“Disturbing” Communication In The Secondary
December 4th, 2013The New Schiano Order secondary has been opportunistic and much better than last season, but they’ve given up the booty too easily — too many times.
Sunday in Carolina delivered one of those remote-tossing moments. The Panthers’ opening touchdown was a 16-yard toss to Brandon Lafell, who had nobody near him in the end zone.
Johnthan Banks said today that it was a byproduct of him and others still learning the defense.
“Bad communication. We’ll get it fixed. Hopefully, it won’t happen again. It’s pretty disturbing. We’re still having some mental issues in the back end,” Banks said. “But it’s Week 13 of the season, that should have been over in the preseason. But we’re still working. Me and Dashon, were both new to this defense. We’re still learning along the way. So it’ll get better in time.”
Joe’s not making excuses for the big-play woes of the New Schiano Order secondary. They’re inexcusable. But it is fair to wonder how seamless a secondary can play when it’s got three new starters.
Yes, two of those are All-Pros on Dashon Goldson and Darrelle Revis, but there’s no substitute for familiarity. And it can’t help that Goldson’s brain is filled with thoughts of changing his approach to defensive football.
Presumably, with the entire starting secondary returning next season — and all under 30 years old — the unit would be measurably improved. But Greg Schiano has to be granted that year first by Team Glazer.

ITS BEEN 13 WEEKS!!!! I don’t buy the “still learning” excuse. 3 new starters or not, this unit should be cohesive right now.

I don’t buy that either…if they are still learning, then the defense is too complicated….I just think they miscomunicated.

I always find it amusing when at the begining of the season we were all talking about how we shouldn’t be going into the season with the lack of experience we have at corner…and that it was most likely going to be a liabilty for the team along with the lack of pass rush.
Now here we are 12 games into the season…and surprise!!!….the secondary and pass rush have been liabilities.
Why is this shocking to anyone?

3-9 not so fine.

Between the injuries ans suspensions, there having to shuffle the lineup more. some DE that could rush the passer would help too.

This team is embarrassing all the way down the line one excuse after another sick of watching it I think this team is in for some bad losses after this week to finish the season on a even weaker note .

Still learning the defense……really?!? After 13 weeks….Cmon Man. How much more time do you need? This is your only job. You’ve been playing football all your life! Study it and make it happen. Just man up and say you blew it. Miscommunication was the same tired excuse JF5 would say when trowing the ball at the receivers feet or over his head. Sick of it.
I’m done venting now. Feeling better. Thanks.

That Detroit win certainly didn’t last long in the media. While the majority of the stories after the Lions win were about how impressive the Bucs played in Detroit and how Schiano likely saved his job. Now he sucks again. Knock off the rocking horse stuff guys. Bandwagons are free to be jumped on or off but man, this is getting out of hand. In reality, the Detroit win will not save Schiano’s job nor will the Panthers loss cost him his job. His body of work after all 16 games will be analyzed and decided at that time.

Frankly, I’m bored with the excuses. It’s been 5 years now. It’s just apathy now.
There’s a reason why you never see Bucs fans or Bucs gear in commercials on TV for anything NFL related. No one cares about the Bucs. The Bucs aren’t hated. They aren’t liked. They’re just wallpaper; filling a spot to keep the conferences balanced.

Bring back the 1976 -77 Bucs. They lost a bunch but were fun to watch & had a glimmer of improvement. This season has by far been the worst for this long time season ticket holder!

This has been happening all season.
