Peter King: Glazers “Really Like Schiano”
December 19th, 2013It’s part of the holiday season, just like candies and nuts and eggnog and Christmas lights and drunken parties and rotten TV specials and bowl games and bad sweaters. It’s the NFL coaching carousel, when we try to guess which coaches have been naughty and will get bounced.
In his weekly segment with the one and only Chris “Mad Dog” Russo on the show that bears his name, “Mad Dog Unleashed,” heard exclusively on SiriusXM Radio, fight-instigating, barista-training, pedestrian-bumping, olive oil-lapping, popcorn-munching, coffee-slurping, fried-chicken-eating, oatmeal-loving, circle-jerking, beer-chugging, cricket-watching, scone-loathing, college football-naïve, baseball box score-reading Peter King of SI.com and theMMQB.com fame discussed NFL coaches on the hot seat.
When Russo brought up the name of Bucs commander Greg Schiano, King openly scoffed at the suggestion Team Glazer would jettison Schiano after this season and, per King’s own research, Schiano will survive the guillotine, in part, because Team Glazer likes Schiano so much.
Chris “Mad Dog” Russo: There might be a lot [of NFL coaching vacancies] including down in Tampa. They have played better but they have not played well against the good teams.
Peter King: I don’t see it. I just don’t see it. And I will tell you why. Because, in my opinion, the owners of that team really like Schiano. And they have really shown great signs of life going forward, too – they were not beating the 49ers. They were 4-1 going into that game Sunday [in their last five games] and I am not even sure that they have to win out or anything but I mean, look. If they lose to the Rams and the Saints and they very, very well could – both of those teams are on the road – they could lose both of those.
Russo: Easily!
King: If they lose both of those games, I guess he could be in trouble. But, I don’t know. I’ve talked to people in that organization and I do not sense any sort of fire drill about to happen.
Joe knows fans don’t like to read this. Joe’s just being honest and upfront from what he has learned talking to people. It sure seems, the way the tea leaves are floating, that Team Glazer, while not happy with (another) sub-.500 record, are willing to give Schiano a mulligan because of the Rip Van Freeman saga and the MRSA mess. Also, there are signs of life. This looks to be the second solid draft class in a row that Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik has procured, and at worst, Schiano’s staff seems to be able to develop the young players Dominik brings in.
Joe also senses Team Glazer doesn’t want to turn the Bucs into the Raiders of the east coast with coaching changes every two years.
Of course, things are fluid at One Buc Palace. If the Bucs are blown out the next two games, then, of course, all bets are off.
Here is also something to ponder to give Joe’s readers a hint as to the mindset of Team Glazer: The legend at One Buc Palace is that in 2011, Team Glazer wanted to jettison Raheem Morris before the season ended but couldn’t because Morris was both head coach and defensive coordinator and the Bucs would not have been staffed to finish the season if Morris was bounced.
Now Joe doesn’t totally buy that. There were all sorts of guys with head coaching experience walking the street Team Glazer could have hired to come in as interim coaches (just to throw out a couple of names for the hell of it, Marty Chokenheimer and/or Wayne Fontes — Fontes lives in the area and is often seen watching Bucs practices as a guest of Team Glazer and the Bucs), and independently evaluated players for Team Glazer and Dominik while finishing out that season.
Look at Schiano’s staff. There’s a special teams coach with loads of NFL head coaching experience, plus seasoned coordinators who could take over as interim coaches. The same reasoning for not unloading Morris (allegedly) before the end of the 2011 season does not apply here if Team Glazer was so inclined. Plenty of guys could step in.
Yet, Schiano is still on the sidelines.
December 19th, 2013 at 8:08 am
Big difference when the coach is out drinking with the players versus the coach taking his job seriously and earnestly trying to turn things around.
December 19th, 2013 at 8:08 am
Great
December 19th, 2013 at 8:15 am
Wanna doom your team to fail for a decade or more, keep switching head coaches every two years or so, you’ll have no continuity, your defense will suffer from scheme changes and your QB will be destroyed in the process, and you’ll see a lack of commitment from any coach you might consider because they know they will be gone in 24 months, follow the blue print that the successful teams have drawn up. Pick a coach you trust, allow him to build a roster in his image, let that roster grow together and become a team, that process takes longer than a season or two, that takes time, especially if your drafts haven’t been that successful under the previous head coaches.
December 19th, 2013 at 8:16 am
If the Glazers like offense something needs to be fixed. McNulty, under Schiano”s thumb running the Rutgers offense didn’t exactly cut it in the Big East.
December 19th, 2013 at 8:27 am
Joe, My sources are saying that the Glazer stink-eye is actually pointed at the “rockstar” . Allegedly, after the “Freeman Fiasco” really opened there eyes, plus looking back on the first 3 drafts and really only 2 keepers at this point, makes a certain gm on thin ice.
December 19th, 2013 at 8:27 am
Hey Biff,
Rutgers UDFA, Tim Wright looks pretty good.
Our O-line is expensive and underperforming. We’d be better served to cut bait, draft Mathews/ Clowney, Barr/ Lewan AND sign a FA DE.
December 19th, 2013 at 8:27 am
Marty, &, um, WAYNE FONTES?!? You called these interim options back in the Morris days? Why not Chuck Knox, is he still alive?
& if the Glazers were going to axe Schiano mid-season, it would’ve happened before that last big Monday nite game, when the previous national exposure was a heap of embarrassment (with the fan rancor & all). But the Glazers have never fired a coach mid-season, as you pointed out. They just strike me as too “We don’t like an obvious dumpster fire” in manner, & killing the head guy in the middle of a campaign is the definition of that.
This is all moot, because just like the Glennon trial, this all comes down to the next two games (as someone pointed out, Glennon has almost the exact QB rating currently as Andy Dalton. & I don’t want Andy Dalton as my QB either). Coaches generally get 3 years unless there’s an ownership/management sea change (like the one that usurped Mularky in Jacksonville). Schiano has a chance to stay, but he has to win at least one of the last two, & then he has to fire both coordinators, IMO. Schiano has proven to just be an ok tactical pro coach, & he needs massive help on both sides of the ball—not the green Sullivan & the disgraced Sheridan.
But yeah, going hari-kari on the Freeman decision, the toughest schedule in the league, the massive injuries are all things to be considered in Glazerland.
December 19th, 2013 at 8:30 am
@steveK
wright will need to gain weight and strength to help block during the offseason. He needs to be able to help chip block DEnds. Our tackle’s sure could use the help. Can Wright run routes, yes. But he needs to block going forward
December 19th, 2013 at 8:38 am
Realist,
Wright should be our slot wr with Williams and Jackson is our other two receivers and we can draft us a real tight end or two.
December 19th, 2013 at 8:42 am
Stevek,
to make the offense dynamic. We need a speed/deep threat, VJ can play slot as he gets older, get a really good blocking TE, then Wright with an ablity to block just average and catch well, add Williams in the mix. Not looking to bad. besides the oline that is
December 19th, 2013 at 8:43 am
The outlook is not very bright for the remaining games on the schedule. The Glazers do not want to throw a struggling team into more upheaval with a new administration that will require a considerable amount of time on their behalf to conduct a search for a new coach – a new coach that will not come with any guarantee of winning. Yet they have a fan base that wants change and may threaten to boycott the gate. I have a proposition that is intended to split the baby in half.
I suggest they remove Schiano from the position of HC and switch positions with Butch Davis .His salary is guaranteed, his position is not. Put a 2 year contract in front of Davis that covers his current salary plus the amount he is receiving from UNC with the incentive to become a new 5 year contract at the end of term if he wins. Davis has previous NFL HC experience and if he employs that UNC defense that used Robert Quinn and Marvin Austin so well, we may return to NFL defensive prominence.
Put Schiano in the consulting job that gets him away from the locker room. Shiano has an eye for talent and can be useful in the draft and defensive player development. One of two things will happen. Schiano will accept his fate and join the team or he will remain proud and arrogant and resign. Either way it achieves the Glazer’s goals. Promote Dave Wannstadt into the DC position and hire an up-and-coming OC from the NFL ranks. Sullivan and Sheridan are released, but keep the current coaching staff in place based on past performance and merit to provide continuity going forward.
This will remove the perceived problem, assuage and appease the fan base, incur very little additional expense, minimize any disruption of player development, ie, Glennon and buy valuable time to decide strategic direction over the next two years.
December 19th, 2013 at 8:48 am
I hope the Glazers like empty seats !!! I think we need someone like lovie smith that has won in the NFL! Why change the oc.when schiano won’t let them do anything that wasn’t his idea?
December 19th, 2013 at 8:57 am
Please get off the Lovie Smith train wreck, there’s a reason no one hired him as a HC when he was fired by Chicago.
December 19th, 2013 at 9:02 am
So, I’ve been considering the quote that has gotten the schiano supporters, including myself, spun up to the point where we were ready to bail on him. This is sort of a stab in the dark but if he’s going to be here for at least another year, and a perverse part of me still wants him to, I need something to hold on to that will explain away what sounded like a terrible coaching philosophy. Perhaps he did not want to get away from what was practiced because he doesn’t yet trust Glennon’s ability to read and diagnose a defense and switch to something more suitable in the no huddle. It worked when used as a novelty in this game but the go to plays that Glennon has in his back pocket probably aren’t very diverse so schiano did it when it was necessary but understood that it wouldn’t work as the standard for the game. Again, I know it’s paper thin but I’m grasping at straws here
December 19th, 2013 at 9:04 am
I said someone like lovie.who has won in the NFL it doesn’t have to be him.
December 19th, 2013 at 9:06 am
I understand the Glazers don’t want to be the Raiders of the east and hire a new coach every couple years. The best way to do that is not hire dipshits for head coaches. And to not go the other end of the spectrum with every hire.
Dungy was too nice, lets hire a hard ass like Gruden. Few years later, Gruden is a dick, so lets hire a nice guy in Raheem. Two years later, Raheem’s too soft and plays with the players too much, so lets hire a hard ass in Schiano.
How about we hire some one that is smart and is a happy medium, instead of swapping form one extreme to the other?
PS. My comment is in no way suggesting I didnt like Dungy or Gruden. I really liked them both. It’s just an example of how they go from one extreme to the other.
December 19th, 2013 at 9:07 am
Schiano will get one more year, but Sullivan is gone, no question about it. And with a new Offensive Coordinator who knows what can happen next year.
December 19th, 2013 at 9:08 am
Even of these last 2 games are blowouts, which I doubt they will, Schiano is in no way getting fired. The Glazers do not want to be paying Schiano plus another coach for 3 more years. And if Schiano has a .500 season next year he will be back for a 4th season. Get used to him!
December 19th, 2013 at 9:09 am
No do overs for Schiano and his “offensive” staff. 4-12 is our reality, or soon to be reality. When the only thing you look forward to is how high a draft pick you will get due to how bad you stunk it is just miserable. Good or even above average game day coaching would have doubled our win total. Do not accept mediocrity. 4-12 is horrific and the Buccaneer faithful deserve better. Schiano knew Freeman was not the answer and no capable experienced backup was aquired in the offseason. That is the GM and the head coaches responsibility. I’m glad our defense shows improvement but the high draft picks and free agency should have improved our defense. Good coaching and management overcomes expected adversity and our 0-8 death spiral to start the season cannot be forgotten. Yippee, we beat a few terrible teams and the team continues to try and earn their pay checks by not quitting. We are still cellar dwellers jockeying for a top draft pick. That sucks and Schiano needs to answer for this dismal season along with the GM. 7-9 to 4-12 does not merit a pass in my book. If we finish 6-10 I would agree going 6-2 and finishing strong could merit another year but do you think we go on the road with our terrible offense and beat the Rams and Saints? Yeah, me either. Go Bucs!
December 19th, 2013 at 9:09 am
Ok developing talent is not the sole job of the hc can anybody name what’s food he’s done for this team ? Where’s the progress from year 1 to year 2 of this regime? I don’t wanna switch coaches every 2 years but u have to cut your losses when u See them I’d rather admit I’m wrong an fix the mistake then continue to stay the course of a sinking ship. Because if your that naive and stubborn you’ll end up at a press conference saying you don’t wanna do what works for u when everything I practice doesn’t work for u because that’s not what u practice. Either practice that more or adapt your philosophy to fit you talent don’t screw over what you have to try and paint your picture to what you believe will work especially if it’s not working! I can see if we where even near the playoff hunt I’d b more inclined to listen. But here we are draft watching and honestly we’ve been doing that since September. I just want production. All you Schianoites can miss me with the hidden agendas if not please enlighten me as to what he’s doing well that warrants we need to sit threw another year of this?
December 19th, 2013 at 9:12 am
Schottenheimer is beast joe.
#weaksauce
December 19th, 2013 at 9:12 am
@flmike after going 10-6. Just saying…
December 19th, 2013 at 9:12 am
Joe,
Pretty sure no knew that Gruden was gonna get axed after he went 9-7.. The only reason Raheem didn’t get fired mid season was that there was nothing to play for and it would just better there draft position.. If you don’t think Owners and GM’s don’t look at that while deciding to keep or fire a Coach you are crazy. I honestly don’t care who you know or who any other “INSIDER” knows unless its from a GLAZER (not trying to sound mean but everyones “SOURCES” are wrong at some point).. The only people that are gonna know are the Glazer’s (Because Dom could be fired too) and people should really stop speculating.. It’s not NEWS.. It’s rumors and we will find out in a few weeks.
With that being said… FIRE THEM CANNONS! FIRE THE COACHING STAFF! Trade for MALLET! And most important GO BUCS!
Happy Holidays everyone!
December 19th, 2013 at 9:13 am
And please stop blaming sully without blaming schiano they go hand and hand because we had a 9th rank offense last year so I guess that was schiano calling plays last year and sully this year right? Knock it off they both have a non working detrimental relationship. I don’t care who’s fault it is both of them need to fall on a sword point blank we went from 9th to 32nd no excuses it’s mutal sully for not getting it done and Schiano and sully walk the plank
December 19th, 2013 at 9:17 am
Yeaaaaa start the Ryan Mallet train I’d throw a 2nd and 5th round at em
December 19th, 2013 at 9:19 am
I agree 100% with BucNasty!
December 19th, 2013 at 9:20 am
With the first post
December 19th, 2013 at 9:31 am
Are we really calling for ryan mallet? How’d getting a tom brady backup work out for kansas city?
December 19th, 2013 at 9:35 am
Doesn’t matter if they like him and they think no one will come to see a team that loses more than it wins, that will be the reason in my opinion.
December 19th, 2013 at 9:40 am
Thanks bro it’s comical that every1 like s to beat the drum for him but when put on the spot no one comes to his rescue. No one has definitive reasons of y he should stay and what good he’s done they just like him on a personal basis or maybe it’s just the bowl cut idk beats me 0_0
December 19th, 2013 at 9:56 am
long gone is the tone of excellence…nope we will and have become browns/Bills south….its best you people get a hobby and start taking your sundays back…because this pig is going no where….
December 19th, 2013 at 10:03 am
I like Schiano as a human being, just not as our head coach. I love the dumb and dumber haircut though. Go Bucs!
December 19th, 2013 at 10:26 am
Lol da first few post are all for Schiano then you ask em y and they disappear lmao I think ima start asking that question on every post just to keep that garbage off my screen about ppl saying he needs to stay with no supporting reasons y lmao. Clowns that just like to be able to say they’ve said something no matter how asinine and irresponsible the statements.
December 19th, 2013 at 10:28 am
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Can’t talk sense to the senseless.
December 19th, 2013 at 10:36 am
Keeping my expectations lower than the Buc 3rd down conversion rate. Glad the Amish Boys are fond of Greggy…he probably reminds them of a bully from their private schooling days that is now nice to them.
December 19th, 2013 at 10:42 am
I keep seeing where people that don’t like Glennon say you can’t win the division with the 4th best QB in that division. So how do the Glazers expect to win the division with the 4th best Head Coach?
December 19th, 2013 at 10:46 am
Sad days are coming and all you giddy fans that think next year are in for the biggest let down you can imagine and the glazers are morons they are ones that fired john g and tony dungy it would be well advised to prepare yourself for next years debacle and I for one will separate my self from it
December 19th, 2013 at 10:49 am
Fair point.
December 19th, 2013 at 10:50 am
Many here say the game is all about offense in this era of high offense passing and scoring. The game and rules are set to favor the offense. The Bucs have never had an explosive offense in their history. Defence wins games, no that would be offense wins games today. Why the Bucs have never hired a capable offensive minded head coach is troubling. Someone in the Don Coryell mode, who was the father of the modern passing game and yet is not in the hall of fame. The bucs first win at home was over Coryell’s last Cardinal team. He was an offensive genius. He moved on to lead the juggernaut Chargers with Dan Fouts. Great coach, now departed. Where is the Bucs offensive genius?
December 19th, 2013 at 10:59 am
Most college coaches cant win at this level and he will be run out of this league but the bad part that it wont come until next year the bucs have too many holes to fill and to fix this with the draft and a backup QB is just crazy
December 19th, 2013 at 11:00 am
I’d vote to give Coach Schiano another year. He’s made a lot of mistakes in his 2-year stint, BUT … I think he’s come a long ways in terms of transitioning from a college coaching-mindset to what it takes to coach at the professional level, and just as importantly, still has the team playing hard for him. Today’s team lacks top-tier talent in many positions (QB, RB, WR, TE, DE especially) but that’ll hopefully improve once certain guys return from IR and with a good draft/some FA signings. Bucs do need, however, to dump both Sullivan and Sheridan if they expect to be competitive in the NFC South division. Schiano’s not an offensive or defensive guru from what I’ve seen, but I think that he has what it takes to be a good head coach, given a solid supporting staff. Right now that’s not in-place.
December 19th, 2013 at 11:08 am
I have Schiano’s back and he will be back because:
– He is a new NFL coach (HC) coming from the College ranks (The Big East)
– He came in and had to turn around an organization during his 1st stint as an NFL coach. This does not happen overnight. There may be some instances, but that would be like saying that all QB’s have to be Peyton Manning or Tom Brady. There is a rare breed – and it DOES JUST NOT HAPPEN overnight
-He has brought the family atmosphere back to the team and organization that we have not had since the Dungy days.
– Bringing this atmosphere back to the community will take some time because of all the negative hatred from the Tampa Bay area fan base. But it will again happen once the team starts winning (which WILL be next season).
He never lost the locker room and they continued to rally behind him and NEVER gave up.
– The fans embarrassing chants calling Fire Schiano and all of the other expletives only rallied the team even more behind their H.C. This is says something.
– Players who are no longer on the team have opinions. However , for such a drill sergeant, we have now 7 players on our roster who are former Scarlett Knights. Who would want to play for a coach no on likes? Well – we have 7 players to ask apparently.
– If a #1 draft pick can have a sophmore slump, why can’t a new NFL coach?
– He had the cojones to pull Freeman. Freeman was a captain, an NFL QB, a “professional”. He could not even show up for the team photo, and could not even make it on time to his own Charity event. Maybe it could have been handled differently, but look at Free now – he can not even win over Ponder or Cassell.
– Our last 2 drafts have been more than solid since Schiano has taken over. This is a team effort between Schiano, Quarles and Dom. However, it was the same before Schiano was hired, and the drafts have been sub par at best. The man knows talent.
– The Glazers are behind Schiano. It is funny seeing fans chant his firing – like they expected to the Glazers to respond and do something irrational and do as the fans speak..lol.
– Sully and Sheridan were not Schianos guys to begin with. The hiring of Coach was late and he had to scurry to find his staff. If you recall – the Cards rejected our asking to speak with McNulty (Coachs guy at Rutgers) about our OC position last year. Butch Davis is Coach’s guy for defense, and I believe we can buy out his contract next year. I expect both Sullivan and Sheridan to no longer be with our organization next year.
– Coach deserves to be here next year to have his 3rd solid draft, a full off season with Glennon taking the snaps, and his guys calling the defensive and offensive plays. I expect nothing less than a playoff run next year, and for years to come.
If fans stopped jumping the fire Schiano band wagon, actually assessed the situation, then maybe they would understand, and actually stand behind their team and Head Coach.

Your ‘source’s’??? Ha! Ha! Ha! LOL!!!
What..your lil sister???? C’mon man….
December 19th, 2013 at 11:16 am
So how do the Glazers expect to win the division with the 4th best General Manager?
Fair point, 4th, 3rd, 4th, 4th, and guaranteed 4th or 3rd in the division again. Numbers don’t lie. Thanks Pop-star for the misery!
December 19th, 2013 at 11:17 am

“Joe also senses Team Glazer doesn’t want to turn the Bucs into the Raiders of the east coast with coaching changes every two years”.
Hate to break to Bucs fans. WE ARE THE RAIDERS! If you hire the right coaches you don’t need to rebuild every 2 yrs. How many years are the Bucs into their rebuild(s)?
Have X- Raider HC’s been on anybodies radar when coaching vacancies come up. Raheem was a bad hire. Then the Glazers/Popstar held off hiring a head coach and were stuck with Schiano. Nobody, I mean nobody was going to hire this clown except the Glazers. I am not surprised to hear the Glazers are going to keep Schiano- THEY HIRED THE CLOWN IN THE FIRST PLACE!
The Glazers are the problem. They hires are awful. If fans could only release the Glazers.
December 19th, 2013 at 12:03 pm
I’m wondering if we have the 4th worst owners in the NFC South.
I will never get past our middling GM. If they continue to support him, then that’s on THEM.
December 19th, 2013 at 12:10 pm
@ Oil Derrick Brooks
LMAO!
December 19th, 2013 at 12:14 pm
Schiano isn’t going anywhere.
Plenty of excuses to keep him, including some legit ones.
Sure would be nice for the lasting contenders thing to kick in we were all promised.
December 19th, 2013 at 12:31 pm
@ the bucs realist and eric……many reasons that u can imply yet not explain or write correct? Lmao all u guys do is be opinionated with no facts just state some facts bro that’s all I ask lol how come u can’t do it???
December 19th, 2013 at 12:47 pm
I prefer my team to not start over after only 2 years. That’s all I’m saying on this matter. We don’t call the shots. So nothing we type in here is going to make one iota of difference.
I started out the season with 100% support of Schiano. It’s now slipped to around 55%. Only because of what I said in my first sentence.
If the Bucs have to hire another coach. How long do we give the next guy? The same 2 years? or are some of you going to be bitching about the next guy 2 years into his contract like you’ve done with Schiano?
Seriously if they hire a new coach. I don’t want to read the bitching and moaning if the next guy does not get it done in 2 years. Somehow I KNOW that I won’t get my wish and the bitching and moaning will happen just as it has this season about Schiano.
Be careful what you wish for Buc fans, it could get worse with the next coach.
December 19th, 2013 at 1:00 pm
“So how do the Glazers expect to win the division with the 4th best Head Coach?”
The real question should be, how do the Glazers expect to win with the 4th best coach on this team masquerading as head coach?
He did last 11 long, miserable, mind numbing, and unsuccessful seasons at Rutgers. He did manipulate the schedule with cream puffs to achieve 1 game over .500. He did become the highest paid public employee in New Jersey history.
He is practiced at the art of deception. You can tell by his blood stained hands.
December 19th, 2013 at 1:01 pm
It’s not the time it’s the results how come u thick headed ppl don’t see that if the new coach came I’m and put up a 7-9 record which is not a wining record also equivalent with schianos he’d be Givin leeway because it shows progress.schaino didn’t get the fire schiano signs after a 7-9 season which isn’t all that great I add but it was his 0-8 after a mediocre year that brought that on. Point blank if u show progress u buy yourself more time hey isn’t that how Freeman brought more time with a 10 win season. He proved he wasn’t the long term answer and we got rid of him but he brought himself more time. If schiano was buying time we wouldn’t b talkin about this but here we are in year 2 with 3 less wins then the previous year while adding more talent to a team who arguably didn’t lose to much talent. Progress fellas progress I didn’t think that was to much to ask of my head coach. Y stay on a sinking ship o I get it because u think the captain can plug the hole b4 it hits the bottom right? Well guess what I’ll watch him try but when the boat is more then 3/4 of the way sunk it’s time to either jump on the raft or go down with the captain an I clearly see where your headed. Have fun sleeping with the fishes !!!
December 19th, 2013 at 1:03 pm
It can get worse lmao I highly doubt it what will miss the playoffs again or no let me guess we’ll b worse then the jaguars and browns lmao to late we already are it doesn’t get any worse bro take off the schiano blinders and look at the facts wrap ya self around this one bucs fans WE ARE WORSE THAN THE JAGS AND BROWNS!!!!! Now how do u get worse then that????
December 19th, 2013 at 1:08 pm
A simple move to solve all of the Buc’s woes, would be to hire Jay Gruden as the head coach. Let him chose his GM.
Gruden has a great pedigree with historical ties to the franchise. A prodigal son who has left home to pay his dues.
Then we would have a man who could lead this team into the next decade.
December 19th, 2013 at 1:11 pm
@87,
Well, it’s going on year 6 of the Dominick rebuild. And, in many ways, another rebuild already began when Fraudman was dumped. And, the o line doesn’t have much gas in it. How much longer can you depend on it?
Does anyone expect this team to win the division next season? Are we counting on two years of the Falcons being down? Will NO or Cha fall next year?
December 19th, 2013 at 1:20 pm
If we don’t get a quarterback it won’t matter who the coach is.
December 19th, 2013 at 1:45 pm
Last time they hired a Gruden they won a Super Bowl.
Jay Gruden is a football wizard without the fleas that Chucky brought.
They would also have Jon as an unpaid consultant.

Chucky was fired with two years left on his contract after back to back 9-7 seasons. No one should be safe.

“This looks to be the second solid draft class in a row that Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik has procured”
It got a lot more solid once Schiano showed up – which is a major reason to keep him right there.

Prediction- Schiano stays, cans Sullivan inserts new offensive coordinator finishes next year at 5-11 with excuse of aging o- line and new system. Then Schiano buys himself another year at the helm finishing 5-11. Mediocrity breeds mediocrity.

Ok that’s the answer folks since Dominick is drafting better since schianos been there he’s some type of big influence on him which mean regardless off if we only win 25 percent of our games he should b retained because he makes Dominick do his job better lmao. Then we should just can dom and give him his job No? O yea an try again not a good enough reason to sit on the sinking ship

Rahim Morris got too close to his players and lost complete control. I was on the fire Schiano bandwagon earlier in the season but it looks like they’re turning the corner so I’m inclined to hold my breath and give him another season. Firing a coach is extremely disruptive. I’m still on the fence about Schiano long term but I’ve seen enough lately to give him another shot. And remember they lost Doug Martin and some other key players to injury and they’re still having a decent 2nd half of the season.

This is a no brainer. Let’s get a coach who actually knows how to coach in the NFL. Lovie Smith! Schiano, just another rookie.

Schiano was never in any danger of being fired this year. All the talk about him losing his job was to fill up 100’s of articles that writers like Joe have to publish every day, week and month so that they don’t get fired. The Glazer’s are not going to fire a coach who has the players working their asses off each week. They quit on the Dream, not even close with Schiano. What team in the NFL is on their 4th running back, their 3rd place kicker and a rookie quarterback when Schiano makes the correct decision in letting Freeman go. Not to mention not having Carl Nicks all year, Williams for half the year, Revis at 3/o4’s healthy and assorted other season ending injuries. Next man up works only so far. Add in at least 2 or 3 games in the 1st half that they could have easily won and and the season wouldn’t look so bad. Glennon is the best rookie in football in November. Everybody needs to take a chill pill and stop being so impatient. The Bucs are moving in the right direction and will get back all the injured by the start of next season. Should be at least 9-7 and possibly 10-6 next year and Schiano will be on his way to being a very good coach in the NFL.
@MandoPlayer – First, Joe has no boss, so Joe’s not concerned about getting fired. Second, is players working their asses off really so impressive? That’s what they’re supposed to do. Work. That’s what’s done on 80 percent of NFL teams. And if you think Schiano wasn’t in danger of being fired, then you’re really not paying attention. –Joe

Why do Dominick get a pass? The ultimate responsibility falls on him! He should be the first to go.
