“Mort” Talks To Joe
February 20th, 2014Joe’s not f’ing around at the combine. Joe landed one of the biggest of big NFL media insider fish right away this morning when ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, just as he was about to go on set to air a report or some such thing, gave Joe a few minutes of his time to talk Bucs.
One nugget “Mort” dropped on Joe is that Bucs quarterback Mike Glennon has some other NFL owners with their briefs in a bunch.
Also, Mort was adamant that Lovie Smith will benefit from the discipline table set by Greg Schiano.
You can catch the entire audio below with an assist from Joe’s good friends at WDAE-AM 620.
Mort talks about time he spent at Lovie’s practices, understanding fans’ lukewarm feelings about Mike Glennon, and league views of new Bucs general manager Jason Licht, and more.

Joe is at the combine, so prepare for the johny boy posts to come rolling in
February 20th, 2014 at 11:26 am
Joe, Please rush the podium and just start yelling out JBF commentors names.
Not gonna happen. –Joe

Why would Johnny Boy even attend the combine?
Isn’t the combine for ham & eggers who want to improve their stock?
He’s there to go through the interviews and off-field stuff. –Joe

I would guess that more than half of the NFL teams fans are lukewarm about their QB’s heading into the 2014 season. Same here with Glennon and the Bucs. I’ll remain optimistic that a new overhaul of the coaching staff will bring a winning season.

joe you must be very busy to not have posted about brett favre comparing johnny manziel to a young him (based on 3 quarters of one game he watched johnny play), and declared manziel to be further along than he was coming out of college

I’ll be interested in hearing or reading Joe’s take on 5 players: Watkins, Ebron, Matthews, Barr and Mack…I think one of those 5 ends up our first choice in the draft this year.

“I do not believe that Greg Schiano should have been fired.”
Mort is right. Schiano did the dirty work for two years, Lovie gets to reap the benefits.
February 20th, 2014 at 11:54 am
What does having their briefs in a bunch mean?
February 20th, 2014 at 12:02 pm
I think Greg Schiano would’ve continued to have a good defense, not great and would’ve if he hadn’t already lost the vet players, they already stated that he didn’t “hear them and their suggestions”
February 20th, 2014 at 12:09 pm
Buc Wilder… agreed. Can we get some substance Joe?
February 20th, 2014 at 12:09 pm
Didn’t know schiano had A chick on the side (Chris mortenson).
February 20th, 2014 at 12:31 pm
Should have asked Mort if Deep Throat (Freeman source) is still with the Bucs?
February 20th, 2014 at 12:33 pm
Lovie just said that taking a qb woth 7th pick is to be considered.. Oh boy Joe will do some mileage with that!
February 20th, 2014 at 12:35 pm
It is a polite way of saying “panties in a wad.”
February 20th, 2014 at 12:36 pm
If the nuggets Mort dropped aren’t enough substance for you, then Joe can’t help you.
February 20th, 2014 at 12:41 pm
So the general consensus is that Glennon is a 50/50 guy – he surprised some and didn’t quite flash enough for others.
Sounds like justification for an upgrade if you are trying to make a playoff push.
February 20th, 2014 at 12:42 pm
He’s there Joe???
How Giddy are you?
I’m sure you’ll do whatever takes to get that Interview… Lol
February 20th, 2014 at 12:45 pm
“Also, Mort was adamant that Lovie Smith will benefit from the discipline table set by Greg Schiano.”
That won’t fly around these parts Mort. There are many Buc fans that think Schiano was the root of all evil. Satan himself. So to them, there is no benefit in anything he did.
February 20th, 2014 at 12:48 pm
I propose a life time ban on ” Mort dropping nuggets” on this site!
February 20th, 2014 at 12:48 pm
“if you are trying to make a playoff push.”
Playoffs, playoffs……playoffs?
This team is not making a playoff push anytime soon.
February 20th, 2014 at 12:58 pm
There will be a mob scene around him as if Kate Upton was swinging on a pole.
February 20th, 2014 at 1:05 pm
Yeah – WTH does this mean? can be positive or negative…”…Mike Glennon has some other NFL owners with their briefs in a bunch…”
February 20th, 2014 at 1:41 pm
Perhaps by listening to the interview, you will have your question answered to this great puzzle.
February 20th, 2014 at 1:50 pm
Schiano?
Lovie Smith is going to benefit from him? Which part, the no QB in place or the last ranked offense in pro football? 8 game losing streak to start the season?
That’s hilarious.
Now Bellichick, he benefited! Not our team, not a bit.
February 20th, 2014 at 2:02 pm
Err.. at work and can’t. Hence the question. Never mind. Not that important.
February 20th, 2014 at 2:05 pm
Joe’s interview with Johnny.
Joe: How is your NFL combine experience been going so far?
Johnny: Dude, where’s your pants?
Joe: That’s how I do all my interviews.
Johnny: Well it’s making me totally uncomfortable. I’m out!
Joe: Don’t leave! I love you! Please come back to Tampa with me!!!
February 20th, 2014 at 5:53 pm
@BFstalkingjohnnyfootBALLS, I’m laughing so hard I’m crying!!!
February 20th, 2014 at 8:18 pm
That is some funny stuff right there JBFstalkingjohnnyfootBALLS.

More like juvenile and stupid. Only funny (possibly) if you have the mentality of an eleven year old.
February 22nd, 2014 at 2:41 am
If Mortensen thinks we should have not fired Schiano then something tells me that he is ok with mediocrity and going 8-8 or worse every year.
