Tim Wright Has A New Fan
April 27th, 2014The veteran tight end the Bucs hotly pursued in free agency last month, Brandon Myers, isn’t walking around the Buccaneers locker room like the top dog tight end.
It took little time for him to learn he’s got a very talented teammate at his position.
That talent would be Tim Wright, who has added 80 ounces of muscle and now weighs 235 pounds, so he told Joe. Wright said he’s confidently and slowly building a tight end’s body — to go with his fantastic hands.
Wright looked in midseason form during last week’s minicamp at One Buc Palace, using his long (6-4) frame and arms, and body control, to haul in balls from Josh McCown.
Myers has been one of the most productive tight ends in football the past two seasons, hauling in 79 balls with the Raiders in 2012, followed by 47 catches with the Giants last year.
So Mr. Myers, what do you think of Tim Wright?
“Oh, man. First, he’s a great kid, man. He’s a good person. I enjoy hanging out with him, talking to him and getting to know him. On the field he’s definitely explosive,” Myers said. “He can definitely stretch the defense. He can definitely make plays. He’s going to be huge for us.”
Bottom line: Myers sees Wright as a great complement to what he offers, and he believes there’s plenty of room for both to be dynamic contributors in Jeff Tedford’s offense.
Joe is interested to see how the tight end position plays out, considering Tedford is known for his fascination with multiple-tight-end sets.

Tim Wright kinda reminds me of a young Shannon Sharp…Imo TE is not a need for this team…

What a difference between our TE position now and last year. I think the Bucs have two good, versatile blocking TEs and two complimentary catching TEs and then they have Stocker. He may have a difficult time making the team this year.

My response is a compliment to what I said earlier this morning. I don’t think that us as fans REALLY know what this team is. We rely on the the local media (some of which is good) and the national media (most of which is bad) we really don’t know our own team. All the FA’s new coaches and systems, plus a new GM makes it very tough ( and yet exciting) to try and figure out what directions they will go with the upcoming draft. For right now I am excited and can’t wait until May 8. HEY ROGER GOODELL instead of moving the draft later how about moving the season up sooner????

Its becoming more and more obvious bucs will draft oline in first round…even though id rather have mack or clownet tchase down cam the first game.

Perhaps Glennon made him look really good last season…

It looks like Tampa is all set at the tight end position this year, especially with that huge tight end we recently signed!

Timothy Wright, will be listed at the top of the depth chart by the end of preseason
April 27th, 2014 at 12:44 pm
@ Brandonbucfan – I like the idea of a July or mid June preseason. Superbowl in December would be perfect!

William ….yep keep the draft in May, but start the season sooner.

What about just converting him to WR since we have such a huge need there? Any opinions?
April 27th, 2014 at 12:55 pm
Nah, no need to make him a WR. He can be a Jimmy Graham type who mostly lines up in the slot against safeties or linebackers or even corners which would be great (as it would mean he’s difficult to defend). Bulk up to about 245-250 and he could become a major weapon.
April 27th, 2014 at 12:56 pm
We need to draft a WR. Keep him at TE. We need a pass catching TE anyway.

At the 1:00 minute mark of his Buccaneer.com locker room interview, Wright says he’s versatile and may play some WR too.

I’d also like to give a shout out to Derrick Brooks! FSU baby! HOF baby! I can’t wait, baby!
I know it’s off topic and I don’t care.
Back on topic.
Tim Wright looked pretty decent last season despite Glennon sucking so much. Is that better now?

I hear that he’s pretty much average at WR but I think he’s going to be a very good TE in a year or two. But who knows what Tedford thinks. I believe he will stay at TE.
April 27th, 2014 at 1:59 pm
If he could play WR…. He’d be a WR! That being said, in today’s NFL, pass catching “specialist” TE’s like him line up at “wr” a lot, 40-60% of plays. Lining up spaced off the tackle, in the slot, in the backfield, or outside after a formation shift are the versatile options for his type of “TE” but not quick or shifty enough to be a true “WR”. So there you go.
April 27th, 2014 at 2:27 pm
Keep him at TE and he shouldn’t bulk up any more. Those dramatic weight changes never seem to work out well.

Trying to pinpoint if joe is taking a shot at time wright or not but Wright really developed and performed in big moments last year.
One of the very few mark dominik gems being plucked off the street after the draft. The type of offense what seems to be in place wright seems like a logical fit. TE doesn’t have to be a great blocker. Adequate is fine with me if he’s good in the pass game.
April 27th, 2014 at 3:01 pm
Tim started fourth or fifth and injuries kept moving up through camp. Undrafted hidden gem. Could have a big year, I bet he already loves the mysterious offense.
April 27th, 2014 at 3:16 pm
Joe,
Why don’t you guys ever get stories from the Chris Landry segments with Demig – that guy really knows his stuff!
April 27th, 2014 at 3:28 pm
I wouldn’t call him a Dominik gem, this is credited to Schiano
April 27th, 2014 at 8:21 pm
Tim Wright is a slow WR, but a decently fast & dynamic TE. He’s too slow to get open vs corners, but good against LB’s & safeties. Not too difficult to figure out. (+ dominick said that last year)
April 27th, 2014 at 10:50 pm
LOL, Shiano was right about one thing. Yup, Rutgers does have a few good players…Just ask Bill. We have out Te set too. Thanks Bill.
April 28th, 2014 at 10:29 am
Rutgers close proximity to NYC caused some players to stay close to Momma like Ray Rice.
The Little General just played them out of position usually.

if he can continue to bulk up we might have one of our best value finds since donald penn, but i am still in need of convincing. i’m rooting for him to prove he can be as dangerous as some are projecting
