teams player? I think in this day and age we need versatile players who can multi-task and be counted on to provide quality depth at their prospective position. Just being a special teamer and lacking quality skills at his LB position is not worthy of being drafted. I would think that there are way too many players available, who even with the 7th pick, can provide better play than a college ex-WR who is just learning to play LB.
Unless he is a really quick learner, I think he’ll be signed after the draft. This is L&L’s first Buc draft and they only have so many picks, so it’s almost imperative that they get it right. Askew might be a beast but from what I have read he lacks experience and pigeon-holing him to ST is a wasted pick.

If the Bucs can get Minnesota’s first round pick for Mike Glennon, then the Joes would have to call Jason Licht Rock GOD…

Ofcourse theyd include another future rd draft choice too, but that is just a pipe dream man! dont expect it to happen at all.
