Introducing The Buccaneers’ New Helmet
February 20th, 2014Joe is far more interested in who will wear the fancy new helmets rolled out by the Buccaneers today than the helmets themselves. Sorry, Joe’s not passionate about gear.
But here’s the long-awaited new look for the Bucs, as rolled out on NFL Network. Oh, the drama.
As you can see, the Bucs tweaked their logo, too. It’s all good for Joe as long as the Bucs keep their colors and uniforms.

Looks freakin’ terrible!! All 3 of the NFL teams in Florida changed their logos for the worse. The Dolphins made their cool looking dolphin look like a dumb whale, and both the Jags and Bucs have logos similar to their previous ones only they look like they were drawn in a Kindergarten class!! Rather have Bucco Bruce back!

The new font for the buccaneers text logo absolutely sucks though and takes away a lot of the personality.

I think the darker pewter looks much cooler than that weak, almost beige-like background color from before. But that way oversized logo looks like it was drawn by a kindergartener. I mean, can it be any bigger?

Its not a line, its a vent through the helmet. Helmet is fine, its that terrible logo that does it for me. Went to the Bucs official site and it looks even worse without being on the helmet. Look at the old one nec t to the new one. Looks like a 5 year old drew it.

I like the helmet a lot. Got a feeling everyone else will once they get used to it. I don’t really like the logo itself, and definitely don’t like the font (I paid $50 for that damn Totally Gothic font, just to irritate my friends and employees that aren’t Bucs fans). At the end of the day, who gives a sh!t? They could do whatever they want to the logo and I’d still wear it. It’s really not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things.

I’m not so sure Sapp is sold on it either. Even if he “said” he likes it. Sapp is not a monotone kinda guy. If he truly liked it he would have been far more animated. McCoy seemed to have liked it less. What else are they gonna say….what a terrible mistake, on national television?

Only team in FLA to get a new look right were the Rays. The Marlins, Dolphins, Jags, Bucs, and Lightning all failed though the Lightning wasn’t too bad. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Now all we can hope for is that the new unis aren’t as cartoonish.

I like the big logo on the helmet, but not a fan of the slight tweaks to the actual logo. I didn’t think the old logo was too “cartoony” as some claim, and the old skull had a little more character to it.

It also looks less brown than the old ones more of a metalic grey. Black vent slits at the top look mean. Chrome grill is sharp. Logo looks like shit like it always did just bigger

History of Bucs Unis.
77 from orange numbers on away tops in 76 to red numerals w orange trim. 91 bucs increased size of Bucco Bruce on helmet slightly.
92 bucs went to Orange Pants and white tops as all around uniform unless road team chose white top for their home. 97 was birth of pewter and 2014 is new deal!

I like the change, the new helmets look great to me and I would have been okay with more change if it was the right change. Best helmet in the league. I don’t know why people are so opposed to it. I hate Oregon in CFB but would love to see that type of imagination with my teams.

We’ll all get use to it. I don’t think it was necessary to begin with. Since they decided to do this, i was kind of hoping for something completely diffrent, or maybe the creamsickle color against a black background. IMO it’s not really a new logo it was just tweeked a little. But it dosen’t matter. If fans had to choose between the sharpest Eye Candy Logo with a loosing record, and an Ugly Logo with a winning record, The ugly logo will always sell more jerseys.

Just having fun with you. I respect your opinion. Everybody should be having fun with it because it’s not going to change soon. They may end up reducing the size of the flag because that’s the change that stands out.
Change always causes a few hiccups but we eventually adjust and go along. Relax and say something crazy like the rest of the posters here tonight and have a little fun. This is no big deal!

My last comment on this but I think the reason why they went with a bigger flag is because they wanted a helmet that was mostly red. The way you do that is by making the flag bigger. If thats what they were trying to do then mission accomplished. just my thoughts g night.

Meh.. Why complain about the attention? It’s news we haven’t had to digest for 15 years.
And meh, the helmet is okay; good in some ways, but the size/proportion of the flag/graphic a bit … I dunno, silly?
Where it gets sub-meh is in the typographical part of it. I mean, the old lettering was pretty bad; this was a chance to make an improvement.
I agree it’s all a wash if the team and the new leadership bring some actual success.

@joe – perhaps unnoticed was a poor choice of words. I meant there were a lot more points to discuss and directions to steer the conversation throughout the day and it just seems that people latch on to the low lying fruit. Granted, yesterday I was pretty busy and didn’t have time to contribute either so perhaps that was behind it for others as well but it seems like for as much time as we spend going round and round about the same issues without getting anywhere we had a great opportunity to evolve the conversation a bit and there were maybe 20-30 posts per article until we had the big debate about whether the flag was too big for people’s liking or not.

Love the new helmet. I do not like the new Buccaneer font. All I can see is sideways “T”s in the C and sideways “Y”s in the E. Otherwise, great change imo.

At first I was taken aback by the size of the logo but the more I look at the picture in this article the more I’m liking it. I’m glad they didn’t completely change the logo. It was only tweaked.

The base color looked much brighter with much more pronounced metalflake on TV than the photo.

this is beyond ugly, obtuse,borderline vulgar…..I was hoping for simplicity. a cleaner look that moves away from shiny….once again the lightning do it with class and style while the bucs look like a 12 year old boy owns the team

I think it looks great. When I first saw it I wasn’t sure. But when you see the new next to the last one it is a big difference. I didn’t realize how dated it was. This obviously means still no throwback game since they can’t change the color and Bucco Bruce would look fairly stupid on that helmet. So hoping we get an alternate color uniform, how about all pewter with red/orange trim. Can’t wait till March 5th

Agree at first glance the flag looks huge, like it covers the entire side of the helmet. Hope the players inside it play huge.

Colossal FAIL! Sure hope the new uniforms don’t make it worse…. IMO, the Bucs went from 1 of the best helmets in the league to 1 of the WORST!… Wisdom says you shouldn’t expect someone to get it right every time… That sure is true in this case.

The flag decal looks a little exaggerated on the helmet. In some of the pictures I’ve seen, part of the decal covers some of the ear hole. That would suggest it’s too big. Oh well, I guess the market researchers and design department know best.

I was hoping for Bone White helmets with a blood red (crimson) flag….drop pewter gray….Uniforms all white away with silver and crimson highlights and all crimson home with silver and bone white highlights……..size of logo is fine.
