Jason Licht Speaks On Joseph Release

March 8th, 2014

It is the first big move of the Jason Licht regime and it was a big one, when eight-year starting right guard Davin Joseph was released this morning. The Bucs didn’t even try to rework his contract.

After the news, Licht released the following statement concerning his decision to part ways with one of the best community activists on the Bucs and an all-around good guy.

“Decisions like this are never easy when it comes to parting ways with players such as Davin,” Licht said. “We thank Davin for his contributions on and off the field during his eight years in Tampa Bay and we wish him well in the future. Every decision we make during this time leading up to free agency is with the intention of improving our roster and building towards becoming a championship team once again.”

So now one would have to think the Bucs will be big time in the market for an offensive lineman or two. To bank on Carl Nicks’ return is dangerous. He has only suited up for nine games the past two years. Jeremy Zuttah can play both left guard, right guard and center. So at least the Bucs will be looking for either one guard and a center or two guards.

Darren Sproles just got released by the Saints…talk about a TERRIBLE move on their behalf IMO…great for us. Any chance we go after him?

  2. Architek Says:

I don’t want Sproles – he’s past his prime and he’s been concussion riddled.

  3. pablo Says:

    Cut demps and sign Sproles.
Cut penn and sign Eugene Monroe for 10 mill a year

    …and draft a LT

  6. Rrsrq Says:

The McKay-Dungy era always had a backup ready to come in when a player of this magnitude was released, this is where Dominik failed, no quality back up plan

  7. BucNasty Says:

We want De La Puente the Zuttah back at guard

  8. biff barker Says:

    Thanks and good luck Davin.

Does that sound like more cuts or changes may be coming before Tuesday at 4:00pm?

  10. Architek Says:

More cuts coming for sure! Finally legitimacy…

  11. Barry Says:

You don’t get the job done then you’re cut. He wasn’t worth the money.

Good luck Davin, a good replacement – http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/players/playerpage/1115082/jon-asamoah

I be the will end up in either Atlanta or Miami. Great guy and I’m sad to see him go. Not sad about clearing out 6 million bucks of salary cap space however.

  14. ButIt941 Says:

I hope we try and trade Penn for a 3rd round draft pick (this year) Go out grab Euguene Monroe and Geoff Schwartz ((G) Chiefs) OR De La Puente ((C) Saints) and kick Zuttah over to a guard spot and use the newly acquired 3rd round pick on another Guard/Center to finish the O-Line. Would spend about as much as we have invested in the line now with way more upside and possible production.

*Also side note, I REALLY hope we grab Sam Shields and Brandon Spikes. Shields more so than anyone else besides Eugene and a elite DE. I like Spikes as a true MLB and kick Foster to Sam where i feel he will become elite!

  15. DallasBuc Says:

I hope these guys know what they are doing. Hard to see that happen

  16. Vincente Says:

They have a plan. Let’s just wait and see how they are gonna take care of the roster. I’m confident that the pieces are going to come together real soon. This is going to get really good. Good luck #75 and thank you for everything you did for the bucs

  17. gotbbucs Says:

“I hope we try and trade Penn for a 3rd round draft pick (this year)”

    Unbelievably delusional.

  18. gotbbucs Says:

Shields signed with GB and Spikes would be an awful choice for a 4-3 middle LB.

  19. Buccfan305 Says:

Good luck D-Joe. You will be missed… Thanks for all the hard work you did for the Bucs on and off the field… #75

  20. Chris Says:

    Zuttah is next.

  21. Trubucfan22 Says:

Sorry to see Joseph go. His injury slowed him down last year, I’m was convinced he was going to come back this season revitalized and back better than ever. But that’s just me being optimistic. Good luck davin. Hope you prove me right.

    Dominik didn’t cut Joseph.

Licht probably has a plan, otherwise he wouldn’t have cut Joseph. Is this stuff really that hard to follow. Licht and lovie will be brining in a ton of new players. This roster will be total different from last season. A lot of the same starters on defense but a revamped dline and oline are much needed.

  23. Jonny 2.3 Says:

I like how many posters here pretend like they watch the game seriously when they say Joseph only played bad because of injury.

  24. Rod1252 Says:

That was a bad move. Towards the end of the season Davin was just mauling defensive linemen. This is too good of a linemen to let go. Litch should’ve studied the film better. I wish you the best Davin.
