Super Bowl Open Thread
February 2nd, 2014What could be more fun than commenting back and forth with fellow Bucs fans about all things Broncos-Seahawks, plus Bruno Mars and dumb commercials?
Joe can think of lots of things. But feel free to enjoy yourself in the comments section below.
Play nice, people.
February 2nd, 2014 at 7:15 pm
I want Seattle to win, I think Denver takes it.
February 2nd, 2014 at 7:18 pm
Marshawn Terrell Lynch
February 2nd, 2014 at 7:18 pm
38-35?
lol
February 2nd, 2014 at 7:24 pm
I want Denver to win, I think Seattle takes it.
February 2nd, 2014 at 7:30 pm
Lets go payton silence that big mouth sherm!
February 2nd, 2014 at 7:35 pm
There goes everybody’s grid
February 2nd, 2014 at 7:46 pm
GO BUCS!
February 2nd, 2014 at 8:23 pm
How about this offensive display. Better make sure we go all in for a qb so we can compete.
February 2nd, 2014 at 8:27 pm
Just glad that weather cannot take the blame for any of the play in this game.
February 2nd, 2014 at 8:28 pm
Hmmm. Denver comes back in the second half. Peyton will make the necessary adjustments.
February 2nd, 2014 at 8:38 pm
Seattle D making this a snooze.
February 2nd, 2014 at 8:38 pm
A passer who can run is about to win the superbowl.
We need one, defense wins championships STILL and a sitting duck will get killed by these bigger faster defenses.
The game is evolving
Maybe Glennon can learn to compensate by becoming above average in other areas of his game, who knows. I love the kid, I just think it’s a major disadvantage
February 2nd, 2014 at 8:40 pm
Lol! All you who think the NFL is a “passing league” bought the hype and now you look like the rest of the idiots. Defense wins championships. Always has, always will. Seattle is stomping the !#@% out of Denver and Peyton Manning.
Offense, my ass. Defense is where it’s at.
February 2nd, 2014 at 8:41 pm
I picked Seattle over Denverback in August. This might be first time getting it right in August.
February 2nd, 2014 at 8:42 pm
@prbucfan – what you just said kills me because it’s what will be said by everybody. They’ll say a mobile qb won this super bowl but, if it keeps going like this, it’ll be the defense that won it with little help coming from the qb’s mobility
February 2nd, 2014 at 8:43 pm
You missed the point lol
February 2nd, 2014 at 8:44 pm
Good thing Seattle had a mobile qb that got them that fumble on the kick return. Where can I get me one of those
February 2nd, 2014 at 8:44 pm
Game isn’t over yet-.
Even so, Wilson is playing extremely well…so even this #1 defense needs a great QB.
February 2nd, 2014 at 8:45 pm
Clearly you missed the point lol
February 2nd, 2014 at 8:46 pm
The mobile QB is a coincidence. The dominant defense is winning this game, just like the Bucs did against Oakland eleven years ago.
February 2nd, 2014 at 8:46 pm
“We need one, defense wins championships STILL and a sitting duck will get killed by these bigger faster defenses.
The game is evolving
Maybe Glennon can learn to compensate by becoming above average in other areas of his game, who knows. I love the kid, I just think it’s a major disadvantage.”
I subtracted the first sentence for you. Makes absolutely no difference to what I was saying, cause that wasn’t my point lol
February 2nd, 2014 at 8:47 pm
Defense wins championships, baby!
February 2nd, 2014 at 8:48 pm
This is Bucs-Raiders all over again.
Offense gets you there, but defense wins it.
February 2nd, 2014 at 8:48 pm
A passer who can run, not a runner who can pass is what we need to survive against elite defenses in the NFL.
February 2nd, 2014 at 8:50 pm
Even Manning “the supreme” proves that sitting ducks won’t survive these bigger faster defenses.
February 2nd, 2014 at 8:56 pm
@prbucfan – keep reaching brother. Pretty sure this defense has eaten up mobile qbs this year as well.
Manning looking a lot like gannon tonight. Not a Seattle fan but i’m glad to see what a strong defense can do for you as we get ready to go into a Lovie Smith led season
February 2nd, 2014 at 8:56 pm
Kaepernick can run and Seattle beat the 49ers two out of three times this season, including when it counted most. Defense trumps offense, even with a mobile QB.
February 2nd, 2014 at 8:57 pm
Thanks for agreeing with me 😉
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:00 pm
Kap’s a runner first by the way.
Logically speaking a pocket passer who can run has a better chance/more options to win than a pocket passer who goes down the minute a lineman gets beat.
The odds are in their favor.
That’s all I’m saying. That’s fact, not opinion. That’s al i’m going to say on it. Nothing else left to say lol
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:00 pm
How in the world was Denver the odds favorite to win this game? Overall the NFC was far better than the AFC this season. Seattle could not be beaten by any AFC team in this super bowl.
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:02 pm
I lied this is the last thing.
I don’t wan’t a QB with a running mentality aka a Manchild, just a QB who naturally has more options available to him but thinks pass first.
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:09 pm
Yeah, defense wins championships…. except when it doesn’t i.e. last year.
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:10 pm
Cause the Ravens didn’t have an amazing defense?
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:15 pm
Nope. They sure did not. San Fran was was arguably the best in the league too.
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:18 pm
lol So your saying because the number 1 defense didn’t win than no other team had a great defense?
…right
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:18 pm
SEAHAWKS!!!
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:25 pm
Looks like a blowout to me.
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:27 pm
Night Bucfam, out for the night
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:28 pm
And ….. Tampa let Bennett get away ……
He only led the Seahawks in sacks last year
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:31 pm
damn
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:32 pm
Percy Harvin = MVP ?
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:32 pm
Seattle was once an AFC Team, and Denver, with John Elway, always beat us.
We could never get past Denver, and John Elway.
Now, this is payback to the John Elway owned Bronco’s, LOL
Keep it us mighty Seahawks!
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:33 pm
Game over. Wow how boring.
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:34 pm
I hear ya Buc1987, it is boring as hell!
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:34 pm
Going to bed. Nice part about not caring about either team in the super bowl, no lost sleep before work on Monday
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:36 pm
LOL, the REAL Super Bowl was the 49ers vs the Seahawks! The Bronco’s are pretenders!
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:36 pm
Lovie says : I can win 10 games with a good defense and good special teams.
Defense wins championships!
To hell with Manziel.
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:36 pm
So Bennett was right
He Leaves Tampa because he can’t stand Schiano
Schiano gets fired
Bennett gets his Superbowl ring
Bennett Comes back to Tampa
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:37 pm
GREAT DEFENSE IS NOT BORING
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:37 pm
Maybe defense does still rule.
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:38 pm
If Denver comes back to win…it will definitely be a SB record right?
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:39 pm
Winning is not Boring
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:40 pm
Sure Buc Neckid just so long as it’s your own teams defense, but most of America is bored as hell right now.
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:42 pm
I’m loving every minute of this blowout. Glennon would have played better as Bronco QB. This thorough beatdown could’nt happen to a more deserving team than the pintos.
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:44 pm
@PRBucfan I never said any of that lol Perhaps you should read comments twice before replying to allow yourself comprehension time.
I’ll dumb it down a bit further for you either way. Ravens did not have an “amazing” defense. last season. By all perimeters they were about as mediocre as it gets. San Francisco had possibly the best defense in the league and did not win. Hence the “Defense wins championships…. except when it doesn’t”. Are you following now? I’m not sure I could dumb it down much further.
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:47 pm
I do not like the Seahawks either
But have to recognize that most of the people that are calling this game “boring” are doing it because they hate that it is the SEAHAWKS’ GREAT DEFENSE that is the one that is winning.
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:47 pm
Anyone else like the Doberman commercial ?
I laughed my azz off!
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:52 pm
Doberman commercial is the best tonight.
The Bud Light one with Ah-nold was better online as a four minute version
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:55 pm
I have a question regarding both teams. I have seen several helmet to helmet hits and the refs have not called on of them.
Were we being targeted because of Goldson?
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:57 pm
Noooo it’s a QB driven league this….it’s QB driven league that. HOGWASH!
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:58 pm
GREAT DEFENSES are intimidating and make you make mistakes that you normally would not make.
BALL PROTECTION, BALL PROTECTION, BALL PROTECTION…
February 2nd, 2014 at 9:59 pm
Bonzai…yes I believe so. It was going on all season long too with many other games that I watched of other teams. Goldson was definitely being targeted and probably still will be. That’s why I say he’s more of a liability than a help.
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:00 pm
Buc Neckid Says
“Winning is not Boring.”
Funny thing. The Bucs superbowl was voted the most boring sb in history. We, as Bucs fans, did not think so, but the rest of the world did.
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:01 pm
I think Denver should just sit Manning and play the 2nd string. This game is over anyways.
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:01 pm
I am just glad that nobody can say that Weather was why Manning could not be effective or was the reason for the Best Defense dominating this game.
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:02 pm
Bonzai…I think this one is blowing ours away right now.
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:03 pm
Just curious…how many of those 36 points did the Seattle defense score?
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:03 pm
If i remember correctly
nobody LIKED the Bucs that year’s game
just like nobody likes Seattle this year
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:03 pm
Wow. Seeing Percy dominate makes me want Watkins so bad!
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:03 pm
9 points for Seattle’s Defense > Manning’s Points
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:05 pm
Buc Neckin, EVERYONE in the media predicted a Seahawks win.
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:06 pm
BoJim Said:
February 2nd, 2014 at 8:28 pm
‘Hmmm. Denver comes back in the second half. Peyton will make the necessary adjustments.’
I might have been wrong.
Better draft for defense this year. 😉
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:07 pm
You don’t bet with your heart, but you can route with it
Predicting a win and LIKING Seattle are two different things
Hating Seattle makes this game Boring to those people.
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:08 pm
Dont want to hear that it’s a QB-driven league EVER AGAIN!
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:08 pm
Defense!
When was the last SB shutout?
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:09 pm
With the third Quarter almost over
Who is YOU game MVP?
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:10 pm
*YOUR
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:10 pm
How much money are they paying Manning again?
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:10 pm
The bungling Broncos are quite comical in their attempt to look like a legitimate NFL opponent.
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:10 pm
Harvin for MVP
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:11 pm
So much for the shut out.
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:12 pm
Here comes the greatest comeback in history. Just kidding.
Omaha Omaha Omaha
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:13 pm
DEFENSE is winning this game regardless of playing against the Best Quarterback in the League / League MVP
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:14 pm
Harvin because his Kickoff return for TD at the start of the second half was the Dagger in Denver’s Heart
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:16 pm
Remember that game, Bucs vs Colts. We were way ahead until the forth quarter? For some reason that just popped in my mind.
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:16 pm
Any Denver points now are meaningless
GAME IS OVER
Seattle is in Victory formation mode
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:18 pm
yah Bonzai but this game is over.
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:20 pm
zzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzz
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:21 pm
Let’s be a Friend of Michael
and stuff the MVP voting for Bennett
(he does not deserve it, but it would be great to shove it up Schiano’s and Rock Star’s when Bennett comes back to Tampa next year)
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:22 pm
Russell Wilson making a case for MVP
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:24 pm
Wow…even a little kid can score on Denver.
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:26 pm
zzzzz?????
How can 43 points by one team be boring?
They are shredding the Broncos on Offense.
Great Defense – Check
Great Offense – Check
But both are for the same team –
The Seahawks
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:27 pm
TOUCHDOWN! Denver. Now that’s what I’m talking about!!
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:33 pm
Sherman carted off
I hate injuries and hope the Seattle haters aren’t cheering right now
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:38 pm
@Buc Neckid – That is the problem. The game isn’t even competitive. Just one team bullying another around. As a fan of neither team. that is very boring.
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:39 pm
Okay, I’m happy. 24 is coming back!
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:40 pm
I always pull for the NFC team in the Super Bowl, starting with the Packers in the first two in the late 60’s. The Bucs are NFC, my loyalty will always be Bucs first, NFC second.
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:42 pm
Contrary to what all the talking heads say or write. Defense still wins Championships. Thank God we got Lovie Smith.
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:44 pm
I never understood that
these are the two Champions of their respective conferences in the NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE
and one just totally imposed their will on the other.
This is not like a Champion is playing “Sister Mary’s of the Blind”
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:48 pm
Seattle is loaded on their Defensive Line
I don’t think that they sign M.Bennett for more money than he can get in Free Agency
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:52 pm
So the NFC is that much better than the AFC?
Under that rationale,
The Bucs, as HORRIBLE as they were this past year,
who Hung with Seattle IN Seattle this year,
Could have beaten the Broncos in this Super Bowl, too?
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:54 pm
85 Bears, 2000 Ravens, 2002 Bucs, 2013 Seahawks. Those are the best teams ever and they all have one thing in common….DEFENSE
February 2nd, 2014 at 10:55 pm
Congrats to the Seahawks
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:03 pm
Dear Joe,
DEFENSE wins CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!
Draft defense. Love the Seahawks. Build this Bucs defense like Seattle’s!
Jason Licht, can you build that roster as deep as Seattle?
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:07 pm
Worst Super Bowl I’ve watched in my 42 years on earth, but I loved the dominant “D”
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:08 pm
Congrat to the Hawks. Goes to show what a good offensive line & a great front seven can do.
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:08 pm
Great Game!!!
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:09 pm
Draft LT Greg Robing with the 1st pick
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:10 pm
Manning has 20 million reasons to be back next year, but he really needs to go sell Pizza’s.
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:10 pm
Draft *LT Greg Robinson with the 1st pick
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:12 pm
The defense did their job. And the QB they say Is a game manager managed. What a novel idea.
And yet another player leaves to win a Super Bowl.
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:13 pm
Before any of you ever call Mark Dominik a “Rockstar” again, bear in mind he allowed Michael Bennett to walk to Seattle, and could have drafted many of the players on the Seahawks.
Russell Wilson, the Seattle QB, sat and waited till the 3rd round, he could have been a Tampa Bay Buc!
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:14 pm
Only a complete moron and football idiot would consider Russell Wilson a game manager. Please, everyone, for all that is right in this world, stop saying that.
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:14 pm
Russell Wilson helped Johnny Manziel draft stock tonight!
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:16 pm
So Seattle’s team is loaded with a combo of:
1. Solid draft picks
2. Expensive free agents
3. Good value free agents
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:16 pm
“Before any of you ever call Mark Dominik a “Rockstar” again, bear in mind he allowed Michael Bennett to walk to Seattle, and could have drafted many of the players on the Seahawks.
Russell Wilson, the Seattle QB, sat and waited till the 3rd round, he could have been a Tampa Bay Buc!”
——
The exact same thing could be said for 30 other GM’s in the NFL. Hindsight is always 20/20.
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:17 pm
@Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning
Mark Dominik name should never be mentioned again. How many Mid/Low round draft picks did Seattle have in this game? If anybodies deserves to be called a “Rock Star” its Schneider.
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:18 pm
They even said that during the game stupid or did you miss that??
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:19 pm
@LUVMYBUCS, you got that right!
How the Fuk anyone could ever call Dominik a “Rockstar” is beyond me ?
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:20 pm
GOOD OFFENSIVE LINE WITH POWER RUNNING GAME/PLAY ACTION+GREAT FRONT SEVEN..
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:21 pm
Favorite Super Bowl EVER. Even better than the Bucs win… Did I mention I live in Seattle? Aaaawww HELL YEAH!
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:25 pm
What rules will they come up with now to help the offense? What no press coverage..lol
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:26 pm
@Orca, I lived at 19243 11th ave NE Sea, Wa 98155 for 14 years! Go Hawks!
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:27 pm
I’m just waiting for Joe to spin this into a Mike Glennon slam somehow!
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:29 pm
Sapp better skip town.
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:30 pm
I think this proves that the nfc is stronger than the afc this year. The Saints and Niners did a better job agains the Seahawks in the playoffs than the Broncos did. I think the best three teams this year were Seattle and then the Saints and Niners neck and neck and then Denver would be the fourth best. Seattle was just the strongest.
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:30 pm
Build that defense Bucs!
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:31 pm
it would appear defense does still when championships. thats was directed at Sapp. Gives bucs fans some hope since we have some nice pieces on defense and have a coach who is all about defense.
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:38 pm
@Idaho
you mean something like no way Glennon could get the Bucs to the Super Bowl and win in his second year? He does not have the It factor and he is only a game manager.
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:43 pm
So much for Joe’s wet dream of mortgaging the future for his man-crush. Lovie will be going defense.
I wonder how BD’s wagers fared tonight?
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:43 pm
DE-FENSE DE-FENSE DE-FENSE…. Bucs can be there pretty quick with some key moves… Allen, Tillman, & Watkins, & Mccarron or Garapolo to battle with MG8 would be my perfect scenario…. and perfectly plausible, so DO IT BUCS & WE’LL BE IN THE SUPERBOWL SOON.
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:45 pm
Wait until later or tomorrow you will.
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:45 pm
They won with Lovie ball!
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:47 pm
You guys are right, draft Clowney.
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:50 pm
I would not be opposed to drafting Sammy Watkins at all. He has the skill to be a darn good number 1 receiver. I think we draft either him of a DE.
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:51 pm
*or a DE.
February 2nd, 2014 at 11:53 pm
@Idaho
The headline will be something like “The Death of the Pocket Passer”
Oh What is Ryan?
February 3rd, 2014 at 12:01 am

Give it up for Bruno Mars!!!
February 3rd, 2014 at 12:06 am
wow what a terrible game.
February 3rd, 2014 at 12:44 am
Worst Superbowl in a long time. Just plain boring.
February 3rd, 2014 at 12:47 am
I guess this shows with all the rule changes – defense can still dominate!
February 3rd, 2014 at 12:52 am
They just smashed the #ONE OFFENSIVE OF ALL TIME. So it is ….what it is.
February 3rd, 2014 at 1:13 am
That was one boring, uncontested Super Bowl.
Unless you are a Seahawks fan- Bruno Mars was the only entertainment
February 3rd, 2014 at 1:19 am
This game gave me hope that with the right personnel decisions and scheme – talent development and culture – we can turn around our fortunes pretty fast.
Realistically I’m saying 2 years and we should be relevant again.
February 3rd, 2014 at 1:23 am
@Architek
I’m saying like next year. It can be done.
February 3rd, 2014 at 3:32 am
best SB ever.

luvmybucs. More stats please..
February 3rd, 2014 at 4:37 am
Your a Bucs fan and this was your favorite SuperBowl? Or are you half Buc half Seattle?
I still think our defense was better and had a better showing in the SuperBowl.
Nothin will ever top that memory for me.
February 3rd, 2014 at 5:26 am
Pretty sure I was roundly mocked for saying that people were being led to believe it’s a qb driven league by the media and that time after time defense has proven itself to be more valuable. Here’s another example for you. Perhaps the best one yet as this was an all time great qb coming off the best season ever by a qb. He was destroyed by a great defense. Just like running qb kaepernik was beaten and elusive future hof qb brees was rendered useless. The common denominator in all of those games was the defense was awesome. They made the opposing qbs look average at best. For as cerebral as Manning is and all the weapons he has he looked overwhelmed and lost the whole game.
So tell me again jbf why we need to bypass fortifying our defense in an effort to go get your mobile qb that so many are salivating over. I noticed very little mention of that even though there was a prominent mobile qb in this game. tell me about how you can’t win anymore without an elusive qb and then explain to me how many points he was responsible for and how his elusiveness helped the team in this game. Running qbs are fun to watch and make a good highlight, which is why sportscenter would have you believe they are trending up, but in reality nothing has changed from when our defense was exposing new qb phenom Michael Vick for what he was.

A pocket passer who can run ALA Wilson should be the type of QB we try and go after next.

@prbucfan – couldn’t agree more, as long as it’s not in the first round

we have the defense and have neglected the qb position. a 3rd round qb picked 3rd at the position in a sucky qb draft is not the answer. using a high pick on the most important position is necessary.

@lurker: Wilson was drafted in the 3rd round the same year Luck and RG3 were. Why do we need to draft a QB with a high pick?

No matter how you break it down, the Seahawks won with an excellent quarterback. In 12 of 16 regular season games they scored 20+ points.
Last night they scored a bunch and only a few points were put up by the defense.
You can claim its a defensive win, and it was (in part), but truth be told, the offense did just as much as the defense.
What I learned last night?
The number one offense (team A) cannot beat the number one defense (team B) if Team As defense is playing like they are the worse in the league.
So as I said many times, it takes a combination of the two…you have to stop the team from scoring, but you also have to score.
Either way, it doesn’t change our division. We face who we face.
I do feel for Peyton though. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong last night. He made a few mistakes, but then the whole team did on both sides of the ball.
He did not look like the Peyton Manning I remember.

“Wilson was drafted in the 3rd round the same year Luck and RG3 were. Why do we need to draft a QB with a high pick?”
This is a good point.
However, I would answer with a question: Do you believe Mike Glennon could have scored 43 points in that game?
I sure as heck do not.

Bottom Line
We have to beat the teams in our division in order to get to the playoffs. We cannot do that with defense alone.

Well said Patrick in Va. All this talk of needing an elite QB is nonsense. I mean sure it helps, but Seattle was in the bottom third of the league in passing. Anyone who watched this game has to agree that it was, in fact, the defense that ruled the day. While there is some merit to your argument Bonzai that you do have to score, 16 of Seattle’s 43 came from Def/ Special teams scores and routinely benefited from good field position courtesy of…the D.
“Passing league” my a$$! Defense wins championships…enough said!
