“More Physical” Game Plan Today

December 1st, 2013

The Bucs slapped on the pads and spent extra time this week, physical time, working on the finer points of the rushing attack after having an off day on the ground in Detroit.

Davin Joseph said Friday that the punch-them-in-the-mouth direction will extend to today.

“The coaches really are trying to narrow the game plan down a little bit, trying to be a little bit more physical in the game plan, allowing the run game to really expand but also, you know, having Mike [Glennon] do his thing,” Joseph said in a Buccaneers.com video. “He’s been playing at a very high level. I think his great play is kind of getting covered up by the success in the run game.”

One thing about the Bucs trying to dominate on the ground today, please don’t hang it all on Bobby Rainey. Joe was appalled last Sunday that the New Schiano Order went all “bellcow” with Rainey and left Brian Leonard on the bench when Rainey was unsuccessful with 18 carries for 35 yards.

Leonard has shown he’s a more powerful runner and he’s got diverse skills and can be an effective change of pace. If Rainey isn’t thriving today, then Joe would like to see Leonard get some early looks. It can’t hurt. And it’s not like Rainey is Doug Martin or Adrian Peterson.

    It’s also not like the oline deserved to get paid last week. They were demolished. I wonder why that local radio host “as far as that’s concerned” didn’t tell us why Rainey didn’t run well since he believes in previous weeks the oline played terrible and Rainey lit it up in spite of their play.
    I hope the oline shows up this week because a repeat of Detroit is going to get real ugly in Charlotte.
    Go Bucs

    Aiming to rush for 55 yards this week! GRRR…!

    I hate to sound like a broken record, but try throwing some passes to the backs; word is, they are eligible receivers.

    @Joe

    I agree on the change up by putting in Leonard. Heck, I say change it up. Keep rotating them out. It will keep them fresh. If one of them gets on a hot streak, let them stay in.

    GO BUCS!
