Overmatched.
Joe’s not sure how else to describe this debacle.
Yes, the Bucs shot themselves in the foot with a heinous, needless Mike Glennon fumble in the red zone, a few plays after Vincent Jackson got dragged down from behind en route to the end zone, but those plays really didn’t matter much today.
The Bucs were mauled badly in the trenches — on both sides of the ball — by the streaking Panthers, who won their eighth straight game with ease. There were also terrible breakdowns in the Bucs secondary by All-Pros Darrelle Revis and Dashon Goldson.
And Joe’s convinced the Bucs might have set an NFL record for ineffective blitzes.
Most noteworthy to Joe was Mike Glennon looking like a rookie again, tossing a bad pick on a throw that looked more like a shanked punt (yes, Joe realizes there should have been a defensive penalty against Vincent Jackson), missing open receivers, and that fumble that will be a highlight show laughing point all night long.
Joe had little hopes for the Bucs today. This is how the Panthers win. But Joe would have liked to see the Bucs execute better when they had their shots.
In case you were wondering, the Bucs officially were eliminated from playoff contention today.

Sometimes the other team is just better than you, and that was clearly the case today. We could play them 16 times and wouldn’t beat them once. This game isn’t on Schiano, Glennon, Revis, or anyone else. They are a better football team than us, and we match up terribly with them.

Bucs need the services of Jake Matthews. We have seen how good this offense can be when the O-line plays well. When they don’t play well, like today, the offense is dead. The Bucs did not score a TD today, and Glennon was running for his life.

Another mediocre under 200 yrd performance from the franchise…nice deep ball kid lol ok all jokes aside its not glennon’s fault. He’s still a good back up but im not sold put the pick in to goddell….

@Ed – i’m not gonna rake schiano over the coals about losing to these guys. They’re basing everyone. Would’ve taken them playing better but a lot of good teams have lost to these guys

Wow 3 games won season and everyone is ready to give Shiano another year, has he really shown us he can make us playoff contenders? This team needs a defensive overhaul starting with the D coordinator.

Just…wow. I think after that goofy fumble Glennon had his confidence tanked after that. the end of that game of painful to watch.

Glennon performed about the same as all QB’s have against Carolina this year. They have the best defense in the NFL. Not to mention most of his weapons are out with injuries. Jackson was double or triple covered all game, Rainey had nowhere to run, and he didn’t get very good protection.

Embarrassing, Out-coached, Bad Play calling, Half the defense quit, every negative thing you could say happened.

Let me be clear before I make this statement. This embarrassing lose was not Mike Glennon’s fault.
With that said, do any of you with an IQ over 75 (pretty low, really) still think Glennon is our QB of the future? I know some of you out there will hang on to the notion that Glennnon can still be The Guy, just like there are still those out there that say cutting Freeman is going to come back to haunt the Bucs.
To me, this game showed more than any other that the Bucs need a lot of new talent, probably including a new head coach. But with the high 1st round pick, WE HAVE TO DRAT A QB!

He had a bad game today. However, he’s played pretty damn well for the last 5 weeks or so, has he not? He’s set rookie records, has he not? You can’t judge how good a QB is or isn’t by one game. Did you see guys wide open all day? I sure didn’t. Do you think it’s easy to convert third and long situations on the road against the best defense in the NFL (due to our lack of running game, and our predictable running into a wall on nearly every first down)? Look at what other QB’s have done against Carolina – not much. Maybe he is the QB of the future, maybe he isn’t, but it’s downright ridiculous to judge him off of this game and this game alone.

This game wasn’t embarrassing. Everyone needs to just relax. We were a TD underdog for a reason. We got the breaks last week. Not much went our way today.
We were never going to win out with this patch and match roster.

I have not judged it by one game, but this was the type of game that gave Glennon an opportunity to show some flash of what he can do. I don’t care if he wins it, but the flash, such as the bomb to VJ, was very little.
He played well when he has had a good running game, nothing “wow”, but well. Like I said, I am not judging him on one game, Glennon is a darn good backup level QB, but I do not see him as a FRANCHISE QB.
I clearly remember watching Eli Manning his rookie year when the NY press was dogging him. I thought he was amazing most of the time. He would make some bone headed decisions, but “wow” you on the next series. I DO NOT see that in Glennon.

I did not expect to win this game. One because of our O-line and 2. Our defense usually gives up about 31 points a game. So even if we get a big lead the defense will give it up . We have a better chance against the Saints. But with Carolina If we can’t stop Cam, Smith and Ginn they need no run game to beat us even if our offense was great. They will beat us everytime.

Glennon has shown enough to be our starter going into next year. A full training camp as number one should do him a lot of good.
Gotta get the kid more weapons.

We need one, just one defensive lineman that can consistently pressure the QB. I have no idea what the hell they have Clayborn doing out there but it would be nice if McCoy had some help…Any help!

I did not expect the Bucs to win either. Chalk it up as a loss to a better team. A win today just was’nt in the cards. Still high on the teams future with added help in key positions.

The Panthers are a talented team, on a hot streak.
I think they could have beat anyone today.

The Bucs had their opportunities and blew it. FGs should have been TDs and Glennon fumbling the ball deep in Panther territory was pivotal. Bottom line, until the Bucs get over the hump in the NFC South, they won’t be playoff contenders.
