Road Field Advantage
May 17th, 2009Joe was rereading the NFL.com chat former Bucs great Warren Sapp had last week and something really jumped at Joe: Sapp claims there is no such thing as a home game advantage. Rather, he preferred road games.
Andy, Valencia, Calif.: When you played, what was the worst temptation you faced while on the road: Missing curfew, gambling, beer, all-you-can-eat buffet or women?
Warren Sapp, NFL Network: Nothing. It was a business trip. I was there for a game, in and out. Easier on the road, there is actually less distractions. We’re like cattle on the road, we all herd together, do what we have to do and come back. At home there is distractions of tickets and family, etc.
All his life Joe has heard about what a home crowd can do for a team. This is eye-opening for Joe to read that some players would rather play on the road. Interesting.

Hey joe, Do you know why the Bucs never play a game in their throwback jerseys like other teams do?

Hi Nick:
The Bucs are scheduled to break out the orange jerseys this season for a game. Which one Joe isn’t sure but he’ll check on that for you.
Good question.

For those of us not so Fair Weather Fans, We would enjoy the throwback. It reminds of a time when every year was about hope even if it was futile for a lot of those years. Especially the Richard Williamson and Leeman Bennett years. But boy those Mckay and Wyche years were exciting. When asked about his teams execution in a losing effort John Mckay replied ” My teams Execution? I’m All For It!” then staunchly walked off.

I’m in favor of it as long as I can see….James Wilder catch a swing pass…..Mike Washington return punts….LeeRoy and Dewey…Parnell loft it to Morris Owens…
Hugh Green rule the field…..Ricky Bell run into hell ….
Doug Williams run 60 yards chasing down one of his INT’s on the gimp knee Culverhouse used as an excuse not to pay him…..I’m tired but there is much much more…..you can never go back….trust me if one could a football game is not what I’d be thinking about doing…..

Somewhere, possibly buried in his dad’s attic, Joe has a Kevin House jersey.
