Crazy Busy Days For Bucs Fans
April 22nd, 2014If you’re not among the crazy fans who live and breathe Bucs football 24/7, then you may not realize the first minicamp of the Lovie Smith regime runs today through Thursday at One Buc Palace.
It marks the first time Bucs coaches will get players on the field, versus strictly classroom and conditioning work.
Yes, Joe will be out there gathering news, nuggets and nonsense to share with you.
Officially, there is no contact allowed at practice, so linemen, linebackers and safeties don’t have as many chances to show off their skills, when compared to receivers, quarterbacks and cornerbacks.
Several returning Buccaneers could use a strong showing. Their performance, or lack thereof, could alter the team’s thinking entering the NFL Draft.
Jeff Demps is a perfect example, assuming he’s healthy and on the field. Lovie himself said he can’t wait to watch “the fastest man in the NFL” practice. Well, if Demps lines up at receiver this week and catches the ball consistently and looks like a legitimate deep threat, then maybe the Bucs lean toward drafting different types of receivers next month.
Stick with Joe throughout today and all week long for practice observations and so much more.

Can’t wait for this season….I think Mike James will prove to be a HUGE part of this offense and one of the better up and coming backs in the league.

@ Joe,
I’ve never complained about the redirect before, just because I didn’t notice it much. Has something new been added on your end? I’ve been redirected over 20 times the past 2 days. Never thought it was a problem till now. Just curious
Intermittent glitch only for some mobile readers. Joe’s trying to get to the bottom of it. –Joe

Enjoy your day, Joe!!! Wish we all could be there. We’ll just have to live vicariously through you today.
Just don’t forget, at the end of the day, to tell us how incredibly awesome Glennon was. 😉

@Joe-
How about a list of things you are looking to see this week?
Lets’ not go bananas here. It is no-contact football and guys aren’t even supposed to be in premium shape. That said, the receivers, QBs and corners get to show quite a bit. –Joe

He’s putting his eggs in the Jeff Demps basket? A glorified sprinter who plays when he wants to? He might be suited as a #3 but they still need to take a WR in the draft early regardless of if he decides to play for a whole season for once..I will say that with Mike Evan’s size and Demp’s speed, that would create nightmare match ups across the board. The only question is Demp’s commitment to football

I wont expect much coverage on Glennon since the mere sight of him probably gives you migraines….but thats ok, you were wrong about Freefree too! I hope Glennon shows up looking like a 1st rounder!! Go Glennon!

We all want to know what the offense looks like and how the QBs were throwing? I agree James could have a big year. He came in bigger and is a good receiver also.

@madmax
are you kidding, we will get alot of coverage of Glennon, it will be slanted of course. Just like last years training camp coverage of the QB’s

Even if he’s not practicing. Please keep an eye out for Nick’s big toe.

Owusu runs a 4.36 not as fast as Demps, but atleast he’s a WR.

Jeff Demps is a real wild card. If he could elevate his game to Joey Galloway level and become the deep threat we’ve missed since Joey..this team could really be dangerous. Imagine two tall physical possession receivers in VJAX and Mike Evans with Demps to stretch the field. Then Tim Wright getting free in the middle…2 great running backs….if we get even competent OL play this team should move the chains!!!!

“Imagine two tall physical possession receivers in VJAX and Mike Evans”
I already have many times. It puts a smile on my face too.

One thing Glennon has is a good arm and I have no doubt he will show he can make all the throws that he will have to make in a game. Hopefully, on his own he has improved his footwork some too, because that needed work.
I also know he will show poise in the pocket because he showed that well in practice last year, and in Preseason, and in the first half of games. His problem is that showing all those things will not be enough to prove he can develop into an elite QB. He looked good in the minicamp and practices last year. His problems in games are that he is one of the worst speed in space QBs I have ever seen and that is something that is glaring in all the game tape Tedford and Lovie have watched. In the second half of games he just melted under the pressure and could not bring his team back for a win in the fourth quarter (which Josh Freeman excelled at as a rookie QB) and his placement on his short throws and his accuracy on long throws to anywhere but down the middle was off in real game situations. All that is clear on his tape last year. He can’t overcome that impression by looking good in noncontact minicamps this year.
What Tedford will be able to see is how well our present receivers can run their routes, how fast they are, and what kind of hands they have in noncontact situations, what kind of shape they are in, and how well they have been studying the playbook so far. Lovie will be able to see how fast his defensive players are, what shape they are in, and how well our CBs can read the QB and run to the ball for interceptions, and how well they are understanding their responsibilities in the Tampa Two Scheme.
i will look forward to hearing Joe’s reports.

Im a bit interested to see how Glennon performs. It will also be nice to get the lateat on Nicks,although I dont expect any good news.

Show Tedford whatcha got Mikey! or You’re out of here. There are a lot of QB’s in this draft that can be developed.(Even Manzeil over time can be developed) If he thinks he can’t develop you then you’re out of here.
So show em what ya got Mikey!

You don’t know Joe very well, do you?

Personally, I see no reason to chase Glennon out. He can become a good backup.
