Bucs Have GM Favorites; Hickey Looks East

GM candidate Jason Licht is a Bill Belicheat guy, just like Greg Schiano.
The Bucs don’t have a general manager. No problem. Lovie Smith is in charge.
The Bucs are still interviewing candidates. Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, their search presses on with two favorites: Marc Ross and Jason Licht, executives with the Giants and Cardinals, respectively. Both were college players. Ross is a Princeton man, and Licht has twice worked for Bill Belicheat, last serving as Patriots director of pro personnel from 2009 to 2011.
Bucs director of player personnel Dennis Hickey, former rockstar general manager Mark Dominik’s right hand man, is still at One Buc Palace leading scouting efforts. But reports out of South Florida have him interviewing for the Dolphins’ vacant GM gig.

All the Bucs need to do is come to the comments section of JBF and they most definitely will find some willing candidates for interviews.

Why not just promote or give out titles to hickey and stokes. I mean whoever is named GM doesn’t have any power anyway. Plus the roster is talented so those two must be doing something right. We did just draft the best QB in the nfl last year.

Realist and 1987 you forgot to mention the madden gm’s on this forum who are head and shoulders above the candidates listed. Tuexedo Shirt is a nice touch that should give you an edge for sure.
On a serious note, what happened to the Vitale from the falcons. I thought he was a front runner. Joe did he back out or did the bucs move on???

History hath shown that, w/ some exceptions like N.E., having a GM subordinate to a coach is a recipe for disaster.

Lol. Yeah the team is a disaster. Except our new coach loves the talent. Poor guy is stuck with revis, McCoy, Clayborn, Barron, Williams, James, Jackson, Martin, goldson, david etc.

Losing teams always talk about how talented they are. The lions invented it, and have one playoff win in 50 years.
Sorry but five straight years no playoffs and one winning season is a disaster.
And Clayborn, Williams, Barron and James on your list aren’t even good. Maybe average.
Lovie will do the job but this roster needs a lot of work and promoting someone from within would be foolish IMO.

Report is now that Lovie will have final say-so, not only on personnel, but on the draft as well. This job is nothing more than a Lovie assistant and figurehead. Lovie’s calling all the shots now. The Glazers gave him this power to detract him from going elsewhere, i.e., Detroit.

Eric, you are out of your mind. Williams and Baron are VERY good. I suspect Clayborn just needs a valid DE on the other side and he will flourish.
James hasn’t played enough to get too many props.

Fans always have a tendency to overrate the talent on the team they root for
McCoy, Revis, Martin, David, V Jax are the true ballers, everyone else is replaceable

Agree with most of that
Clayborn, and Bowers, both missed a year, and were rehabbing this year.
Gotta give them this year- will either rise, or fall.
Williams is very good.
Really thought James was the one that earned a higher rating. He was playing great.
Penn and Dotson are only decent lineman.
The rest are well placed on a losing team

bunch of whiners on here today, huh? Team certainly has some talent at starting positions. McCoy, Revis, David, Foster, Cassilas, Martin, V-Jax, Williams, James, plus guys on the rise like Barron, Dotson, Wright, Banks. I’m undecided on Dashon Goldson, his play needs to step up or replace him with someone cheaper and smarter. Depth is a big cause for concern to me.
For startng positions- obviously need another solid corner, blocking/catching TE, speed receiver, at least 1 DE (unless these coaches really think they can get IT from Bowers and Clayborn), and take your pic on the o-line.
But we have free agency with solid cap room, and the draft, and should be able shore up many of these holes. Color me optimistic

I’m optimistic too, Lovie is gonna right the ship and do it quick.
However, the roster needs a lot of work.
QB, OL, WR, DE to name a few weak spots. That’s quite a bit.
