More Notes From Day 1 Of Minicamp

April 22nd, 2014

tricia cusmano 2Here are some more sights and sounds Joe jotted down while watching the full practice on Day 1 of Bucs voluntary minicamp from the practice fields of One Buc Palace.

* Quarterbacks are practicing tossing the ball to each other while running the width of the field. Joe hasn’t seen this since he played in high school. Why practice throwing on the run? Joe will let you do the math.

* Roughly 20 minutes or so into practice, Joe has yet to see a ball hit the ground with quarterbacks throwing to receivers running routes. And just as Joe typed this, Lavelle Hawkins drops a pass.

* Mason Foster sticks like glue to Doug Martin who is coming out of backfield over the middle on a pass route and Foster hits Martin with a legal shiver hard enough to disrupt the Muscle Hamster’s route as the pass sails over his head.

* Fullback Josh Baker makes a beautiful, over-the-shoulder catch from Mike Kafka along the right sideline.

* Tight end Brandon Myers stretches out to haul in a pass from Mike Glennon.

* Former Bucs commander Greg Schiano may be gone but biting the football remains.

* Jonathan Casillas not as good of coverage on Doug Martin as Foster was. On a pass route over the middle, Martin gets separation to make a clean catch.

* Another difference from last year? Aside from a few encouraging words from coaches, there’s no hollering at all.

* Lovie Smith leisurely walking around, checking on stations. Quite the contrast from the sprinting and yelling of Schiano.

* Initially, the starting guards on the first team offense are Oniel Cousins at left guard and Patrick Omameh at right guard. Jamon Meredith also took reps at right guard.

* Scrimmaging begins – such as scrimmaging is when players are in shorts, helmets and no pads — and the air is suddenly filled with assistants barking orders from all corners.

* Track star Jeff Demps catches a pass in the left flat and zigs and zags his way through several would-be tacklers.

* On a pass down the middle, Major Wright goes for the pick, misses, and Hawkins secures the ball for a big gain.
Bucs seem to be working on a lot of short passes over the middle to both running backs and tight ends.

* Those new chrome helmets absolutely light up in the sun.

    I expect some guard complaints…

I wonder if Myers surprises some people. Wright was lined up at TE, correct?

  2. Nick H Says:

Any pics of said helmets or is their a ban on that sort of stuff so early?

  3. Nick H Says:

Not that I haven’t seen them but curious to see them on the field in any way, shape or form

Joe’s phone camera sucks. Plus, not close enough to the field to get a decent shot of sun gleaming off the helmets.

  5. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I wonder if sun reflecting off the chrome will cause vision issues at times for WRs.

  6. biff barker Says:

    and so it begins…

  7. Bangkok Buc Says:

I lived in Thailand for 7 years and thought the 5000+ Thai women ads were marketed specifically on my tastes.

If you have been to Thailand, you definitely wouldn’t complain ; )

  8. Architek Says:

I’m so stoked about my Bucs and here’s to a new era of football.

    Welcome home Lovie!!!

  9. Joe Says:

The 5000+ Thai women seeking love ad on Joebucsfan.com is probably a good place to start to find out why your readers

    Richard:

The only ads Joe controls are the locals ads. National ads, Joe has zero control over — repeat: zero. Often, what is on your cookies often helps determines what ad feed you receive. For example, if you live in Alabama, it’s likely you will be fed ads that correspond with either your IP address or your cookies, such as Alabama car dealerships, etc. A former Bucs coach told Joe once that his only gripe with the site was that he kept getting “CougarLife.com” ads. Joe has never spoken to or corresponded with anyone representing CougarLife.com. It was a national feed the coach was getting based on something on his cookies. Insert your own punchline, there.

Frankly, Joe has never seen the ads you speak of about Thai women, but it does pique Joe’s interest.

Joe, Any mattress or stripper pole sightings….and what did it look like out there without Myron?
Did JF show up on time?….oh, that’s right….he’s gone!!!

JF meaning Josh Freeman…..not Johnny Football!!!

  12. Barry Says:

TKras writes that Smith likes what he’s seeing from Glennon. Makes nice throws. Just fyi.

  13. Ernest T. Bass Says:

Did someone mention 5,000 hot Thai women? Awesome minicamp notes!!Ernest loves crack, keep the updates coming. Omameh is my candidate for the Tim Wright Newbee Thrown Into the Fire award this year!! Running backs need to catch, James will have a big year.

Think your redirects are coming from games like candy crush….

  15. Chef Paul Says:

Richard, I think Joe, in a round about way, told you to quit watching so much damn porn, and you wont have so many problems.

  16. brandonbucfan Says:

Nice job Joe–as always what we can expect from you!

  17. richardtyson Says:

    Joe,

    Thank you for your response.

No, Joe has plenty of control over ads. Obviously, Joe could remove them all or some. However, the national ads that come in are not ones Joe picks and chooses specifically. One or more of them appear to be causing a redirect for some mobile users. It’s an intermittent issue Joe is working on. Not a rare problem on many sites. —Joe

  18. Buc1987 Says:

  19. Buc1987 Says:

@Joe thanks for you’re once again outstanding coverage for us. Before the internet we we’re basically in the dark until the draft and training camp.

    Then along comes Joe.

Joe did you come from Heaven?

  20. SeanyMac in SC Says:

Joe, I love these types of articles. Are the new helmets like blinding in the sun?

  21. Scoobs Says:

Reporter asked Carl Nicks what was the source of the MRSA? Carl said a filthy mattress. On Mondays Scott Smith will bring all mattresses to a local car wash.

  22. BarberBucFan Says:

Dont be fooled boys. Tedford will have Smith in the slot. Big body , big target! 3rd and 5 is now a play we have options on.
