Pats, Broncos Trying To Get Revis?
March 1st, 2014It all started early this week when CBS Sports NFL insider Jason La Canfora wrote that NFL teams have called the Bucs to kick the tires on a trade for all-world cornerback Darrelle Revis. Given the words of Bucs coach Lovie Smith and general manager Jason Licht, that doesn’t appear likely barring an earth-shattering deal.
Chatter about this checking of the price tags has ricocheted around the league and still is having ripple effects. It’s the talk of the NFL as free agency looms in 10 days. So leave it to the creator, curator and overall guru of ProFootballTalk.com, the great Mike Florio, to put his ear to the rail to try to find out what teams were calling the Bucs.
By listening to insiders and doing a modicum of research, Florio believes the Broncos and Patriots are hunting Revis.
Both teams have aging franchise quarterbacks who have managed to contend but not conquer in recent years. Both teams are running out of chances to finish the job.
For New England, paying Revis a $1.5 million roster bonus, a $1.5 million workout bonus, and a $13 million base salary could be a much more desirable alternative than giving a big-money, multi-year deal to Aqib Talib. Thanks to Aaron Hernandez, the Patriots would be taking a huge risk by making a big investment in another player with a history of off-field trouble. With the market for Talib believed to be more robust this year than last, the Pats likely won’t be able to pull off another one-year, $5 million can-kicking contract.
Then again, the Broncos could make a more attractive offer. Dumping cornerback Champ Bailey and his $10 million cap number and swapping in Revis would result in a net cap increase of $6 million — but a dramatic increase in on-field ability. While Revis may not give the Broncos enough to close the 35-point gap with the Seahawks, it’s not a bad start.
Florio makes a few salient points. First, only a team that can clear $16 million in cap space can get Revis. That leaves a shallow pool of potential trade partners. Also, as Florio points out, if such a trade happened, it likely would have to consummate no later than a week from Thursday, March 13, as that is the date the Bucs owe Revis a $1.5 million pay out.
Frankly, Joe isn’t holding his breath on Revis being traded. It is pretty clear Lovie wants him. Licht seems inclined as well. Lovie and Licht are hoping to turn the Bucs around quickly. You don’t do that by unloading at worst the second-best corner in the NFL. The Bucs already have enough holes, right? So why dig a crater in the secondary?
Are Bucs fans that short-sighted that they don’t remember the movie about the Bucs defense that debuted just after the 2012 season: “Friday the 13th: The Bucs Cornerbacks?”
March 1st, 2014 at 6:12 pm
Joe best case scenerio is 6-10’next year- we can sign two solid corners for 6 million have depth at the postion get high pick etc- people are just now starting to see how little talent we have around the edges- it’s going to take 3’good drafts and solid free agent additions to get back into the mix again.
March 1st, 2014 at 6:15 pm
I remember all too well, Joe.
Elite players are like gold. You can’t get an elite player in the NFL by going to free agency because they are never there. You acquire them by drafting players that turn out great (a la Derrick Brooks) or taking a risk on an injured elite player (Manning, Brees, Revis).
Once you have those guys, you never let them go, ever. Because no other team will.
March 1st, 2014 at 6:16 pm
With a couple of good pass rushers and Lovie’s scheme I see our defense being much improved, even without Revis. Plus we managed 4-12, with Revis.
Offensively we are staring down the barrel of the worst in the league with only a couple of playmakers in Martin and Jackson, without a legit QB to build around and only five picks.
Disaster. Thinking that is gonna cut it is the essence of shortsighted.
Get the broncos first rounder, trade up, get JF and this thing looks way better. (Plus we get our third rounder back) it’s the smart play.
March 1st, 2014 at 6:16 pm
Sold to the highest bidder. Let the auction begin at a low 1st round draft pick and there 4th.
March 1st, 2014 at 6:17 pm
If I recall correctly, there has only been like 1 team that’s ever won a Super Bowl without having a past or future player of the year or league MVP on the team. They can say what they want about selling a Ferrari for two Fords, but you’ll never win the Super Bowl that way.
March 1st, 2014 at 6:18 pm
No and No
None have high first round picks.
Oh and No regardless
March 1st, 2014 at 6:19 pm
@destinjohnny I have to disagree man. We were in contention for most of the games we played with schiano, rly until the second half of last season. So we have no reason to believe that a professional coaching staff and a few additions shouldn’t add at least 4 wins. I think we will finish in the 9-10 range. If we add 1 edge rusher our D is immensely better.
March 1st, 2014 at 6:22 pm
Okay Joe, serious question: If trading Revis gave the Bucs the fire power for JFF, would you ” dig a crater in the secondary” then?
March 1st, 2014 at 6:23 pm
Yep on d not as bad Indy but offense is so bad wow
March 1st, 2014 at 6:24 pm
@PRBucFan
BINGO.
Good players get good results. You need great players to get great results.
March 1st, 2014 at 6:24 pm
Revis would have gone to the pats if Schiano was still here but now he is not going anywhere unless they offer us their QBs and a first round pick.
March 1st, 2014 at 6:38 pm
If they give us legit draft picks i’d do it in a heart beat
March 1st, 2014 at 6:45 pm
Would anyone be surprised if Revis asked to be traded?
March 1st, 2014 at 6:46 pm
Are Elite players, are traded, released for cap reasons by winning and losing organizations? Yes
On a fundemental level, can we get a player that has value in Lovie’s & Frazier’s system at a cheaper price? Yes. Are these players available this year in Free Agency? Yes! How about the draft? Yes.
So If you can acquire additional cap space, plus acquire premium cap friend draft prospects why not jump at it? We are not one player away from a Championship.
March 1st, 2014 at 6:51 pm
Our Ferrari has a damaged tire and is an older model.
And we got a pinto at QB……
March 1st, 2014 at 7:00 pm
If it got us the picks to get make sure we can draft Bortles and another 1st round talent yes, if not were getting robbed. We paid BIG for Revis when no one knew if he would be great again, when he’s just now getting back to 100% we have to get a big return if we trade him…
March 1st, 2014 at 7:02 pm
what good does a Ferrari do you when you are in a desert???
March 1st, 2014 at 7:04 pm
I watched a lot of great players on losing teams.
I watched the Dallas Cowboys go
• 1985 (10–6)
• 1986 (7–9)
• 1987 (7-8)
• 1988 (3–13)
Then in 89′ they sign one of the greatest coaches/football minds ever. Of course you do remember what he next right? That same coach traded their best prospect, (star running back Herschel Walker) to the Minnesota Vikings for multiple players and draft picks.
The draft picks would later become the corner stones of a Dynasty. You see Jimmy Johnson knew, the roster he inherited wasn’t one player or one year away from a championship.
March 1st, 2014 at 7:19 pm
We own his rights. He says he’s 100% healthy. I want to see what a $1,000,000.00 a game CB looks like. Lock Revis up (mano y mano) on every play to defend the opponents best WR., and lets see what perfection in motion looks like (if he still has it). Let the rest of the defense play in cover 2 zone.
I’m stoked and counting on watching Revis eat pineapple this year, not just on popularity, but, because he actually earned it.
March 1st, 2014 at 7:21 pm
He’s as good as gone. His value has spiked, 1st & 2nd this year and two picks next year. This is a nice year to have extra picks and we aren’t going to the SB. Revis will be smoking legal w33d in a couple weeks and we’ll be drooling over our rookies
March 1st, 2014 at 7:26 pm
I hope we go after Sam shields and keep revis. Have him mentor shields and banks. Keep revis he’s to good. Go bucs! 10-6 atleast. Wooooo!!!
March 1st, 2014 at 7:27 pm
The Bucs are in the driver’s seat. They appear happy to have Revis and don’t want to trade him (probably). Teams believe he could be available for the right price. The Bucs, not terribly motivated to move him, can wait for a ridiculous trade offer. Two number one draft picks gets it done. Nothing less.
March 1st, 2014 at 7:31 pm
No way we should trade him unless its for about 4 picks 1,2,3 & 4th round….
March 1st, 2014 at 7:34 pm
Why would we give up a late first when we traded a high first to get him when he was injured… Look sign Greg Hardy pass rush problems solved with him and McCoy playing together. That also let’s us draft BPA instead of needs
March 1st, 2014 at 7:37 pm
Our defense with Revis is like a REALLY REALLY REALLY crappy car with nice wheels. Sell the wheels and put the money towards a new car.
March 1st, 2014 at 7:40 pm
TMZ has more creditability than Jason La Canfora….
March 1st, 2014 at 7:41 pm
1st rnd that low even doesn’t sound appealing to me.. I’m in for a trade but the price we paid for an unknown Revis was 1st round (13 if i recall well) + 3rd this year. I’m willing to listen to offer including OL or WR and 1st rnd+ at leats 3rd this year if they can fill immediate need too
March 1st, 2014 at 7:42 pm
It’s hard to imagine, one year later, that we are possibly entertaining trading Revis, after the Rock Star Mob told us Dom had allegedly “fleeced” the Jets to get him.
March 1st, 2014 at 7:44 pm
Not happening without a hershel walker type trade
March 1st, 2014 at 7:47 pm
Try to get our picks back or as close as you can Licht! The Pop-star overpaid now try to get our picks back!
March 1st, 2014 at 8:01 pm
That’s enough giving our good players away, keep revis, seems like we are always giving pieces of the puzzle away to other teams. Revis is an asset, teams are afraid of him and won’t throw to him even the best. That should tell us to keep him. Take the hit towards the cap find other ways to come up with cap space .
March 1st, 2014 at 8:03 pm
I’d trade for their 1,2 & 3 picks. Revis didn’t look that great last year and maybe he was hurt, but I’d get all I can for him now.
March 1st, 2014 at 8:04 pm
The question is are we one player away from being able to hang with the big boys, the answer is a big no. This draft is so deep and so important to our team. There is a record number of juniors in this draft, and we need help all over the field. Next years draft will not even be close in the level of depth for quality. Grab as many picks in this draft as possible. Build this thing the right way.
March 1st, 2014 at 8:12 pm
I would also like to see Revis traded for a little better than what the team gave up for him, say a first and a third this year and a third next year. If not, no deal. That’s not asking too much since he is so great…?
March 1st, 2014 at 8:12 pm
Just trade him already and get it over with.
March 1st, 2014 at 8:13 pm
Lol!
Everyone here is ready to cut Revis, because he is Expensive.
Yet two of the smartest, winning teams are trying to get him.
Guess they think he’ll play for minimum wage!!
There is a reason they are perrineal winners, and we’ve sucked for the last 7 years.
You aquire greatness, to achieve greatness.
We only have 4 good players on defense
McCoy,David,Goldson, and Revis. Revis is the best of them
The rest are either unproven, our talentless.
If we want to win- we keep Revis happy
Wanna be mediocre? Then trade away our talent
March 1st, 2014 at 8:26 pm
I remember the last draft that was
“THE DEEPEST DRAFT IN HISTORY!!”
Cue the trumpets.
Do we still have anyone from that incredible collection??
I think Revis was in the ProBowl that year, and voted Allpro
Like last year.
Draft picks MAY someday be good players. A few may be great
One MIGHT be the best at his position in the league someday, a once in a generation talent!
Um, like Revis!!
March 1st, 2014 at 8:59 pm
16 million can buy at least 3 players and more importantly we get to keep our 3rd round pick and would lose our 4th rounder instead. And we would add draft picks which we desperately need. Makes too much sense not to do this deal.
March 1st, 2014 at 9:05 pm
1 position do sent win the game no matter how good he is he alone won’t win us the game why not trade him and bring cap and value to our team expecially wen would be avail to free up 16 million we can get another good cb in fa and a good pass rusher you build from the front back not the other way around
March 1st, 2014 at 9:11 pm
Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter on Twitter
Salary cap projected to rise to about $133 million this year, expected to break $140 million next year and $150 million by 2016, per source
If the 49ers, a team that is a couple of pieces away from a Super Bowl, came calling and said that “we’re willing to fork over a 1st and a third, but we can’t handle a 16mil hit to our cap this year”. The Bucs might say “you guys have 2 2nd round and 3 3rd round picks and you’re picking 30th in the draft, make it a 1st and a 2nd (almost a third anyway), we’ll buy down 6 million of his 2014 salary and spread it over the next 2 years as dead money because the cap is going to increase considerably over the next 2 years. Deal?”
The Bucs may go further and say “Listen, you guys are knocking on the door of the SB now and you’re going to lose your pro bowl SS Donte Whitner and we got a guy that is playing out of position as a SS now. You know the guy, Dashon Goldson, he played lights out for you guys in 2012. What will you give us for him? Make it a package deal and you guys get your first SB to go along with your new stadium. Whaddaya say?
Their response obviously is “since you’ve already paid the upfront premium on the Goldson contract and we’ve got 3 3rd round picks, we’ll give you a 3rd round pick for him too and let’s close the deal. But what are you guys going to do”?
The Bucs quickly replied “Oh, we’re going to trade down, pick up another 3 round pick (now we got 2 2’s and 3 3’s) and use one of our 1st round picks to select CB Darqueze Dennard or Justin Gilbert. We’re going to select CB Stanley Jean- Baptiste or Keith McGill in the 3rd round. We’re going to put 25mil back into cap space and bring on Jairus Byrd in FA. His dad is our CB coach and the Bills are bluffing, they are not going to franchise him two years in a row. We’re also going to try to get one of Brent Grimes, Alteraun Verner, Vontae Davis, or Rodgers-Cromartie in FA”. Let’s shake hands and we’ll be looking for you in the playoffs this year”!
Oh, dang it, I forgot to tell you that any day now we’re expecting to close the deal with the Redskins for WR Mike Williams to get our 4th round pick back that we sent to the Jets for Revis! Good looking out fellas”!
March 1st, 2014 at 9:11 pm
And Joe 2012 corners where probably the worse corners in buc history you’re talking about Biggers , Johnson Eric Wright was horrible just because they trade Revis do sent mean withthat cap dey ccan’t go and sign someone else , shields , peanut , grimmes , asante Samuel is even better then All does cb in 2012 and he is a great zone corner people are acting like if we trade him we are not gonna have no corners free agency haven’t even started as well with the car we can get a good Dend as well
March 1st, 2014 at 9:16 pm
No corner will get more than 8 mill a year this year in free agency
March 1st, 2014 at 9:17 pm
Why not trade Revis to the Bronco’s in return for Denver’s Eric Decker and their 1st round pick and a 3rd round next year?
March 1st, 2014 at 9:20 pm
Decker is a free agent and this year’s Draft is supposed to be one of the most deepest drafts in a long time
March 1st, 2014 at 10:18 pm
If we were against the cap and unable to make other moves then I would be for this, but we aren’t. We have plenty of cap room and other players that are for more overpaid in contrast to production than one of the best cover corners in the league.
If they trade him for a proven player at a position of need and a pick, plus pick up a couple corners in free agency then I’m fine with it, otherwise no. Trading him for rookie question marks is not moving forward.
March 1st, 2014 at 10:26 pm
“No corner will get more than 8 mill a year this year in free agency”
You see a bunch of Darrelle Revis’s and Richard Sherman’s out there hitting the market this year, or ever? Can we please stop pretending like these guys grow on trees.
March 1st, 2014 at 10:33 pm
How about Revis to Patriots for Ryan Mallet and their 1st and 4th?
March 1st, 2014 at 10:34 pm
They have said that even if Revis was a free agent he still would get over 10 so even if dey don’t grow on trees you don’t pay a cb 16mil that’s qb money you build from the front seven and go back expecially in a cover 2 scheme he made his bones covering the best corner in a blitzing 3-4 scheme
March 1st, 2014 at 10:36 pm
And Verner from the titans had less than a 60 qbrate throwing against him so he ain’t no slouch nether as well as grimmes coming off of acl injury probably played better then Revislast year
March 1st, 2014 at 10:40 pm
If you think the Bucs would be better off trading down in order to regain the 2nd rounder we don’t have (because of the Revis trade) and stockpiling additional picks, then you CAN NOT disagree with the idea of trading Revis – for the same reasons – except possibly to move up topicj the one thing Lovie covets for this defense – an honest-to-goodness 4-3 rush end…
…and if you don’t think the Bucs are ACTIVELY working this trade – you’re setting yourself up for disappointment!
Anything is possible.
March 1st, 2014 at 11:06 pm
@ bucs55
I don’t like the $16 million either but that shouldn’t be the main drivig force behind a trade in our given situation.
Nobody runs the caveman version of the cover 2 anymore. We will be a man defense on the outside and we have one of the best man corners in the NFL right now and he is on a year to year contract. They should at least let it play out this year baring a monster trade offer.
March 1st, 2014 at 11:10 pm
Anything is possible. Nothing is more likely!
March 1st, 2014 at 11:15 pm
“If you think the Bucs would be better off trading down in order to regain the 2nd rounder we don’t have (because of the Revis trade) and stockpiling additional picks, then you CAN NOT disagree with the idea of trading Revis”
Moving down three or four spots in the draft and trading a top 5 player at a premium position are totally different animals. It’s a 3rd round pick too, not a 2nd.
March 1st, 2014 at 11:33 pm
Stfu with this trade already! And to all of those that wanna trade him. Thank god ur not our gm. If Revis is gone, not only will we need an edge rusher, we’ll need another corner (and we only have 2) and dont u dare say an old Charles Tillman will fill his void.
March 1st, 2014 at 11:49 pm
Well, Ive been saying for some time now that getting rid of Revis would be a very dumb move. Particularly for a team that is absolutely not deep in the secondary, namely the CB position. By all means, you listen to offers and if a deal that is amazing presents itself, thats just being prudent. Revis is special. He’s a lockdown corner that comes along once every 10 years. Remember Mo Claiborne? I was in the “get this guy” mob. I admit that but it just shows you how hard it is to be sure of a CB draft pick. And we would need to hit on some picks if we let Revis go. Im against it unless another team knocks our socks off with their offer.
March 2nd, 2014 at 12:35 am
Ain’t gonna happen.
And if it does i’m ready to hear all the bitchin and moanin about how horrible our secondary is by the same people asking to trade him away lol.
March 2nd, 2014 at 1:04 am
Not the same Revis. Trade him.
March 2nd, 2014 at 1:12 am
I love my Bucs but sometimes our fans can be really silly. Trade Revis for draft picks just so the Pats or Broncos can have one one of the most dominant secondaries and win a championship and we watch another former Buc make us look stupid for giving up on him. If Th salary cap is rising why do we care about money??? A good dine won’t matter if a QB is getting the ball out of his hands less the 3 seconds against us. And won really is going to run a ZONE ALL GAME?!?! C’mon man we have Brees in our division he will eat that cover 2 up trust me Lovie will find away to utilize Revis skillset.
March 2nd, 2014 at 1:14 am
Is Revis going to comeback in 2015 if healthy? If so do the Buccs franchise him? Do the Buccs feel like they can resign him without franchising him to a long term deal? If not, might consider trading him….
March 2nd, 2014 at 1:36 am
I would do whatever I had to do to build a great OL and DL. If that means trading Revis then so be it.
March 2nd, 2014 at 2:15 am
I hope that nobody took my post to say that Revis should be traded. My tongue-in-cheek treatise was meant to convey that if the Bucs want to trade Revis, there are about 20 ways to go about it, as well as anybody else they wanted to move. I could also probably come up with 20 reasons why it shouldn’t be done!
I’m going to let the football people handle this one. There are 3 things that are likely to happen. They will trade him, re-do his contract, or do nothing. Whatever they do I’m all in.
The 16 million dollar question will be answered by the 13th of March or 3 days following the start of the new league year. I can wait!
March 2nd, 2014 at 3:03 am
The Jets traded Revis and did that propel them to the playoffs? No! And it would not get us there either. But KC got a new excellent HC and an above average QB and made the playoffs and so can the Bucs as long as they get one of the top four QBs and pick up some good free agents AND KEEP REVIS. Our top coaching can develop the rest and they have better sense to never trade Revis who is now 100% and should play lights out this year.
March 2nd, 2014 at 3:41 am
Bucs55
” you build from the front, not the back”
No. No
A long time ago- yes.
In today’s Pass oriented NFL- you can build from the Back
Seattle did.
And they are wearing the rings, and one the trophy!
With the 2nd best CB in the league.
Top that-lol
March 2nd, 2014 at 7:45 am
While Im not in love with Revis, I do think we could use him for one more year. But if the trade value is there for us to capitalize on, for the right draft picks, Im also good with doing that. Hopefully he restructures for a more friendly “reduced” rate. I didnt see $1 mill a game’s worth last year.
March 2nd, 2014 at 8:34 am
No one is going to trrade for Revis because Lovie won’t let him go this year.
So this talk is a huge waste of time, generated discussion. Nothing more.
March 2nd, 2014 at 8:39 am
Lovie and Licht are playing this right, Lovie saying how he hits and how valuable Revis is. Meanwhile Licht is in the background wheeling and dealing. Revis roster bonus comes up soon so we will know very soon. But I love the smokescreen. And I will love having ammo for the draft and getting some Free-agents that will fit the new systems.
March 2nd, 2014 at 8:43 am
Tampatrib.
“Their contract with Revis gives them unilateral power to change Revis’s $13 million base salary into a guaranteed bonus. That means they could shave another $9 million or so off their cap with the stroke of a pen, and depending on what they want to do in free agency, they may decide to do that.”
Who is going to replace Revis? A rookie? Old man Tillman?
We’re not actively looking to trade him. We are just listening to ” what ifs”.
Trade Revis? C’mon guys.
March 2nd, 2014 at 8:59 am
I hope the Bucs keep Revis. I’m hoping now that his knee is fully recovered now, we will see the old “Revis Island” again!
March 2nd, 2014 at 9:31 am
For all of you who are all for Revis being traded which I am not for at all, but if the Patriots want to give us Tom Brady for Revis then sure. LOL Draft picks are really overated because they have not done anything at the pro level. Revis is a proven great CB on the PRO LEVEL! folks. Get it through your skulls if possible. You act as though we are in cap trouble and or Revis sucks and should be given away for a few kegs of beer at the CTIS. Totally idiotic but then again just sharing the roads in the Bay area shows that there are more idiots here than not.
March 2nd, 2014 at 9:44 am
I cannot believe how many fools there are that call themselves Bucs fans. BoJim is correct about the contract being able to be restructured to free up cap space plus do not forget the cap is going up 10 Million as well. All of you who want Revis to be dealt due to money and the fact that we were 4-12 with Revis??? I guess with that line of thinking we should get rid of GMC,LVD,Revis,V-Jax, Mike Williams and Muscle Hamster. Heaven forbid we keep any good players around here because after all we went 4-12 with all of them….Idiots!!!
March 2nd, 2014 at 9:47 am
Also, Revis does not care how he gets his 16 Million. Just as long as the money goes into his account and I am sure at that level of income, he sure does not mind being in Florida where we enjoy not being burdened by state income tax.
March 2nd, 2014 at 10:17 am
Realistically, what do you think our records will be in the next 3 years? 6-10 8-8 10-6 with maybe 1 playoff appearance. I’d rather give that money to GMC and David. They impact the team more than Revis. Revis isn’t worth keeping at $16 million a year. I believe won’t be solid and back to normal until the beginning of 2015. That’s a year of recover for the ACL and a year to get mentally strong from the injury. So now were talking about a 31 32 year old corner by the time he’s fully strong and were in position to win the division. We never should have gotten him in the first place. We weren’t one piece away. What did a Revis get us last year? A worse record than the year before and QB’s just targeting Banks and Johnson. Revis’ money alone would give us a CB Sam Shields, CB Brent Grimes, CB Charles Tillman, DT Henry Melton and DE Everson Griffen. Not to mention draft picks. From the Pats or Broncos a 1st 3rd and 4th this year and a 1st next year you can take him.
March 2nd, 2014 at 10:19 am
Wow what a bunch of Homers you are.
The first point of business the Glazers are concerned with is this: MAKE A PROFIT!!!!!!
Dominik OVERPAID for Revis. THIS REVIS IS NOT WORTH 16 MILLION – PERIOD.
He has good trade value to AFC teams on the verge, especially the Bronco’s to replace Champ Baily and the Pats to replace the helmet swinging, cabbie slapping, coach yelling, gun wielding Talib (how’s that Joe?).
The Pats” owe” us something for “giving away” Blount last year. Trade this dude and get as much as you can in return, like maybe a QB (Ryan Mallet) and picks.
The Bucs are as far away from a SuperBowl appearance as Cleveland is from being an attractive tourist destination. Get real people
March 2nd, 2014 at 10:37 am
I am over this debate. It just does not seem at all logical to trade Revis if we can afford him; and he is healthy now by the way. A shut down CB is more than a luxury when you play in the NFC South. I was told by a wise man a long time ago ” Never argue with an idiot since they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience”. We NEED more than an average CB in this division and it is not as if we are loaded with depth in the secondary. Yes we need to add some key pieces to the D-line as well but good coverage compliments a good pass rush and vise versa. Nuff said. Go Bucs!
March 2nd, 2014 at 10:51 am
rajay…the idiot who cant stand other’s opinions who disagree with his/hers and resorts to name calling…smdfh at THAT idiot!

And A rat takes the bait. I never call out anyone by name who I disagree with like you. I only call out by name when I have something polite to say about a post. I guess you must have felt like my posts were an attack against you??? Show me one comment were I bash another reader by their alias. Go ahead and try.

Von Miller and a 2nd and 4th rounder.
or
Jared Allen and a high second.
Something like that.
Basically a superstar DE and high pick (or two).
Absolutely nothing less.
For Revis!

I am not going to apologize for being passionate about my opinions when it comes to my favorite team. I will continue to do so and will also continue to not get into a mud slinging match with any individuals. I see a ton of that going on in the blog world and I will not go to that level. At the end of the day we hopefully are all Bucs fans who simply differ in our opinions on the best way to be a playoff team again. Maybe I should tone down my terms used to describe those who have different views in general even though they are not targetting an individual. I apologize if I offended any fellow Bucs fans. It is sort of a passionate subject like politics and religion. There are many views and everyone thinks their view is the correct one.

If the Bucs keep Revis it just prolongs assembling a team that can compete in the NFC South.

BoJim Says
“Their contract with Revis gives them unilateral power to change Revis’s $13 million base salary into a guaranteed bonus. That means…”
It would be a HUGE mistake to do that. What if they want to only keep him through this year?
Mark Diminick left us with almost no dead money. You are suggesting we create some. Bad business.
I think we all agree Revis is overpaid. But we cannot replace him until we have a suitable replacement. We need him through this year because if we draft his replacement, the new guy will need development, at least a year.
And lets not forget we also need a 3rd CB to cover the slot, because teams are burning us there at present.

Dead money is going to happen, it’s part of this business.
Might as well happen with an elite player.
Revis will remain a Buc for year(s).
Count on it.

They should be better than 6-10 next season. We lost A LOT of real close games with Schiano holding the placard. Tedford being the OC and Lovie running the D…..Atlanta will be at the bottom of the barrel next year.

Mr. Lucky
” the Glazers are in this to make a profit”
With the New TV contracts- if they are 10 million over the salary cap, and Tampa Stadium sat completely empty all season- their profit would still be millions of Dollars.
The Glazers know how to make money. Player contracts don’t endanger their profit margins.
Seems weird that some of us are so worried if a multi billionaire family is gonna lose money!!
They can take care of themselves
With all the Money I’ve spent on that team since 1976- I expect a competitive team on the field for MY Money. They have had Excess cap money for years!!
Spend it!! Get us a good team. I feel I’ve been losing money, investing time and money on a second class product!!!

revis will be worth just as much next year in trade, probably more since we won’t have to protect his knee early in the year and he’ll be in an actual NFL scheme. i’m certain part of lovie’s rationale in choosing the bucs was “i get to trade one of the best CBs ever for draft picks and cap room”. maybe when Lovie’s had a year or 2 to be sure he has the talent to thrive without revis, but right now it creates 1 huge hole and magnifies our deficiency in pass rush, and probably gets us no more than 1 premium pick. to clean the mess up with

correction: “i’m certain part of lovie’s rationale in choosing the bucs was **NOT** “i get to trade one of the best CBs ever for draft picks and cap room”.”
