Kyle Moore Not One Of The “Fast Guys”

Defensive coordinator Jim Bates likes those speedy edge rushers who pin their ears back and get to the quarterback. It seems fourth round pick DE Kyle Moore is not one of those guys.
Moore is a nice player who ran a 4.9-second 40-yard dash time at the combine, which is not very impressive for a defensive end. It’s always been Joe’s opinion that his time is just not fast enough to get it done in Bates’ system.
So it’s no surprise to read in the St. Pete Times that Bates is looking for ways to use Moore inside.
Rookie DE Kyle Moore said he has been working as a pass rusher from the undertackle position, a role he played at Southern Cal.
“They’re putting me as the three-technique as a rusher inside to give some of those guards some problems,” Moore said. “That’s what (defensive coordinator Jim Bates) wants to do. He wants that go package, he wants some fast guys in there. USC did the same thing with me, put some of the faster guys on the outside and put me inside.”
Joe is excited by Roy Miller’s potential and a possible resurrection of Stylez White, but the D-line again looks like a glaring weakness for 2009.

Stylez White, Joe are you kidding? I think you’ve twisted the intent of the St. Pete Times article in order to fit your incessant bagging of the team, its players, and it’s decisions. The guy was brought,I believe, to stop the run. If they can get some pass rush from him great, but they’re trying to get bigger and stouter at the point of attack. What does his 40 time have to do with anything? Did a good 40 make Gaines Adams any better? Did it translate to him holding firm at the point of attack? No and no! We’ll see what this kid can do.

Chris, c’mon. To say JoeBucsFan.com incessantly bags on the team is ridiculous, especially when you consider that in this post, we praise White and Miller and call Moore a nice player. How exactly is that bagging on the team and players. If you can explain that, I’ll be very impressed.
Secondly, there is no “intent” behind the St. Pete Times story to twist. It’s simply a quote from Kyle Moore telling the world he’s not very fast. His lack of speed is one of the reasons he was a projected fourth round pick. That’s no surprise. There is nothing wrong him, or the pick. He was decent value in Round 4. You’ve never read otherwise here. Never. …As for stopping the run, Mark Dominik himself talked about how the Bucs threw out sack totals when scouting defensive ends and just focused on the film.
