Bucs At Rams, Open Thread

Good morning from the Ed Jones Dome (where Joe is at) in frosty St. Louis where the Bucs will face the surging Rams.
Joe just cannot get a feel for this game. On one hand, the Rams throw Kellen Clemens at quarterback. Can you say “Eric Zeier?” On the other hand, Zac Stacy is running the ball very well and the Bucs, of late, have been a bit soft on the run.
The Rams will be without the services of speedy Tavon Austin, as he is inactive, which means the Rams have virtually no passing game to speak of.
The thing that scares Joe is the physical front line of the Rams defensively, which the Bucs have proven gives them fits. If Bucs quarterback Mike Glennon can just get a little bit of time, there should be open receivers because the Rams stink in the secondary, a combination of players not playing well and injuries.

Joe loves him some cheerleaders. The problem is not the playcalling. Everybody has the same plays, just about. The problem with the offense is the five guys in front of Glennon. This is the worst offensive line in football. Our first pick should be an OT, then a DE.

First, when I was defending Freeman it was because he was getting the blame for everything that went wrong. Guess what? He’s gone and a lot of those things are still going wrong.
I “blast” Glennon because silly little girls are giving him props that he has yet to earn. In face, his play thus far has done nothing BUT earn “blasting”.
Until he shows he is good, we need fair competition at the position. THAT’s why I want another QB brought in.
I’ve said it clearly….we should not put all our eggs in one basket. Glennon did not earn his starting role at all. Freeman lost his and Glennon got it by default.
And, if you had ANY eyes to see with, you would see that Glennon is being outplayed by a scrub QB who has never been any good.

A talented speed receiver to go with Jackson and Williams….then we will see what we really have. There are a few glimpses of some positive potential. Would like to see us in a situation like the Packers where they always have a couple excellent ones, at least a good one, and a couple of young guys in development.

Freeman had no good years here? Right. He went 10-6 one year, remember? He also broke records in passing his second to last year here. Was he good enough?
Nope. And that is why he is gone. But he wasn’t the only one to blame. This teams negated most of his passes this year with penalties.
Tell me…what if we do not bring in another QB to compete in the off season and Glennon pulls a Sean King? What if he REALLY sucks in his second year?

The difference is that with a rookie you don’t really know what you have, even if he plays well. Because rookies tend to do okay their first year and then suck after that.
To me, it is ignorant if a team blindly trusts a rookie to become elite. It is intelligent to bring in legit competition so you get the best of both.

What some of you are neglecting to see is that on obvious passing downs, the Rams are bringing blitzes. More than the O Line can block. This is why Im not on the Glennon bandwagon. he has to see this and make the quick pass and stand tall against pressure. Its common sense and yet Glennon immediately cowers at pressure. Its a QB’s job to see what the defense is doing. I want Johnny Football or at the very least a stud QB prospect.

Some things he needs to see better and sooner, but with him worrying about getting blasted and no running game, he doesn’t have much of a chance to develop.

Freeman was a 5th year player. He deserved every bit of criticism he got because he sucked every single year he was here.

No he didn’t suck every year he was here and he didn’t play a full 5 seasons (80 games); Freeman played 9 games in 2009 and 3 games in 2013. During his time here, the Bucs never had a complete team; they didn’t invest in a FA on the offensive end until 2012. The defense from 09-12 was not stellar. There were games where the Bucs had the lead when Freeman walked off the field for the final time only to lose due to the defense not holding up their end and bad coaching decisions. Josh only played 3 games for the Bucs in 2013; since his departure, the Bucs have only managed to win 4 out of 11 games. Those losses aren’t on Freeman.

89…he can’t count on them….they have made more drops and bad plays than they have made good ones. It is a two way street. I think Jackson lost confidence in Freeman. Glennon has no confidence in those two guys. Glennon has confidence in no one but Jackson and Wright…who as a tight end isn’t nearly as difficult to take away from him.

Agreed Patrick…I think we need to bring in another QB to compete…draft if the right guy is there. And if we want to retool the entire organization, that is an option. I personally think one more year. But it would have to start from Dom on down, get the best GM you can, and help find the best HC available. Dom doesn’t have the stuff to trust to find the right guy and plug in a new coach.
