Revis Passes On Schiano Endorsement

December 30th, 2013

Joe wasn’t impressed with Darrelle Revis’ effort on a couple of plays yesterday in New Orleans. Back during the Raheem regime, they would have been called “loafs.” (Sean Jones was Raheem’s serial loafer.)

If Revis can’t sprint in Week 17, then he should just skip the Pro Bowl so he can heal his body.

One could also say Revis served up another loaf after the game in the Bucs’ locker room.

ESPN Bucs beat writer Pat Yasinskas noted that he heard plenty of support for Greg Schiano among players who were chatting after the clobbering by the Saints, but Revis didn’t want to go there.

Most of the players I talked to after the game sang Schiano’s praises. But there was one notable exception. Although Revis praised Schiano for keeping the team together, the star cornerback didn’t exactly give a ringing endorsement when asked if his coach should keep his job.

“That’s not my call,” Revis said. “I don’t make those big-time decisions, those management decisions. I’ll leave that as that. That’s really not my call.”

As Joe has written previously, Revis is a very bright guy. He knows what he’s saying and not saying — and who’s listening.

Last week, Revis talked about being involved in making positive changes for 2014. Perhaps, in his mind, he just took his first step?

Guys earning $16 million a season that other players look up to usually carry quite a bit of pull in the executive offices.

Revis should look at himself as well. Is he worth $16m/yr? He got burned badly twice in the last month for TDs. QBs shy away from him for the most part, but I guarantee if they went after him more, it would be much more than 2 TDs.
Not sure how he made the Pro Bowl, other than his name. He had a few picks, a handful of breakups, etc. Lavonte WAY more deserving this year

  2. flmike Says:

I would love to see this team run the Zone Blocking scheme. With the RBs the Bucs currently have, the Zone scheme would be perfect, and who is better at coaching up the Zone Blocking scheme than Mike Shanahan, and he’ll be available in about an hour or so…

  3. Brandon Says:

One million a game for an injured player…plus trading away a 1st and 3rd…bad deal. Schiano wanted him so bad. Only an idiot would put way more value (Goldson) on his secondary than the D line. Panthers, Bengals, and Rams all have made major investments in their D lines and their Ds were all way better than our backwards defense.

  4. That Guy Says:

Revis’ answer is pretty much in line with Gregory’s, when asked if he was the right person to coach this team, “I don’t think I have to say anything.”

Trust and accountability, people! The New Gregory Order!

  5. Architek Says:

I woke up this morning – praying the bad dream was over. Is Schiano still our HC? Maybe I am dreaming now,,,

  6. pewterpirate99 Says:

I don’t know if he’s still worth the $16 million, but I’m going to listen more to what an experienced pro bowler like him has to say( or in this case not say ) as oppose to what an inexperienced, no talent ass clown like Schiano has to say. Or his so call “Buccaneer Men” in the locker room.
I do agree with you that Lavonte is WAY more deserving of the pro bowl than Darrelle is.

Revis has one more year to prove himself.

He looked lazy more than any other player.

But I think its because he hates losing.

Leonard Johnson is a sweet guy, but the biggest problem on our defense!!

He should not be on the field!! He is a great #6 CB but a horrible #3 CB!!

Leonard Johnson is the only common demoninator from last year.

We need another CB sooooo bad! Maybe 2!!

Brent Grimes please!! Banks is a good #3 CB but a very average #2 CB.

Wtf are we going to do?? We lost both our guards!! We are screwed!

  8. Bulldog Says:

Steering the masses , great job 3rd person..lol

  9. Chris Says:

Revis was average this year another move falling on the pop tart.

Schiano has taken shots at Dom when saying they can’t get to the qb with the 4 they have. Who built that dline? You guessed it.

  10. lightningbuc Says:

Boy, that Jets GM sure was stupid. Remember when everyone said Dominik had fleeced the Jets?

  11. SteveK Says:

    #KeepSchianoFireDominick

  12. Chris Says:

Jets gm fleeced the pop tart who had all leverage yet outbid himself. Meanwhile the jets defense got Richardson who’s ridiculously good. Yet we built our defense from the secondary without a pass rush. FAIL

  13. JonYuc Says:

Glad he didn’t “rubber stamp” approval for Greggy. He doesn’t deserve it. Having said that, Revis wasn’t worth the money & picks IMO. He’s a great individual talent but is he worth Franchise QB $? Jets won Round/Year 1 of that trade…

  14. Mr. Patrick Says:

The players that want to keep their jobs aren’t going to say anything bad about their control freak head coach. And Revis has 16 million reasons to keep his mouth shut

  15. Mike Says:

I just find it funny that everyone knows Schiano is a control freak, douchebag, so on and so on…. What else is funny to me….. Living in NC I also know much about the Panthers. You know what their fans where saying about Ron in most part and beginning of his third season? Just food for thought

  16. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Well…if they are going to do ANYTHING…they better do it soon as they are already 4 coaches/teams behind the power curve.

  17. Bucs fan from VA Says:

I say we trade Schiano to Penn State for Bill O’Brien. If they do fire Schiano I sure hope they DO NOT hire Shanahan. I live in DC area he lost the team this year. And he benched their #1 QB. They give up a bunch of draft picks for star QB and then bench him. We would be better of keeping Schiano.

  18. patrickbucs Says:

    @Mike

Ron was a long time Assistant defensive coach in the league that has built a great defense and an average offense. Even by your theory that Schaino should stay they have a franchise QB and a strong offensive line as well. The only thing that we have better imo is one WR and Revis. We have poor schemes that twice had Revis in man and the safety blew it. Why is that still the case? He should be lined up on Graham 1 on 1 like a real defensive coach did with Talib. We traded a 1st & a 3rd and tons of cash to have him mostly cover 3rd best option on the opposing team. If that isn’t enough to get him canned then look at the offense from early on last year until now it’s atrocious like his college play fakes.

  19. White Tiger Says:

Moron Joe can’t seem to see his own bias towards the worthless coach.

How do you feel now, Moron Joe?

In case the thinkers didn’t tell you – your buddy Schiano has been fired.
