Mike Florio Talks To Joe
February 21st, 2014There are so many folks to talk to here at the NFL Scouting Combine, Joe’s head is spinning, and no, Joe hasn’t had a drop of alcohol all week. Too busy during the day and too exhausted in his hotel room.
This morning, Joe got a chance to talk Bucs with the creator, curator and overall guru of ProFootballTalk.com, the great Mike Florio.
Florio is usually so busy, the man doesn’t have time to find a men’s room to take care of business. Joe knows the feeling, as the skill position players are blowing through the combine so fast and furiously, Joe’s scared to look the other way. While talking to NFL Films analyst Greg Cosell, Joe damned near missed Eastern Illinois quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who told Joe that Bucs quarterback coach Marcus Arroyo interviewed him last night.
At any rate, Florio dished about the Bucs and he has a belief as to why Team Glazer waved goodbye to former rock star general manager Mark Dominik. Just click the little orange button below, thanks to Joe’s good friends at WDAE-AM 620.

3 – Things
1) Bucs will much better all around and more respectable starting this year under Lovie. Indicting of Schiano coaching and his staff’s schemes.
2) Bucs will draft a QB high and it will be his job to lose vs Glennon.
3) Dominik made his bed and he had to lay in it. He picked those coaches and failed players and he had to own it.

Clarification, Glazers picked Rah before Dominik was named GM. however, 5 years is enough time to evaluate Dominik as a GM and he had to go, regardless of whether he got to pick 2 coaches.

I love how Joe characterizes this whole “can’t win with 4th best QB in the division” as a debate going on in Tampa. Seems to me this is ONLY JBF harping on it. It’s a stupid assertion. Maybe you can get a moron like dooshmig to go along with that kind of idiocy… If you have a division with strong QB play, and yours is the 4th best guy (but still playing well enough), and you play great defense, you can absolutely win. It’s not about ranking players at each position. The game is played on the field, not in some fantasy football ranking scheme.

I don’t hear anybody in Tampa Bay but a tiny minority saying “you can win with the 4th rated QB in the division.”
A leading question, indeed…

@orca, I agree with your sentiments. However at the end of the day, you have to realize this is a blog, not a news outlet. Opinions trump non-opiniated news.
Glennon will have his competition on the field and his critics off the field. Nothing new here. Go Bucs!

Why is he considered the 4th best, he had a better record that one of the other QBs and don’t say about the year before because Glennon’s record the year before was better also.
I will take the worst in the league QB and a SB trophy.
The wins are team wins, did we have the best QB in the SB when we won? I don’t know but we had the best defense that made ours better than theirs. Didn’t this just happen in this years SB?

brad Johnson is way better than mikey. Johnson didn’t have the worst offense and actually led some prolific Vikings teams. now if you want to compare glennon with shaun king…

seriously…

Brad Johnson, if I recall, had the third highest QB rating in the league that year, right behind Rich Gannon…
Of course he had Meeshawn Johnson, Keenan McCardle, Joe Jurivicius, Ken Dilger, Ricky Dudley, The Truth and Micheal Pittman to throw to…all year.

From a pure strategy standpoint if you have a division loaded with exceptional QB talent, the way to dominate is to be counterpunching with a great defense. If you instead just go all in and get an elite QB to match, then you should expect to win the division only once every 4 years because all the teams are identical.

ummm no. 1 every 4 years doesn’t even make sense…seriously?
