Veteran Tight End Brandon Myers Is A Buccaneer
March 11th, 2014Depth, experience, durability and production were added to the Bucs’ tight end corps today with the signing of former Giants and Raiders tight end Brandon Myers. He caught 126 balls over the past two seasons, including 47 catches for 522 yards with New York last year.
A sixth-round pick of Oakland in 2009, Myers blossomed in 2012 and bolted for the Giants where he earned $2.25 million last season in the first year of a four-year deal. The Giants cut him and now he’s a Buccaneer.
ESPN reports he’ll earn a $2 million this year with the Bucs.
Joe can’t speak much for Myers’ blocking, but he is a bigger body at 6-4, 250 pounds. With Myers, Wright and Tom Crabtree, and Luke Stocker in the final year of his four-year rookie deal, the Bucs at least have a diverse mix of experience and talent at the position.

The team needed another TE, although I’m not sure how Tedford uses them in his system. The offense seems like a mystery at this point.

From what I’ve read he’s a liability everywhere but as a pass catcher. Sounds kinda like Tim Wright no?

Man, I didnt know we would be THIS active in free agency, but I can dig it! Keep bringing in players!

sounds kinda like what luke stocker was supposed to be but never was. i guess when you’re planning to cut darelle revis you can do awesome stuff like pay $2 million to a TE you hope is #3 on your depth chart when the season begins.

I wonder if we will have enough money to grab Ware or Allen?
March 11th, 2014 at 4:45 pm
@pick
I agree…

@Andrew 1
Yeeeeeaah Buddy!!!
March 11th, 2014 at 4:47 pm
Solid pick up…does everything pretty well. I could see them getting rid o’s stocker and Crabtree if they only carry two TEs.
March 11th, 2014 at 4:49 pm
Keep signing mediocrity while letting go of your pro bowlers, that has to bode well for 2014 ಠ_ಠ

Nice 1-2 punch in TWright/BMeyers.
March 11th, 2014 at 4:56 pm
Well it’s better than Luke Stocker at least.
If they wash their hands of Revis, I better see either Allen or Ware in a Bucs uniform. No excuses!
March 11th, 2014 at 5:04 pm
I was hoping we’d draft a TE but this seems like a solid pickup.

KansasBuc and Patrick, I don’t see Ware as a fit in Lovie’s defense. And IMHO, they’d be better off signing two or three d-linemen for the same salary that Allen would command. The Seattle approach of rotating multiple linemen is the in-vogue movement, and I think we’ll see the Bucs line with eight or nine solid players (not counting Bowers) by training camp. With the addition of Michael Johnson and Clinton Bennett to go with McCoy, Clayborn, Gholston, and if you count Spence, that gives them six players serviceable or better at the moment.
I’ll be surprised if any more additions bigger than the contract they gave Johnson are added.

Dallas cuts Ware!
March 11th, 2014 at 5:06 pm
Center Evan Dietrich-Smith on a plane headed to Tampa. Lovie ain’t playin’!
March 11th, 2014 at 5:06 pm
The operative word is durable. You can’t be productive sitting in the tub. Stocker can’t stay healthy.
March 11th, 2014 at 5:06 pm
I’d drop Stocker and keep Crabtree with Myers and Wright
March 11th, 2014 at 5:09 pm
Does Zuttah slide over to RG? 620 WDAE just resigned Jamon Meredith.
March 11th, 2014 at 5:11 pm
That would be quite impressive to see our D-line line up on the ball with Ware, Mcdonald, Mccoy and Johnson. SCARY
March 11th, 2014 at 5:12 pm
Could be a good year for us.
March 11th, 2014 at 5:18 pm
Stocker is the odd man out. He was a bust from day 1

“Keep signing mediocrity while letting go of your pro bowlers, that has to bode well for 2014 ಠ_ಠ”
Joseph maybe, but I hope you’re not talking about Revis,
March 11th, 2014 at 6:42 pm
I like this guy, good pass catcher. Yes, Stocker is gone. Maneri the 280 pounder will be the blocking TE. Have to wait and see if Crabtree stays or not. Are they going to convert Wright to WR the position he played in college? Time will tell.
March 11th, 2014 at 7:52 pm
^ Unlikely Wright could compete at WR lining up against CBs. Not enough speed. I imagine he’ll remain what he is – a receiving TE. Who knows how Tedford plans to use TEs in the offense though? Supposedly the Bucs were going after Garrett Graham. I wonder if that’s still in the works.

@ Johngru “That would be quite impressive to see our D-line line up on the ball with Ware, Mcdonald, Mccoy and Johnson. SCARY”
It sure would. we would have a good rotation inside and out.
